  • E-mopeds are a relatively new invention but it hasn't taken them long to attract a decent share of consumer interest. Today it is safe to say that the world of personal mobility vehicles was taken by surprise, as today everyone seems to be interested in buying one of these fat-tire bikes.
    The success of moped-styled two-wheelers could be explained by several factors. First of all, they are equipped with high-torque electric motors with outputs exceeding 750Watts (and in some cases even 1000Watts), and are faster than an average ebike. Secondly, they are equipped with elongated seats. These usually provide great cushioning for one of two riders, just making your commuting experience more pleasant. And finally, these two-wheeled EVs seem to bring aesthetic pleasure to those who enjoyed riding regular mopeds.
    As it has been already mentioned above, this class of throttle-powered bicycles is gaining popularity day by day, so seeing new models being released is quite common. We are trying to keep up to date with latest model reveals and have already posted information about models from 2021 here: • Electric motorcycles, ...
    Battery-electric mopeds with pedals are quite trendy and powerful, but how much money does it take to own one of these? We tried to put together a definitive overview of the cheapest models that either exist today or will be going on sale in early 2022.
    After watching this video review you will get a clear understanding of what it takes to get your hands on a commuting vehicle like that and what specifications and estimated battery range you can expect.

    Great video. Nice to know the specs of many different companies and models. I've been researching moped style e-bikes, but settled on a regular style e-bike. And, believe it or not, the one and only reason I didn't get a moped style, is because of the height of these. I am 6'1" and I have yet to see a company that makes one for the average taller people. I know that juiced bikes has the seat height adjustment, but it doesn't seem to be significant. When we pedal, the knees should be able to extend almost to straight out. Just a little frustrating that these companies didn't or don't consider this. 😑

      @jackmehoff1481 Před 2 lety +4

      I have the same problm, at 6'3 its hard to find an ebike that fits me. I ended up building my own with a BBSHD kit, An extra large Diamondback Overdrive frame, a custom controller, and a 72v battery. It cruses at 45mph like a motorcycle, and is super easy to maintain. Over 3 years of commuting daily I've only had to do regular matinence, other than replacing the hall sensors once but that was my fault. Between electricitiy, tires, brake pads, and chain replacements, I spend less than $400 a year to go to and from work.

    I own a similar ebike like these one shown. Only downfall with mine has no rear suspension and the Kenda 4 inch tyres wear out real quick. I've been through 4 tyres in first year and most of my riding is on grass. I've changed to 16 inch motorcycle tyres and they should last for years and feel a lot safer when I venture on the road. The Kenda tyres recommend maximum 20 pounds pressure which make the ride smoother but don't feel 100% safe when cornering fast. Apart from that, the bikes a great to ride.

    I don't know who these are affordable for. The first one I could buy, but it wouldn't be legal to ride here, no pedals. Unless you have the cash to put down on the barrel for one of the others, you'll have to finance it. The interest charged on these transactions is the same or more that you'd pay on a credit card, is calculated as soon as the loan is made, and your monthly payments are fixed and *non-negotiable*. The loan interest is immediately added on to the principal, and then divided by the number of months in the life of the loan (say 36 or 48), the result is your monthly payment. A $2000 e-bike put me into bankruptcy 3 years ago, thanks to the financing, and the bike getting stolen and never recovered. The insurance fought me for 2 years, and then only paid a depreciated-value that amounted to 18% of the purchase price, that also contributed to the bankruptcy.
    Affordable, for the people that actually NEED one of these for transport, would be about twice the cost of a pedal bike. I won't bother looking at purpose-built e-bikes again for a long time. They're still too expensive, and this video proved it, and they are also very risky to own since they are prime targets for theft. Conversion kits are something I'm looking at now, or an electric kick-scooter, there are some actually affordable models of those. They'd still require public transit a lot for longer trips though, so less overall utility.
    Edit: for the clown below me, @VanGough - do you understand basic economics? You don't seem to understand that the 2k was the LIST price, with the interest added on, it came to $3830, over 36 months. That's $106.38 a month. My income was a net of about $1600/month (it still is since wages haven't risen in years); with fixed expenses, such as RENT ($650/month), food ($200/month) and student loans ($435/month). Also a smoker, though I cut back. That's the life of the working poor. And these fucking bikes are affordable? Everybody and anybody who thinks so, can fuck themselves sideways.
    Affordable, in this context, means that people can fit a purchase into their budget without having to give up something critical, like food, or utilities. It doesn't mean cheap toys for the fucking wealthy.

