0:00 - Intro
Knowing how to learn a song on the spot is an incredible asset to have. You'll be surprised how often it happens! Here's Ayla's process she goes through whenever she finds herself in this situation.
0:59 - Listening to the Song
Ideally, you’ll want to listen to the song as many times as possible so you can familiarize yourself with the structure and dynamics of the song.
5:50 - Verse
The verse starts with the lead part ringing out and then goes into arpeggiating the chords.
10:53 - Chorus
The most noticeable part of the chorus is the power chord progression. (G, A, & B).
15:13 - Tips for Learning the Song Fast
When you're not in a time crunch, it's recommended to listen to the song with headphones so you can easily pick out the guitar parts by ear. But when you're in a rush, there's no problem with cross-referencing with the tab online.
17:22 - Final Performance
Now that you have the song down, it's time to perform!
About Ayla Tesler-Mabe:
Ayla has been making waves in the world of guitar playing as a professional guitarist, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and composer, since the early age of 14. After only been playing for two years, her first CZcams video (a rendition of John Mayall’s “Hideaway”) put her on the map and kickstarted her music career. She has since been featured in Rolling Stone magazine, become a member of the Ernie Ball and Fender family of artists, and earned various Berklee College of Music scholarships. Musically, Ayla finds great pleasure in exploring the numerous avenues available to her through various styles of music, as seen through her work with Calpurnia and Ludic.

This woman is too real! Her attitude is outstanding. And she has a TON of talent too.
These are very rare characteristics on YT.......and with people in general these days.
Great job. Love the channel.
hahahahah
I'm never going to complain about not being able to stretch for chords again. She can really play some tough chords with smaller hands.
Small hands are a bitch for a guitarist. I try to play blues and Hendrix songs that use the thumb on the 6th string, and struggle a lot.
it's all about that thumb placement baby
look at her thumb
I’m glad you leave in the “mistakes” as this is what we all experience as we battle muscle memory learning new songs. Awesome 👍🏼
She's so cool 🔥🔥I hope she has lots of success in the future 🤙🏼
When learning a song by a band I usually try to find the live version to the song over the recorded version, as the live version is usually the basis of how they played it in the studio. The opening riff of this song is octaves, B-C#-D-C#-B, then occasionally at the end of the octaves they will play the low E string open followed by the G# note on the low E string. Then the verse is B - F# minor (4th fret on A string, 4th fret on D string, and 2nd fret on B string) - E Major (2-A, 2-D, 1-G) Then there’s the G to A part. Then last part is B - G - D - E - F#/G - A. Also I never trust tabs online as they are usually not played correctly.
Have you ever needed to learn a song REALLY fast? Let us know what the song was ⬇️🎸
@@nickgames7120 that was not the question xd
@@p1TCHONEEE wait it says I needed to learn a song really fast? I thought it said I needed to learn a fast song lol
