It’s so refreshing to see a world class instructor recommending simplistic reliability instead of high dollar items from companies they have connections with. May God bless our Republic.
Lots of people skimping on the Chinese Handheld lights, they dominate the light category. They even can survive SCAR recoil in my experience. Only con is not Surefire tail combability and usually stuck with some crappy pressure pad but some of them have unconventional designs where you can lock and unlock a light in one swift motion which apparently larpers really want these days.
The Republic has fallen ...
@@ShaneBraaten well help to get it back then
Remember Katrina, Reed was there going door to door confiscating guns with the military and police.
@@georgeburns6748 if you only knew buddy...
It's nice to hear someone say "you don't have to spend $500 on a flashlight". So many on youtube like to show off their mega-dollar rigs that no one else can afford. My tool works just fine the way it is. Haven't mounted a light yet, but I will eventually.
I like my $300 Surefire, but my financial situation has changed since I bought it, so buying another one now is no Bueno for me. Given the G2X is from the same company, I'm sure it's an excellent choice for the price point. I've also had good luck with Streamlight as well. While I've seen folks, including Iraqveteran8888, say good things, overall, about Olight, I have not personally used their products enough to recommend them.
All that is to say there's some features on the more expensive lights that are nice to have like IR mode if you have, or plan to get night vision, but if you don't, those expensive options are most definitely not a necessity.
Amen
You don't have to spend a lot but you definitely need a weapon light
If you plan on using your rifle for home defense, a weapon light is priority alongside a sling. It'll keep the rifle to your body, therefore making it much harder for an attacker to get ahold of it.
I have the same setup but I use Streamlight Pro Tac and the Streamlight HLX. I won't buy Surefire products because they donated $10,000 to Senator Dianne Feinstein's political campaign. I asked Surefire for stickers and swag to give out at my 2nd Amendment advocacy workshop and was told they didn't have money in their budget to give out stickers. When I approached Streamlight they gave me flashlights to raffle off to raise money for food and ammo for our events.
Yep. Rail-Mounted Pro Tacs on all my Modern sporting rifles. I started with the (non-mounted) big mag-type Streamlight SL-20’s in 1995, and have a variety now, all getting smaller and brighter as they evolve. Always my go-to light company.
You think with a net worth in excess of 200 million DiFi would need no help! Must have been a definite write off for SF?
I had no idea. I'll stick with Streamlight, then.
Simple and effective! I like it!
I love how Reid always comes from a simple and effective point of view. There's no need for all that extra crap
I think his recommendations certainly are great and cost effective, but if someone does have the $, why not get more lumens? Lumen facts don't care about our feelings.
@@musicman1eanda not everyone wants or needs the most lumens did you think of that?
The point was, differentiating between "wants" and "needs". The point of the video was that you don't need to spend hundreds of dollars to get good lighting on your firearm. That's it, nothing else. He didn't say you shouldn't get the more expensive rig. If you want more lumens, by all means get them.
Today it's candela. The ability to push through other lights, see through tint etc. Basically throw vs bright.
@@thatfast3002 I did, that's why I said his recommendations are great and cost effective, which is another way of saying could work for a lot of people.
I love the little jabs in your video. It’s always important to note that during a hard time, to be reminded that America will in fact be Built. Back. Better.
I also appreciate you sharing your kit.
Keeping it reasonable, effective, and affordable.
I run that light with a Magpul mount. Crazy how expensive things have become. I have about $90.00 in both. The G2 in aluminum was $90.00 back when the polymer G2 was $55.00.
THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO! Finally, somebody talking sense in 2024.
Thanks glad to see you are back putting out good videos! You don't have to make long drawn out ones brother, we appreciate these short quick knowledgeable talks from you. Don't forget, we always enjoy hearing your wisdom on the constitution. I, believe in the fall you could host a constitutional study for a day or two and you could give your body a break from the beating it takes on the range, at the same time make a couple of bucks, but more importantly, TEACH OUR CONSTITUTION to many of us who NEED IT!! Keep walking with our KING!
Thanks for sharing your experience, Reid.
Love your content and message Reid! Thanks for all you do!
