    A few years ago, a Japanese company released a virtual, hologram girl who can act like your girlfriend. I showed Japanese people their promotion videos and asked for their views.

    I tend to think the percentage of hardcore otaku is about the same, and rather niche, in any given population in the developed world. Though maybe a bit higher than average in Japan, particularly when it comes to a focus on manga/anime related fandoms. The only reason it may seem more popular with those outside of Japan is that you are combining them all under the umbrella of "foreigners" here and the US alone has around 2 1/2 times the population of Japan and thus likely over double the number of otaku, even before considering the rest of the world outside of Japan who are being lumped in with us.

And if you are together all the time with only one other person people will just assume that you're in a relationship. Especially if you're of the opposite gender. Therefore a group of 3 people is pretty much perfect. Though, I don't mind a 4th person either. 5 is a bit too big imo

    Anime or not, it's hologram, a cool piece of tech/toy. Kinda like those Google Home or whatever similar products. I doubt the guys weren't interested. They said they don't "need" it, doesn't mean they don't "want" it, especially if it was 99% cheaper. At that price? Most people would say no.
    Also, the guys will say no because you're filming and presenting it as a replacement of actual girlfriends. Like saying loners/otakus/losers who can't get girlfriends will want one.

    Yuta, you weren't being honest here. You did not tell them the real reason why this story became so famous abroad, and why people were talking about it. It had nothing to do with the popularity of the character, the popularity of anime abroad, or interest in AI technology, as the people here seem to think, and you encouraged them to believe. The truth is that the story took off because there was a man who wanted to MARRY the character - not just ask it to turn off the lights, not have fun with AI technology, but actually have a *romantic relationship* with a hologram. This is about a man who was so badly socialized and so traumatized by the idea of real-life relationship with a woman that he took refuge in fantasy. THAT is the reason people paid attention, and if you had shown them the story that was in the Japan Times or shown them the interview with that man, they would have had VERY different reactions.
    Come on. You can do MUCH better than this. This was very dishonest.

    I just thought of this while watching the video because one of the girl said there isn't much anime outside of Japan, but I think it would be interesting to see what japanese people think about anime outside Japan, as on, that we have to pirate most of it because it just won't come to foreign countries (Specially before), if they think that more anime should come here, as well as if they think we lose part of the background and meaning on stuff like jokes, because it's lost after translation etc.

    That one guy said that it was Japan against the world, or the like, but I have to disagree. Japan isn't fighting the world, Japan is part of the world. If anything the fact that Japan is so closed off compared to a lot of the rest of the world is a good thing for cultural preservation. We'll never be able to experience life under the Shogunate, but Japan still has it's cultural identity. You have cultural events constantly, even at schools. I can't speak for the rest of the world, but my school never had cultural festivals and neither does my town. We have the prerequisite holiday stuff, and a few celebrations of some european cultures, but nothing about the culture of my town,state, or even country.
    And Japan isn't weird or strange, it's just unique to the people who live there. The first time you experience culture show from a foreign advertisement or something you're bound to have a reaction. That's normal. However, by the 9th time you see that ad the culture shock is gone and you just see an advertisement for shampoo or whatever. That's not weird at all. It's just dripping with the distinct essence of the people it's meant to market to. (inb4 anybody calls me a weeb: 1. No. 2. I can recognize a lot of problems that Japan has, I just choose to not focus on them so I can enjoy the good of Japan without being hindered. 3. I'm just passionate about my interests.)

    I find weird what a boy said that all "world" against Japan? And there are Japanese and "foreigners"? And where the people "comperatively" talking LESS each other then "foreigners" have no interest to have an AI-"friend"? They are living in another world - far, far away....

      I honestly don't get how this is creepy towards a hologram, especially with how teen nostalgic a lot of Japanese working people are.

      @@Sammie_Sorrelly there's so much control you can have over fictional characters that I can make an adult looking character and say that she is 8 years old.
      That's how little it matters. They don't have rights. Or lives. Everything about them is malable. So why give a crap?

    • @Sammie_Sorrelly
      @Sammie_Sorrelly Před 5 lety +1

      @@LoliconSamalik Of course you can say anything about your character. The classic anime/manga trope is "Yes she's designed to look 8 years old but she's actually a hundred year old vampire/robot/ghost whatever so what you're about to see isn't *technically* cartoon child porn". Because characters don't just have written descriptions, they are designed also. A character like Miku is not only stated, but also *designed* to be a 16 year old. A kid. So yeah an adult who wants to have a romantic relationship with Miku is a creep as far as I'm concerned.

    If I could change it to a male anime characters and it wasn't so damn expensive. I would buy it cause it can control the thermostat, lights, and other stuff. I don't even need a hologram just the voice.
