Magik and Juggernaut have that "lil bro" energy. They both have the younger sibling shit going on, so they have a good dynamic off the bat.
I'm not a fan of the 'black eyeliner' for Beast but I do love that it *is* how he looked in that era.
Yeah.. when 80âs art is way better than current art.. you are doing something wrong.
The art in general turns me off. I blame the inker on this one.
I just want to thank you for this overview. There's another channel I won't mention I used to watch all the time for comic stuff and in recent years I just feel like they've been going downhill and getting way too negative. They reviewed this same comic and definitely missed everything you just said and I swear they would have once picked up on that. So it's sad to see that but I'm glad I can come here and get the deeper perspective I'm looking for

Ahh yes, thank you for voicing the same thing I'd been feeling about the code name "Temper" that they gave to Idie. The vast majority of ppl would assume it has something to do with anger, which so does not fit her personality. Took me a little bit longer to figure that sense of the name was meant to be "Temper" as in "Temperature". That said, I'm happy she's on the squad & hoping she's plays a prominent part of this X team
When Magneto described his role as tempering the early X-Men to make them stronger, I finally got the sense that Idie's name was supposed to reflect the application of heat and cold to make things more durable. It just doesn't resonate for me because that's not the most likely thing to come to mind. I'll get used to it, but it's still weird.
I'm not really the biggest fan of this first issue...but I'm willing to give it a shot. I do like the budding relationship between Magik and Juggernaut... I think that's cool.
My hesitancy comes with Kid Omega. There was a lot of development with him in the krakoan age, i hope it doesn't just go away. His initial introduction here seems off a little. Another hesistation is the art. Not a big fan of that.
I somewhat like the fact they taken over a sentinal factory. It reminds me of the bendis run where Cyclops took over the weapon X lab after the Avengers vs. X-men series. Time will tell on how it goes...

I like Jed McKay. I think his current Avengers run is one of my favorites so im willing to give some benefit of the doubt. The art's good and the lineup is interesting (and perhaps growing over time?) enough. I am pretty happy about Idie and her having a bit more agency than she has in the past.
Still bums me out that they're in Alaska after being ripped violently from paradise.

Hey Ernie, great video. I was waiting patiently to see your thoughts on the new X-men book. I think the Krakoan might be Hellion. I'm looking at the energy projection and whenever Hellion use his power it's usually a green Hugh, and the fact that he's levitating rocks instead of metal which says alot. But I can be wrong and that's OK to, it's just exiting see how things unfold. Keep up the good work dude.

Oh! Soria is an interesting guess. The silhouette fits, and the person behind her could be a drone. I don't know that "The Doctor" fits, but definitely interesting. I was thinking Astra with Joseph, but who knows.

There is no way one book can cover all of Krakoa. Youâre looking at 3-4 Omnibuses AT LEAST.

I'm really stuck on The Means. I think you're reight about it being someone who has lots of money and/or resources. I'm just not sure which mutant satisfies both that and the silhouette.

Not really a fan of x-men rosters having two telepaths in a team but an interesting start nonetheless and I can see them implementing the new x-gene activation storyline being into the MCU
Definitely off to a promising (if somewhat familiar) start.
Loved the story and writing. Art bothered me at first, but then I remember I hated Bill S on New Mutants at first then loved it. Ryanâs backgrounds were awesomeâŠmany Marvel books have bland backgrounds.
Loved the inclusion of the chief. Last page looked like a scene from a horror movie.
Was afraid what would follow Krakoa (which I liked), this is what I needed
Im gone let them cook....but this wasnt the homerun i was hoping for in terms of excitement. It didnt get me excited and that art just not hitting for me, but lets see how things look once we're 5 issues in on all of the new series. Fingers crossed
It wasnât bad but something was missing for me. I like all the characters, and the Majik/Juggernaut team-up was fun moment, but idk if this would be line-up for whatâs essentially an X-Men reboot. The conversation between Hank and the police chief was good too, but I also felt like âweâve done this a dozen times beforeâ. Even the villains feel derivative of what weâve seen before.
Not crazy about the art either, I feel like a book thatâs coming at such a crucial time for the X-Men needs the best artists Marvel can throw at it. Definitely gonna keep reading but Iâm not sold yet.

First of all love the channel. I havenât gotten or read X-men #1 yet BUT Iâm a huge X fan. I like how you break comics down and give your insights. Just on this video I was thinking, could the shadow characters (the fourth school) in this X-men 1 be the kids that brought back hellfire club, aged up some? Not good in history but back in the 2000 New X-men run or it could have been early 2010. That would be very clever in story tellingâŠ.

In fairness Idie did get that moment where they acknowledged how badly she got screwed by Krakoa, but also as far back as Schism.

Hey Blerd! Can you or someone in the comments expand on the problem of the Temper moniker for Idie? It's not the first time I'm seeing someone talk about this, but english is not my main language, maybe that's why I'm not getting it.
Temper can also mean state of mind or feelings be it calm or angry. I think blerd was referencing that when people hear of a black woman called temper it could connote the âangry black womanâ stereotype. This is often used to characterize black women who are loud or very opinionated.

This issue was a good way to start off the post krakoa era for the X-Men especially for Betsy Braddock.
This is the new Psylocke. Betsy will be in X-Force which is coming out later. It looks good!

This is just the normal timeline. Cyclops is still married to Jean Grey, sheâs just out in space as the Phoenix. This Psylocke (Kwannon) is still dating John Greycrow.

Letâs be honest about the beast situation. Marvel had to undo a lot of Percyâs many character assassinations, beast was just one of many Percy just got wrong

Magik and Juggernaut have a great dynamic (probly more than her and Colussus).
I hate Tenper's Bride of Frankenstein look, nut happy that she made the roster. They need to bring in that omega lvl mutant that could control kinetic energy (the one Juggernaut saved).
All in all, the concepts r nothing new or as innovative as Krakoa, but its only the 1st issue...
The Krakoa era was new, original, different, had variety and most importantly direction. I suspect the new direction is to just return to a status quo that will resemble their plans for MCU

Beast was making clones that he could download his personality into. Sage had a back-up, but it was a super old one. So when they revived the clone to fight Beast-prime, the personality he got is from the 80s.

Good review and liking your shirt (I need to see that movie). This was the first time I enjoyed the X-Men in years and finally happy to recommend a comic book other than one from the Energon-Verse. This feels like a true continuation of Cyclops's Story after Gillen/Bendis Departure. Happy someone got Scott's Voice right. This Cyclops is effective, strategic, looking to build relationships but at the same time, has that darker edge. Its that balance I want.
