The Best Inks For Sketching In Fountain Pen & Watercolour

  • I have been asked many times about the inks I use. Because I sketch with a fountain pen, my ink needs to be clogproof, and because I colour my sketches with watercolour, they need to be waterproof too. In this little video I am sharing my favourite brands - and I am lucky enough to be given all the ink I could ever use by some very lovely people in my classes, and by generous people working for De Atramentis. They have no idea I am making this very complimentary video about their ink!
    Should you ever join one of my classes, or decide to join the sketching family and become a member of our little troupe, the inks I use nearly all the time are Document Ink in brown and black by De Atramentis, and Sketch Ink in Emma by Rohrer and Klingner. I am also becoming more obsessed with purple ink lately, which I make by mixing Violet and Fuschia Document Inks by De Atramentis. And I have Frieda Sketch Ink by Rohrer and Klingner in my sights...
    All the others are just for fun - and I am all for that!

    Really useful Info Róisín. I really fancy using a more subtle ink for underdrawing on my watercolours and I love the 55º nib you use for that more expressive line. Shame I've only just bought a TWSBI Eco T. Great pen but a very regular line. It's fine for some of my purely line work but I would prefer the variation. More purchases coming up!

    I want to write with my fountain pen with the Lilly color (rohrer & klingner sketch ink), but it is dark directly from the bottle, do you know if it is possible to lighten the color tone with water or something without ruining the pen? Thank you.

    • @roisincure
      @roisincure  Před rokem +1

      I have found Lily to be the worst of the range for flow. It’s inclined to clog. I love the dark colour but you could certainly try adding boiled water and see if that works to lighten it.

    My rohrer & klingner sketchink (Thea) has a lot of particles in the buttom of the bottle. I shake the bottle to desolve it. but the settlement comes back in the converter, and I don´t feel like shaking my pen. Have you the same problem or did I get a bad bottle? I use rohrer & klingner dokumentus (a document ink for fountain pen) no problems there.

    • @roisincure
      @roisincure  Před rokem +1

      That's unfortunate. I may yet have that problem, but I have never had it. However I do notice that all my inks separate in the bottle if they're left idle for a few months. There's definitely such thing as a bad bottle though - one of my students has had one.