I was at a Soul Asylum concert in 2007. Guitarist Dan Murphy said, "Who here knows how to play guitar?" I yelled, "Me!".. He then answered, "Get up here. You're hired." I'm not kidding. I went up onstage, and a roadie brought out a guitar for me and told me we'd be playing new single, 'Stand Up and Be Strong'. Easy song, but I had never learned it on guitar. The roadie told me the chords for the verse section before the band counted in and we were live. I watched Dave Pirner's hands to figure out the chorus section and just rolled with it. Fastest I've ever learned a song. By the middle of the song, I was fine. By the end of the song, I was walking on clouds. What a rush. People in the audience caught up with me after the show to share their photos from my impromptu performance, so that made it all even better.
wonderwall
@@nickgames7120 both works though 🤷♀️
I just love the way she organizes information in a short video. and ofcourse the way she speaks. very poetic.
She reminds me of a female Mark Zuckerberg speaking
I’m so blessed to have found your channel! Thanks for your young wisdom!✌️
Thank you Ayla. This is one of my favorite songs. Love what you're doing!
Ayla, you are wonderful! Thanks for your tips and insights!
I have been playing for over 35 years (if not more) and I must say I really enjoy your personality and teaching ability....
Wish I had someone to teach me back in my younger days!
You Go Girl!
Always super helpful! You are one of the best guitar teacher I know.
One of the best videos I've watched. Love how you showed even mistakes and working through each part. And playing just enough to be able to play it live if you're not in advance player yet. Thanks
You're sooo AWESOME...... such a soft spoken, blissful personality!
Cheers!!
This is cool. I've always waited for the lesson vid to come out for a song I want to play. This gives me incentive to explore and figure it out on my own. Thanks ATM
Just a comment from an old fart. I love YT for getting help in learning songs! I grew up learning guitar when you had to gut it out or buy the sheet music (which was often an interpretation not always the exact band written music). As I had limited income (and storage space) I had to create a method , like Ayla has to learn songs. I suggest every want to be musician learn at least the bare minimum music theory basics. At least enough to know what chords can be played in what major and minor keys. I also suggest learning the pentatonic scales (major too but not necessary for my method). Play the song and try to do an impromptu solo or noodle over it. Maybe simply play the scale front to back. Move up and down the neck until the pentatonic in a certain key sounds good (or at least in tune with) with the song. Well now you know the key the song is in! Once you know the key, you also know which chords will work in that key. Now you can try the chords against the song a bar or section at a time to see if it sounds correct. This is how many tabbers create their tabs for a given song. Do this enough times and it gets easier and easier. You may even train your ear to recognize common keys of songs without playing over them first. You will also see over time that guitar heavy songs tend to be in certain keys that favor the guitar such as G, C, A, E and D major ( and their relative minors [look it up]). Remember the only perfect way is the way that works for you. The only real way to find your perfect way to is to try a few. Good luck.
Some songs you don't want to learn because you don't ever want to hear that song again once you've learned it.
Such an honest person. ❤️
Thanks for taking the time to make this video! I enjoyed you learning more than the song .
this is so genuinely helpful for me!!
love the hair ayla!!! you are a great instructor, very calm and well spoken! much love