Primary arms has them on sale for $55 tactical single output version 🔥
I learned from Mr H- Rifle, Sling, Iron Sights and Optic, Mounted white light, then Training. Thank you, once again.
Got to love cost effective advice! Thanks Reid.
"Build back better"🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Reid Henrichs for Sec of Defense!!🙏
My first light was a bright 300 lumen handheld from TSC, it cost $6. I rattle-canned it from hot pink to OD and zip tied it at 10'o clock to my cheese grater hand rail. Good out to 50 yards, ok to 100 yards at night with an optic.
I now have an OKW on my setup and it shines out to 400 meters.
100%/AMEN! Same approach for years....controllable, reliable, affordable. Well done.
I got a surefire scout back in 2018 for about $250. Put it on a Haley mount on my AK and it’s been running great. Can’t complain! The same light now runs nearly $400. Yay for build back better!
The cost of doing business in Pennsylvania doesn’t help.
did you get the vampire?
Thank for great videos, Reid.
Reid, you JUST sold or rather convinced me to buy 2 of each. Thanks for the $ saving info. Rock in Brother and HYDRATE HYDRATE HYDRATE!!!! You look red 😊. Hot summer guys and this heat can hurt you. Be careful out there
Reid, I hope you offer more classes next year. I truly enjoyed my visits to Valor Ridge. Keep fighting the good fight.
I love what you stand for Reid. Im looking forward to building back better with you.
Great video. Basics and simplicity are always best
I love that you always side with training and proficiency over the "high speed" gear, great info as always man!
I am so glad you posted this video I was going to buy a couple lights but had not decided on a certain one. Will be ordering the light and mount you recommended. Thank you!
thank you Reid. Looking forward to getting back to the ridge in '24.
thank you for your great insights
That's some really good information on light mounts. Thanks!👍
Fantastic information! I love how you keep the main thing the main thing
I agree 100%
Reid has a great way of explaining his gear, training choices. I set up my rifle with irons and white light in 2008. Haven't needed to change it yet
LOVE the budget solutions. THANK YOU!
I spent about $40 on one from amazon and its a complete surefire knockoff, its lasted a long time and is surefire compatible.
I recommend it, its just a light guys.
Light is only for identification and acquisition. It's not that complex.
Thanks for the links. I will get that light and mount.
thank you, i've been wondering about your setup for quite some time
Thank you Reid. Stay safe brother.
If you're really on a tight budget tractor supply sells one believe it or not. Comes with the picatinny mount, tail and pressure pad switch and rechargeable battery for just about thirty bucks.
It's a little big and heavy but works and throws a lot of light down range. If you install the pressure pad you can hit the full time on or momentarily on part of the pad, both are same brightness.
And when you eventually get a better lighter one you can just put the tail switch back on and now use it as a regular flashlight.
I bought this because I needed one in pinch and fast three years ago and just haven't gotten to replacing it yet.
Heat is killing me, too, Reid! But I appreciate the advice for the picatinny on the vent hole. My backup rifle would be perfect with that.
Love the Surefire G2X LE light. Own a few and they have yet to let me down!
Thank you again brother for genuine real-world practical information. I use the Streamlight Polytac, which in quality and function is almost exactly like the Surefire G2x. There's everything to be said for simple quality
My training rifle I just built has a skinny CAR-15 handguard because I like the size and I added a rail on the FSP left side so I can add a ring mount for a light. Works very well
Awesome video, straight to the point no bs and reminding people to get wat works not bling bling,, keep up the good work 💪💪👍👍
Well done sir as always!
Damn....Its nice to see good honest advice. Its good to see iron sights on a rifle that are zeroed too.
Great practical advice. Thank you.
Thank you Red!
Would you be willing to put together a video on the ins/outs of light placement?
Thank you for all you do!
Mr. Reid thank you for everything you provide in knowledge and experience to people including myself how simple the solution is and showing you care to do this out of your time. Thank you so much and thank you for your service. Long time follower of your channel.
