- Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with Daughter of Screen Legend Errol Flynn, Rory Flynn, Author “The Baron of Mulholland: A Daughter Remembers Errol Flynn”
About Harvey's guest:
Today’s guest is the daughter of one of the greatest screen actors of all time: Errol Flynn.
In legendary films like “The Adventures of Robin Hood”, “Captain Blood”, “The Charge of the Light Brigade”, “The Dawn Patrol”, and “The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex”, Errol Flynn has dazzled and mesmerized movie audiences for decades. In fact, many film lovers believe that he was the ultimate cinema hero whose combination of charm, daring and good looks, has never been equalled, even to this day.
Although much has been said, and written about this iconic star, both on and off screen, there is currently no one who knew him better. She’s dedicated much of her life to researching his career and preserving his legacy.
In 2006 she published a beautiful book entitled, “The Baron of Mulholland: A Daughter Remembers Errol Flynn”. And she’s a highly accomplished photographer who’s worked on dozens of films including “The Return of the Living Dead”, “Lambada”, and “Fatherland”.

Thank you, Rory! Your dad would be extremely proud. God bless you.
Ms Flynn doesn’t read the comments on our CZcams page. But I will convey your kind comments to her. Thank you so much for watching our show. ❤️
Loved Errol Flynn movies growing up! His beautiful daughter is delightful!!
Thank you so much for watching our show!
What an amazing interview! I truly enjoyed it. Errol Flynn has long been my favorite actor of the silver screen. He had the ability to charm and mesmerize audiences like no one else. Many thanks to Rory Flynn for her willingness to talk about her famous father and help us get to know him better!
Many thanks to you for watching!
This exclusive interview with Rory Flynn, daughter of one of the most beloved male cinematic legends, Errol Flynn, is among the most popular episodes of our show. It's always fascinating to learn about an iconic star from the perspective of the star's close family member, and I've been very fortunate to have had the opportunity to interview the children and relatives of many great stars including Joan Crawford Hedy Lamarr, Dean Martin, Lucille Ball, Boris Karloff, Don DeFore, Don Knotts, Tim Conway and many others. It's a great honor to be entrusted with this privilege by people who have dedicated their lives to honoring and preserving the memories and legacies of their famous parent/grandparent/relative. I hope you enjoy this interview and all our interviews. I put my heart and soul into every episode of our show, and I hope it shows.
Fabulous interview. Loved errol flynn.
@user-ye5hg2ri1t I’m so glad you enjoyed it. Please spread the word about our show!
As I said above, lovely lady!
G'day, i'm 71 an aussie woman & watched errol flynn movies growing up. He was handsome & alluring for me as a teenage girl. An aussie band, had a hit record in the 70's about Errol, singing oh errol how i wish that i could be like him. It's on my play list, he is gone but not forgotten.❤
Thank you for watching our show.
Being British and having watched Errol Flynn films as a child, I was captivated, especially by his portrayal of Robin Hood, afterward, we would go into the woods and re-enact his adventures, complete with homemade bows and arrows. I was aged 17 when he died and when in 1960 they serialised 'My Wicked Wicked Ways'' in the now defunct ''News of the World.'' my dad and me would rush to the door to be the first to get the paper. I subsequently bought the book and now own a first-edition copy. It is a book I have read and re-read dozens and dozens of times over the years and one I never tire of. A man amongst men, not a plastic tough guy requiring bodyguards but a genuine tough guy who lived a full, adventurous, and memorable life. There will never, ever, be another.
Thank you so much for sharing your story, and for taking the time to watch this very special episode of our show. ❤️
For my 50 th birthday, my daughter and wife had drinks at the hotel where Errol died. A gorgeous eclectic hotel in Vancouver Canada. As soon as we went there, something clicked about this location. Errol was an incredible person…..there will never be another Errol Flynn.
So true. Thank you so much for watching.
I love that part where she talks about him swimming with Nora on his back. This was so lovely - just loved hearing her talk about all of her memories, and that she's devoted to keeping his legacy alive. You're such a good and compassionate listener too, Harvey! Subscribed!