This is one of the most helpful things I've seen on CZcams. Thank you.

Hey! You’re a good teacher cuz you just suggest things and don’t insist on being right. So i always learn a new thing from your videos. 🤘🏻🔥 And you have a ton of cuteness 😎🔥

Fantastic tutorial
Thankyou so much! I was looking for such type of a video :)
Was just scrolling through the comments and found that I had already watched this video around two years ago. It feels like I am stuck on the same page for years and don't understand how to get out of here
Thanks a lot Ayla 👍🏻
thank you. thats what i need
YOU'RE A GOOD TEACHER
Cool strat, girl. Love your lessons and sense of humor!
Hi Ayla thank you for share have a great day . From Bogota Colombia
Hendrix smash hits in the background, Nice!
That's a really cool lick. I'm going to add that to my practice. 🙂
Nice one Ayla, You're Genuine
Ayla is the best!!
An automatic Like and then I watch the video. I know you won't let me down!
Great tips
Hey good day, I am a recent subscriber, within the last hour. During lunchtime so to speak whenever that can be during the day. Enjoyed two of your videos this included. Pretty interesting how you did this and explained this. However I wanted to watch the movies! Just kidding. The way you broke down the song and so forth to figure it out, was awesome.Really like what you did when you were doing the rhythm stuff the particular picking strumming effect. Love that. I would do similar things in jam sessions at times. Because of my ignorance to the song. What an inspiration! You are a saint. My self-esteem just went up a few notches today. As well as I’m sure the other viewers. Thanks for teaching and sharing this with us. Look forward to more. Stay well and have a beautiful day. Jim
Very nice good job young lady thanks 🙂👍👋👊
love that guitar...😊
You did great 👍🏻 I like learning the rhythm first then lead licks and it’s never perfect
That is a beautiful Strat!!!
Fender ultra strat in Texas tea color
A couple of days ago I was just looking for tabs of a song that I found out aren't available online so thank You!
(The song is "Wall Street" from the band Wig Wam...)
Beautiful guitar
One additional step I like to take us to watch the bands play live. After I learn the song I can cross refer to the fingering of the guitarist to see if I'm playing correctly
i love your attitude lady..........God bless you
I think I'm in Love!
awesome playon
Sweet info
Great! 😉
I really love Ayla Tesler Mabe 😍🎵🎸✊🏿
I love ayla
this is sick
I really enjoy your content, and I think this is a great approach! Potentially a missed opportunity was to work out the chords to the rhythm guitar first, because those things alone will help define all the lead parts (they usually go hand in hand). But one thing I noticed was that the Chorus chords you worked out clearly were a bit dissonant and not correct, and following the bass notes will confirm that. It actually follows the chord structure B F#m and E - just a small thing but actually turns out to be a huge dissonance! Hope that helps, lots of love from the UK! Jordan
Amazing❤🔥🎸⚘🤟🏻✌🏻
Thanks for including mistakes. It gives beginners much more realistic expectations. It was so defeating as a beginner to see people display superhuman skill without failure when I would learn new things.
Thanks Ayla. Usually we see you perform at level 10/10 and we assume you started there and it is reassuring to see that you put some work in too. For other songs you have YT covers for, like say "hide away" how did you get the point where you got pretty much every note correct except the parts you embellished. Do you work on it in sections? Do you get sheet music/tabs or painstakingly learn by ear?
ASOME AWESOME.
you are in control of everything I have now
Nice
WHY IN THE WORLD DO I NOT UNDERSTAND ANYTHING FROM SOMEONE ELSE ?
YOU ARE A TRUE QUEEN :D
Because she’s not condescending and doesn’t make you feel like a dumb ass. Unlike some of the others.
🙏 thanks
Thank you very much for the video.. Just a thought, isn't putting the song to .5 speed kind of lower the frequency of the music being played?
I never realized how much of a song is influenced by the vocal tones....until I tried focusing on guitar only! This seems to have taken over songs since the 70's for the most part, seemingly in response to the "electric" scene and constant gear improvements
She is the Koolest🏆
In my experience, covers and tabs are rarely 100% correct. So use your ear. Isolated tracks are great for this.
Heck the band don't even play it 100% live as on the recording.
Some of the bought TAB books are the worst.
Can you do a video like this but for difficult solos? I find song verses and intros are usually easy but then the solo is very challenging to play with a backing track
Luv Her
Your new hairstyle looks great! Keep on jamming girl!
I’m trying to learn Under The Bridge by the RHCPs quickly. For some odd reason I can’t get my pinky to understand the meaning of quickly..

Hi..ypu teach so nicely..I am following you from.long time..now I can play some songs everytime we gathering with friends...so grateful of you..I am sidi definetly you are not sidi...you are aila...hahhahaha
Learn to Fly is a great song, but hardly the most difficult that you couldn't work it out by ear on the guitar... most alternative rock songs are very easy, but fun, to play
Nice one...but I'm hearing octaves in the intro melody...thanks for the tips
First rule is that just because your guitar is in tune it needs to be tuned to the record. After you think you've got the tuning play a few notes to hear if it is truly in tune to the record. Find the opening chord which will usually be the first chord of the key.
YT unsubscribed for some reason but I was like “hell, did Ayla retire or something? I never get any notifications!” So I looked for you and yep, I had to re-subscribe.
What guitar pedal were you using for the verses?
Thank you Ayla. I see and love the effort here, and timestamps, woohoo!! 🎸⏰ ...extra time for a 🌮
Gotta make time for 🌮
Awesome. I love the way women are kicking it on guitar. And now more teachers are joining the ranks. More please!
What about when it comes to learning a song with chords with out any lead please 🙏 xx
I really would love to learn how to play songs via ear, but I'm still a beginner and I don't know all m chords, scales, etc. Is it too early to try to learn through ear?
Ayla is so cool & sweet!
Came for the lesson, and stay because of the teacher
For the next challenge, "Bleed" by Meshuggah 🤘🤣
She has to do it on the strat too