Mr.T
What separates this channel from the countless of others out there is the info given is no nonsense and practical. Some channels, not all are so about making everything flashy and look overly dynamic as if it's better somehow. Reid delivers simple, reliable, effective techniques and info that is useable today not after you spend $4k buying quasi gear and 6months training to understand military code words. Great channel.
Perfect. I have been looking for a light to put on my home defense tool. So many options I get confused. If you recommend it, I'll grab it. Was looking to spend less than 150. Perfect. Thanks Reid! You're the best!
Reid what ever you been doing with all your training it's working because your looking all jacked up and pumped my man, keep doing what your doing buddy it's working.
I Have a couple of those Viking tactical light mounts. They’re on my older 20” A4’s because I put them on there 15 years ago. They work well with my old Surefire lights. Passed those rifles down to my sons..
My favorite light set-up currently is the streamlight TLR RM1 or RM2. About $135 and comes with a tape switch. I really like the built in angled switch and that it mounts directly to 1913 and stays pretty low with no additional mount needed👍
I've had a Farmsoldier M300A on my setup for a few years now. Single function, built in low profile picatinny mount, and comes with a decent tape switch. $40. Just bought a second one a few ago.
Heavenly Father, I pray thou turn thy eye to good men fighting evil.
Amen.
Amen.
Amen.
Si, great content as always!
Tier One Citizen two-point sling FTW! Rachel is a solid instructor and well-rounded human being.
I carry the g2x dual output and have a couple single output on rifles. I like it. Just as well in most set ups as the scout lights.
Glad I found this channel!
I believe you had the same type of video years ago, must have lol.
I run the same light on all my rifles along with the KZ weapon light mount which I think was a recommendation of your at some point too. It has been a great economical way of putting a quality white light on all my rifles.
A long time ago, when I had my first AR-15 and didn't know much, I took a cheap Amazon light and wrapped it with paracord on my plastic handguard and I ran that for almost three years, lol. As soon as I upgraded with a quad rail and a picatinny mount with a better light, I got one nights practice in before the locals, who were over a mile away, called the cops on me and the sheriff's told me I couldn't do it anymore or I'd risk getting a fine if there were to be more complaints. Night shooting was so much fun, I loved every second of it and it was real eye opening too as far how effective or a liability a wml can be. I need to find a new spot!
Awesome video. Thank you.
I have like 4 of these lights. Love em
Recently I've configured a couple rifles with simple setups like this. It's definitely refreshing.
my standby has always been a streamlight tlr1 rm with pressure switch. has been a great light for me for years and i have one on all my rifles and shotguns. at around 150, but comes with pressure switch and picatinny mount already affixed.
impact weapons components also has mounts for the A2/A4 handguards for like 45 bucks, I have a g2x with one of their mounts and its pretty solid.
Very helpful, saving us money, thanks 😊
Magpul polymer mount, Surefire G2x on 4 rifles one being a SAM7 SF and an ultimak no issues with the polymer magpul mount and the heat on the AK. Does a bang up job
THANKS Reid!!
Semper Fidelis
Outstanding. I run the same light.
Love your content, Reid. Just wanna say I recently bought a Fenix PD32 v2...it's a brighter light with a lot more throw for about the same price. Have not tried mounting it to a rifle
Great information
A combo meal at McDonald’s is now over $20 thanks to build back better! Weeeeeee!!!
Amazingly prices have not changed much at my local In-N-Outs🤙🏼😎
6uild 6ack 6etter
I own a couple surefires and streamlights but my current favorite rifle light is the olight odin.
Good set up Dude! I have a bunch of them
Its nice to hear someone say you don't need a Surefire Scout.
I’ve been doing this for years now. I recently found that Streamlight Protac Hl’s (not hlx) can be had around $30 used on eBay. Has 750 lumens and 18,500 candela. All I do is wrap them or spray paint them and they’re good to go on a 1” mount. Just make sure everything is loctited and it’s set.
Agreed. I run the Surefire G2X on both of my carbines. Affordable, reliable, and simple to use. I think too many people try to complicate their optic and light combos. KISS apllies!
Well done brother well done.