Thank you so much for your support for our show!! Greatly appreciated! Please spread the word!!🙏❤️
I'm still trying to finish his Autobiography and I knew his daughter was going to mention that he was abandoned by his own mother. You never get over your young life when something tragic happens to you. What a shame after his amazing movies that he was never recognized. What a disgrace. He should get an award now even though he's past/
I agree
Thank you Rory and Harvey for the wonderful insight into Errol Flynn, one of the most iconic screen legends of Hollywood! ❤
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed this very special episode of our show. Thank you for watching!🙏❤️
Harvey Brownstone, You conduct your interviews with respect and you're thorough. Thank you for informing Errol Flynn's daughter that (my favorite actress, in her later years) complimented Errol Flynn's work on Elizabeth and Essex. It looks as if it made her feel good to hear this compliment from the greatest actress of the twentieth century. Happy New Year!
Thank you so much for your very kind comments about my interviewing style. Greatly appreciated!
I know Rory won't read this, but Rory, my heart goes out to you. I've been a massive fan of Errol's all my life (67 years). I was fortunate enough to find a copy of your mom's book at a flea market a while back and plan on reading it this summer. Once that happens, The Baron of Mullholland is next. As obscene as the Academy's neglect of Errol is, take comfort in knowing there will always be legions of fans who enjoy and respect your father's work.
What a lovely message! Thank you!!
I met Errol Flynn's widow Patrice in Jamaica 1986. Said he was cool.
@marknewton6984 that’s an understatement
Thank you for this interview, she looks so much like him - chin, smile/teeth, even her nose looks somewhat like his. I look forward to reading Rory Flynn's book. Thank you also for including The Dawn Patrol in the opening 5 - he and Basil Rathbone were so great in that film!
I’m so happy you enjoyed our show! Thank you so much for watching
Another great interview Harvey! But I'm so saddened to hear that Errol Flynn's reputation has been tarnished. I didn't realize. If you or Rory have a suggestion on what we can do to help fix that (and see he gets the honors he deserves), let us know. Thank you again!
Thank you so much for watching our show!
Harvey, most of us Aussies NEVER believed the BS about fascism and Nazism in relation to Errol. As a performer and teacher of performing arts myself, I've always admired and loved his talent. He definitely died waaaay too young, and yes, he was a very naughty boy at times, but he also had heart. How do I know he was a bit naughty? My sister was in school in Switzerland many years ago and spent a bit of time with friends of David Niven. David was always happy to share stories of his adventures/fun with Errol. I will be in Tasmania in a couple of months, so if you can tell me which museum has Errol's mementoes, I'll visit if I can and try to get some pics. Not sure if you'll be talking to Rory again, but I relate very much to her experience of losing her dad so young. I lost my father about 3 weeks before my 6th birthday, and it's a hole that never fills - you keep missing them. Apropos Sean - so sad, and my deep wish for Rory is that he can be found and returned someday... Thank you again for a wonderful interview! Hugs from downunder.
Thank you so much Sue for watching this exclusive interview with Rory Flynn. I’m not familiar with the museum in Tasmania that houses Errol Flynn’s mementos. I’m sure you can get that info by googling it. Wishing you a great trip to Tasmania!
@@harveybrownstoneinterviews8980 That's my next port of call! :)
I hope you find the museum where his artifacts are.
@@harveybrownstoneinterviews8980 It's in Hobart, but unfortunately I'll be up north and that's down south - but I know for next time.
Exceptional interview. Rory is so articulate.
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed this very special episode of our show. Thank you for watching.
Great interview! I love Errol Flynn. I'm a big movie buff and have many of his movies.
Thanks for watching!
Errol Flynn was all the hero's of the world in one magnificent package.. Hollywood could take a lesson.
Hollywood doesn’t take lessons I’m afraid. Errol has never received the recognition he deserved from Hollywood.
@Harvey, Many thanks for your thoughtful note. Indeed, Hollywood never gave the credit Errol deserved. I worked in Hollywood for several years, and then took my film scripts to London, where I work now. Still, Errol's films are delighting people of all ages. A million best wishes.
@BeauDare-ov7py and I’m sending you a million best wishes too! Congratulations on all your success in the UK.
@Harvey, Many thanks for your kind words. Keep up your good work. You have a special gift.
@BeauDare-ov7py thank you so very much. I hope our audience can continue to grow. With the kind and loyal support of viewers like you, I believe we can make it to the top!
