  • This is my look back at Yamaha's excellent 1995 YZ250 motocrosser. This was the last year for this YZ250 design and a fitting sendoff for one of the more successful machines of the early 1990s.

    I remember this bike being the best of '95. The '93/'94 had proven to be very formidable. Thanks Again!

    I had a 1994 250. My son was just turning 14, riding 80 intermediate. One day at a Oatfield/GFI race I just put him on it. Zero hours practice and he smoked the 250 beginner class. I think he used 2nd gear all the way around..,. In 2000

    I was hoping you would do a video of the 1985 Kawasaki KX lineup. I used to own a 1985 KX 125 "Works Replica" I believe that year Dirt Bike Magazine highly regarded this machine. Thanks as always for all these great videos. The look back of the 80's and 90's bikes bring back so many fun memories of riding dirt bikes back then.

    I have a 1995 YZ250 with the aftermarket titanium sub frame. What I found to help dramatically reduce the difficulty shifting was to use one full quart of 90 gear oil instead of the 750cc it recommends.

    My uncle had this bike when i was 14. I had an xr100 at the time. He let me ride it, my first 250 ride.
    I really really liked it. It just did what i thought it would.
    And compared to my xr100 it was worlds better.

      @@mrmoparrr Currently set up with a Boyesen rad valve, Keihin pwk38 airstriker, and 93 octane. At 800' in a temperate climate I run the stock 7.0 cutaway slide, 168 main, 42 pilot, Suzuki necj needle at the top clip. Airscrew at 1.5 turns out, mixing 50:1 interceptor but will be changing to 40:1 and a different oil because I don't like how little film the Amsoil leaves.

    so glad i found this youtube channel, well made videos! I come from snowcross and its crazy how much AHEAD motocross bikes were in 95. For snowmobiles, they were still made to only sit down in 95 and chassis was not at all similar to today. Meanwhile motocross bikes in 95 are not too different from today, probably the weight is a lot lower today im guessing? And power could be slightly higher today too I guess!

      Yamah never sold a “ factory model” but they did sell an accessory graphics kit through dealers that made the bike look like the works Yamaha’s that year. I’m sure yours just has that YZR appearance package on it.

      @@TheMotocrossVault I have the 1994 yz250 with the long rod. I keep hearing that it is the holeshot king but can't find much info on it beyond that. In drags against a 2001 CR250 I would always have him through 4th, then he would pull away in 5th gear. Its a ripper.

    I have a 1994 YZ250 and the previous owner modified the motor with the long rod and cylinder of a 1989. I wonder if it's better or should I change it for the OEM '94 cylinder? Must have some reason he used the '89 cylinder I think?

    • @TheMotocrossVault
      @TheMotocrossVault  Před 3 lety +1

      The long-rod upgrade was a popular modification at the time and many teams including Factory Yamaha ran them. I would not change it back unless you have a failure and can't get replacement parts

      @@TheMotocrossVault Thanks for your reply. I don't have any problems, the engine runs fantastic and very strong. I only wonder that it has a '89 cylinder and not the 94 with a spacer. But I will go on with the current setup and keep it as it runs perfect. Or does the 94 cylinder with a spacer run even better?