✊🏽✊🏻🇺🇸 Native American love brother!! Love your work! ✊🏻✊🏽🇺🇸
We were putting flashlights on rifles and shotguns years before it became so popular. I used to duct tape a predator light on my .270 when we would shoot deer and hogs at night out of our bean and pea fields.
Thank you. I know so many guys who think if you don’t spend 3-500 on a light you can’t defend yourself. I’m a minimalist like you I like streamlight anything more than that I won’t spend on a light.
I have almost the exact same set up on all my life or liberty guns. A streamlight tlr 1hl mounted via a 45 degree offset mount on the top rail just behind my buis. Total cost per gun for my illumination setup is about 200 to 250 each depending upon the mount. For my needs they do everything a white light needs to for me.
I just got some cheap flashlight and mount from tractor supply it was $29 for the whole thing I have been using it for 4 years and It worked so I bought 2 more so far so good
Appreciate it
If you need something that us more heat resistant than the polymer mounts, those Cheapo KZ mounts that Botach sells are actually rock solid if you locktite them. Had one with a similar combo to Reid's on an AK bolted to an Ultimak Rail for a very long time, and it worked great for the price.
Man- you are informative and funny.
Thanks
Always great wisdom. Thanks
I run just a 70 dollar kalarus with a magpul cantilever to keep it low out of my sights and foward of front sights. Have 2, had to replace the polymer cantlever with aluminum one on my mossberg, kept snapping the lug clean off that sits in the mlok slot no matter how tight. Survived since couple months after mlok came out onto market, still going strong.
G2X is what I run on my 14.5” BCM. Great light. Works perfect. Mounted it with BCM’s light mount.
same, great simple, affordable, and reliable light.
Yeah… sure… building back better 🤣🤣 love it man keep up the great work
Another great vid thx
I have the original G2X Tactical on my rifle in 200 Lumens which was high back then. The package said back then and even today that it’s not for weapon mounting. Well 13/14 years later it still works and it has never left the rifle.
just ordered this setup for my m&p 15, sadly the mount went up to $35, it'll be well worth it i'm sure. May God be with you and yours, Mr. Henrichs
This is awesome timing! I was looking for a light that works and not a battery two wires a switch and a led for 300 $,Thats crazy. I have been shooting since I was 7 and now Im 40 . These young "gun boobers" try to get you to buy everything. Thanks for the info!
Yea, I'm a decade over you. Illumination is only for target identification and acquisition. After a hurricane and only starlight, flipped to big peep, couldn't see front post till the BOOM. Tightened down on the strap while sitting on my ass, only muscle memory, just a little left at about 100y, I knew the hold under... yet like you I'd been shooting way more than a few times. Knew how far I was off with the muzzle flash 2" maybe 3".
Have to add you can "blind" yourself with the cone of light if it's too bright, you'll loose your peripheral vison to the cone of light. "Loudest" illumination is not always best. Running to a friends house because his wife was scared, I didn't grab my brightest because I knew the range I'd be popping off rounds as and it was an unknown threat, turned out to be a critter that scared her 😂
Great video Reid. Always love your no nonsense approach to things. You deff set yourself apart from most on CZcams. What chamber flag is that??
On my main homestead rifle I am using a spare scope ring and an off brand light that's bright and reliable so far.
Mounted where yours is.
Agreed. Although I am a fan of the Streamlight Rail mount 2.
Same exact set up I use. Mount and light. Amazon sells them both and that Viking mount is pretty nice for the money, the light still has same head as all the high dollar Surefire and you can still say you own a surefire. Really is a good light!
they are not the same head lol
Midwest Industries also make a great light rail that attaches to the gas block for those classic M4 carbines glad the classics are coming back in the apocalypse we won’t have batteries just iron sights but for now I’ll keep my red dots and LPVOs long live the republic 🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thank you Reid
Thank you Reid for the video man. Looking in good shape. I just did the 100-7 drill this morning with a SAM7SF. Shot well!
Any good advice for a good IR laser device? Want to put one on my AK but I'm afraid I'll melt it. Maybe, passive shooting with the PVS-14 would be the way to go. Anyways, have a good Sunday evening Sir. God bless ya!