Rory is such a nice lady ,The interview was a great incite in Erroll Flynn's persona ,I read his book wicked ways when I was 19 ,thought it amazing, also David Niven's autobiography, my Father was a Taxi driver in Belfast in the 40s up to 1952 he would often tell us he drove Old professor Flynn up to Queens University where he lectured, Thanks for the documentary ,was great 👍 ❤
So glad you enjoyed this very special episode of our show
Such a nice interview and very enjoyable. I think there would be a great interest in a reprint of the book. Wish I knew how to get one. Saw a couple on ebay but would love to buy one directly from Ms. Flynn. Thank you Mr. Brownstone for another wonderful interview.
Thank you so much for your very kind comment, and for your support of our show. It means the world to me.
Great interview! Thanks Harvey! I'm now a subscriber.
I’m thrilled to have you as a subscriber! Thank you so much!
How Fantastic! I love him and his daughter
Thank you so much for watching our show!
I enjoyed mr.Flynn’s autobiography and his novel. I would love to read Rory’s book.
I have read Rory’s book and it’s wonderful. The tribute to her brother Sean is very moving.
It was quite interesting to get a glimpse into the life of my favourite silver screen Robin Hood.
Thanks.
So glad you got around to seeing this very special rare exclusive interview. Thank you for watching.
@@harveybrownstoneinterviews8980 Thank YOU.
So Sorry for Errol Flynn's daughter Rory to still be searching for her beloved brother Sean's remains, 🙏🙏🙏 1 day those US military & other reporters that were w/ him on day he died cn provider her w/ answers, location, peace & return of his remains to lie nxt 2 his mother!
I sure hope so
Sean Flynn was at Duke University in Sept. 1960. Matriculated I think. In the enormous cafeteria a whisper went zipping around and we all stretched to see this young man. Years on we found that he felt pulled to the war zone as a photographer in a time when war journalism was a martial art.
@rosalindmartin4469 very interesting.
I grew up in the 60s/70s....used to watch "Bill Kennedy at the movies" on WKBD 50 in Detroit with my dad....Bill played all the old movies....loved the Errol Flynn movies.❤
I loved him too
Fantastic interview
Thank you so much
lovely, lovely lady! So relatable. Never believed that story about her Dad and the N...'s, word. (Leave it at that! ) Xx
So glad you enjoyed this very special episode of our show!
Rory was a wild child at the Whiskey a Go Go. Wonder if she hooked up with Jim Morrison?
She will never tell.
Very enlightening interview. Thanks to both of you. No question, Errol Flynn has a big place in a lot of viewers' lists of favorite actors. Like many, I wished he had lived a lot longer, and had that time with his family. I never pass up a Flynn movie, and just so happens that TCM is running a series of them on August 5 & 6. "Rocky Mountain" is on now, it's 2 a.m., and this is the fifth of the movies I've watched, so far. I'm 76, so I've been a fan for many years. There's only one Errol Flynn.
Thank you so much for watching this very special episode of our show. 🙏❤️
What a lovely woman.
Yes she’s wonderful
Rory is absolutely right! My Wicked, Wicked Ways is the BEST autobiography I personally have ever read! So funny! So much incredible adventure...but to tell you the truth, it's probably true. Always loved Errol Flynn from the first film I watched.
Thank you so much for watching our show.
Robin Hood my ALL TIME FAVORITE!
Mine too, but it's a close call with some of his others!
Mine too
Errol Flynn just had pure natural animal magnetism!❤❤❤😎🍸
He sure did.
Thank you so very much for interviewing Rory. It is so sad that the Academy does not honor Errol Flynn. I wish there was a way his fans, friends and family could sign a petition to get them to honor him.
Me too but it will never happen. We’re living in a very unforgiving world. Just ask Kevin Spacey, someone who’s work was first class. We discussed the unforgiving nature of Hollywood in my interview with Antonio Sabato Jr. I hope you will watch it
I really enjoyed Errol Flynn movies. Great casting, great storylines, great acting, great costumes/scenery, and great film scores.
And Rory looks lovely.😊
Errol was an accomplished actor. I’ve always thought he felt frustrated with being typecasted, and became disillusioned with Hollywood.
He seamed to be happy most when he was at sea.