    • @Nphen
      @Nphen Před 2 lety +3

      You are a case-study as to why student debt relief is so critical and why huge college costs and loan costs are bankrupting the American people. Literally, in your case. If you have a degree you should be taking home at least $2500 per month. Even without a degree, a $15 minimum wage would net you about $2000 per month. If America were a sensible nation, we would have a Post Office Bank to make vehicle loans at about 5% per year. The interest on your bike for 3 years would have been $300, not $1800. Predatory capitalism took your dreams and got you to sign for almost double the price of that bike. I hope you bankrupted a lot more bad debt than that $3k or so on that loan. Certainly, even without Federal student debt relief, you should have been able to bankrupt those student loans. What a backwards-ass shithole country we live in!
      My only issue with your story is that you still don't seem to realize the true cost of new bikes. A non-electric bike can easily run $3k-$5k for a new Specialized or Salsa bike. Your only option is to look for a good used bike and order a hub motor kit and a battery. Save up for a slightly better "donor bike" and look around all winter. You should be able to find a decent bike, maybe even with disc brakes. Be prepared to haggle the price lower, much like you seemed to fail to negotiate the terms of that awful loan you took (not trying to shame you, just blown away by how bad the terms were). The motor + battery will be $700 or less and should be able to get your bike up to 30mph on a 750w front hub motor. This is much faster than most sub-$3000 prebuilt bikes. I built a DIY bike in 2020 and another one this year and they're the best investments I've made for a bike. I ride every day on the trails, pick up my kids from school in a little trailer, and can displace other car trips as well.

    • @Nphen
      @Nphen Před 2 lety

      @@mfmr200 That $500 gas scooter costs $1299 at a US dealership. You cannot take them on bike trails. Having an e-bike is about getting away from the noise, smoke, and hassle of gasoline. Not getting gas or oil on my hands and not having to deal with carburetor issues or trying to kick start a vehicle is worth the added expense. States will probably ban new gas scooter sales within the decade. The USA should be moving beyond fossil fuel.

    Find a cheap used motorcycle that doesn't work bc of the engine or such.. Junkyard works fine. Take everything out and maybe reuse the wheels and suspension if they're alright, sell everything else. Could get a profit from it instead of losing cash. Buy the motor and batteries yourself, pay someone to put it together and it is possible to get it almost to half the price of these, labour excluded.

    where does ebike become "moped" or are they same? Esp in the eyes of the law where riding on a sidewalk and registrations come into play?

    • @b1icky
      @b1icky Před 2 lety +1

      They’re the same thing. Moped is Motors+Pedals. Doesn’t matter if it’s gas or not. Anything else is a scooter or motorcycle.
      Read up on your local laws because there’s a massive discrepancy between places. In my state for mopeds, If the motor is 50cc and under (or equivalent) and has pedals, you won’t need a license. But if I didn’t have pedals, it would count as a motorcycle, and would need a separate license and registration.

    I have a Sur-ron x black edition, it's been a great electric bike? It was 3,600$. Which is the most I would pay for an electric dirt bike? I thought about the ZERO fx, before I purchased the Sur-ron? There's so much limitation with the ranges and street riding, If I had to do it again? I probably would just purchase CRF 300 rally, for 6,000$ New? Because I want to ride on the street also? But the electric bikes are fun for the trails and goofing off? Maybe In the future when the Battery ranges are better? Just does it make sense at this point when some of those electric bikes are so expensive compared to the gas? Just can't justify it at this point?