I think he was probably happy to be a star but not happy with some of the roles he got.
fantastic interview . I hope Rory finds her brother's remain s someday .
I hope so too
Dick Haymes "To Each His Own" was my parents wedding song!
That’s lovely
David Niven's 2 books are really great reads. "The Moon is a balloon" has some brilliant Errol Flynn stories in it.
Yes I enjoyed both books.
@@harveybrownstoneinterviews8980 That's good to hear.
Labelled Hedda and Louella wrong. Great interview though. Ricky Nelson lived in the Mulholland estate before they torn it all down. If you question his acting - see "The Sun Also Rises" and no one comes close to his portrayal of Robin Hood. Even though Jack Barrymore was a close friend it's really hard to watch him play Barrymore in "Too Much, Too Soon".
Thanks so much for watching
Well done and thanks, what a lovely lady. BTW Of course Joan Crawfords coffee has hints of nuts, she loved them!
I hope you will also try the Harvey Brownstone Talk Show Blend coffee from www.Hollywoodblends.com. It’s fabulous!!
Big Fan of Errol Flynn movies 🎬..
What did you think of the interview?
@@harveybrownstoneinterviews8980 Great 👍
Thank you so much!! I’m so happy you enjoyed it!!
Love Errol Flynn's films. I wish he had got better press and his real character had a chance to see the light.
So well said. Thank you for watching our show.
Errol Flynn gone at age 50! WAY to Soon & way to young!
So true
I seen a picture of Sean...he looked like his father.
He was incredibly handsome
One of the first Aussies to make it in Hollywood
Yes that’s correct.
My 4th cousin. Nora Eddington was on my paternal grandmother's side
WOW that’s so cool!
Thanks so much rory, i have all the films he made ,on vhs dvd ,ihave robin hood full length in technicolor on super 8,and all the books about Errol flynn, except Charles highams book ,i burned it ,there is agreat book called the spy who never was ,defending your dad, ihave t shirts with Errol flynn on ,a silver coin ,soundtrack from his movies. My son loves Errol flynn as well 😊😊😊😊😊❤❤😂
I hope Rory sees your comment. It’s lovely
@@harveybrownstoneinterviews8980 thanks for your kind feedback ps I am a member of the Errol flynn Société based in england
Ps i am also a member of the Errol flynn soicity based in england
He was a shooting star.....they burn bright....but burn out fast.🌠
So true
I am obsessed with these wonderful videos, always such interesting and beautiful people you interview. Since tab hunter is no longer with us, I would love an interview with his husband, that would be a great episode.
If you have a way to reach out to him please let us know. Thanks so much for your support of our show
@@harveybrownstoneinterviews8980 Unfortunately do not know him personally. But that was just a suggestion. Thanks y'all for getting back ❤️
@finderkeeperrrs thanks so much for your support of our show. Greatly appreciated.
I know Errol Flynn was in a different era,but Flynn could have played James Bond very well,he was cool, great voice, and good looks plus a way with the opposite sex on film. You could see this in the boxing bio “Gentleman Jim”.A real womaniser for the younger girls that got him in trouble. His films are LEGENDARY and top actor in the 1940s.
Errol had the charm and slick performances meeting people. But he had something special on screen.A Hollywood Legend no doubt.
Yes indeed, he exemplified sex appeal.
Is this the same interview that you did before with Rory? 😊
Yes. Remastered
Errol Flynn had no equal Rory He was a strong man and this brings envious lesser men to spread lies via gossip because they were and still are intimidated by him
Wicked wicked ways is in my library .....finest book that I have ever read
They died with their boots on is my favorite film
I am 78 yrs old twice divorced and I only miss my German Shepherd Dog who passed away
I drink to you and your Dad
I’m so sorry for the loss of your beautiful dog. Losing a beloved pet is so hard. Glad you enjoyed this interview.
Thank you. By the way, I remember reading that his best friend was Jewish. They went to Spain to help the Lincoln Brigade. That is not what a fascist does. I knew none of that horrible book was right.
Thank you so much for watching this very special episode of our show, and for your important comment.
There was no basis to Higham's assertion, other than that Flynn had friends or acquaintances with NS views!! Utterly ridiculous - he was obviously trying to make a lot of money writing such drivel. That it was published at all was a travesty.
Francis the Talking Mule was produced by Universal, not Warner Brothers. As far as acting went, take a look at The Sun also Rises.
Thanks for the clarification.
David Niven was not in My Man Godfrey - that was William Powell.
There was a 1957 film by that name starring David Niven.
@@harveybrownstoneinterviews8980Thanks for the correction- I guess my mind blocked out the remake!
@susanrg I don’t blame you for blocking it out. It wasn’t very good in my opinion
Errol Flynn was the best actor of his generation.
Absolutely true
Flynn was dynamic, exciting and very charismatic and but Cagney, Bogart, Robinson, and Tracy were all much better actors. Pretty boys are NEVER the best actors because they don``t have to be, to be successful.
@spockboy interesting perspective. But I disagree. Brando was the ultimate pretty boy, but he was the ultimate actor. Same with James Dean, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp and others
@@harveybrownstoneinterviews8980 I take your point with Brando, but your credibility is lost if you include Dean, Pitt and Depp in the same category.
@spockboy oh well, I can live with diminished credibility. It got me this far
Sorry but the names of the 2 gossip columnists were switched around.
I apologize about that
May someone have offered God a Divine Mercy chaplet for Errol Flynn in the hour of his death. R I P Errol Flynn
WOW what a kind sentiment
The Academy is a bunch of hypocrites, y'know. They do a lot worse than Errol ever thought of doing. I very rarely watch a new film these days. Much rather watch the old films. Flynn and James Cagney are my ultimate favorite screen actors of all time, nobody since can come close, imho.
What did you think of the interview?
@@harveybrownstoneinterviews8980 Great! I like you, you let folks talk. I get real tired of interviews where you can tell it's all about the interviewer instead of the interviewee. I like Rory too, she is a great interviewee. I'm glad she loved her daddy so much, you hear all the time about actors and actresses kids who hate them even when they don't have much reason to be that way. She reminds me of me, actually. My daddy wasn't famous like her daddy, but he did live big and was a larger than life figure. I miss my daddy too. I've also lost a brother to violence. And Rory is the same age as my own mama, lol! Great interview, again, and subscribed! 😁❤️
@ChristChickAutistic thank you so much for your very kind comments about my interviewing style. I really appreciate it. I hope you’ll spread the word about our show. 🙏❤️
Wonderful interview, Harvey! You are so kind and respectful to your guests...while still asking insightful (and at times, hard) questions. I'm new to your interviews. I saw the one with Gary Lewis recently. I'll hit the subscribe as soon as I finish my comment I totally agree with you....Ms. Flynn should definitely re-publish her book. There are many in younger generations that know about Errol Flynn (thru TCM, etc.) With the right PR, I think it would do well. Just horrific how Hollywood has snubbed him. "Robin Hood," "Captain Blood", "They Died With Their Boots On", "Santa Fe Trail", "Gentleman Jim"....just to mention 5 outstanding, completely entertaining films I can watch whenever they play. Films that wouldn't have had near the pizazz without his bigger-than-life presence. The academy disowns him?!?! All over a fraudulent book. So shameful! I'm a baby of the 60s. I came to know of Errol Flynn from watching movies on TV. In my opinion, he was the Baron Of Hero Leading Men! Thank you Ms. Flynn, for giving the insights only you could give. The Hollywood elite may want Errol Flynn forgotten, but there are too many of us (probably more than we know...with younger generations) that will never, ever let that happen.
Thank you so much for discovering our show and for posting such a beautiful comment. I hope you’ll check out more of our great interviews!! Thank you for your support for our show.
@@harveybrownstoneinterviews8980 You're welcome. Thanks for giving us things we want to check out! 🙂👍👍
I just found out recently that she is a neighbor to my parents
Please give her my warmest regards.
Have you tried a psychic to look for your brother ?
Rory has consulted many psychics. They’ve all said her brother is dead.
He was a predator.
Well….yes….and yet, his enduring popularity as a movie star seems to be unaffected by his off-screen behavior.
I was looking for this comment. That man was a terrible person and it needs to be said.
I understand and appreciate your point of view. And yet, he’s still beloved by millions of movie fans. If he were alive today he’d be a pariah.
Im a Rory named after Rory Calhoun Middle name Don after Don Ameche , great interview
Thanks so much for watching!
