  • in this video I remove the tank so I can access the top of the engine, and also the rad as I suspect it has a leak. I also check the valve clearance to make sure they are in manufacture specification,
    hope you enjoy the video, don't forget to like and subscribe.

    You showed how to inspect the valve clearances but it would've been nice to know how to actually adjust one. Great info all the same. Thanks.

    Thanks for the video. I carried out the valve clearance check on my own Tiger a few months back. Getting that valve cover off was challenging enough, but the real fun stuff was getting it back on again and keeping the gasket intact! Overall, the 1050 is certainly a good, reliable bike, but Triumph's designers certainly didn't make the job of accessing the top of the engine a quick and easy process. Looking forward to your next upload.

      Haha yeah it is a little tight in there and yeah definitely not a quick job really, that was the reason I disconnected the harness to fold at the way just to give me that little extra room, I figured no quick way so might as well make life easier. to be honest I didn’t find it to bad putting it back together as the dowels and new gasket stayed exactly in place for me.

    Good morning, nice work!
    I have a motorbike identical to yours even in colour, from 2017 with 32,000 km. and (coincidence) I had the valve clearance checked a month ago and found everything to be in order

      thankyou, yeah goes to show how fantastic these engines are, I cant wait to actually get this on the road and experience the 3 cylinder.

    kind of confirms that the 12k service manual clearance check is premature, as reported by other ownners, at least you know now.

    Nice project bike, I think you'll enjoy that triple engine when you ride it. I'd highly recommend getting dealer tool software, for £60 it's well worth it. You'll then be able to check/adjust idle speed, balance throttle bodies, bleed the abs system properly, reset service indicator, run diagnostics etc. Nice to see the valves in spec. They're really not that difficult to do, just time consuming. Had to do two exhaust valves on my street triple 675r when I had it. Exhausts tend to go out of spec more as they get hotter than inlets.

      thanks, yes will definitely take a look into getting the software will make my life a lot easier and better. yeah was glad I didn't need to adjust them as I don't have any shims. would of had to order a box in.

      @@DGMotorcycles I always buy single ones, as you probably know you can sometimes relocate them if you're lucky. Looking forward to the next episode 👍🏻

    One valve being in tolerance definitely does not imply that the others will. Most of the time when you check valve clearances you're going to find a couple that are okay but they can really be all over the place.

    I think the muck in the expansion tank could be the residue of some rad weld or something similar that someone had used in an attempt to fix the radiator.

    Hi just wondering,have you come across the hot start issue with these tigers!.Tks jim

    • @DGMotorcycles
      @DGMotorcycles  Před 7 měsíci

      I haven’t experienced this yet, however I’ve seen this issue loads online. It seems to relate to a bad earth on the backplate in the starter motor due to a little bit of corrosion build up, but as the starter gets hot from engine soak and hot day it expands so it then has a bad earth.
      Puddin cables and a good battery seem to cure this issue. Hope this helps

      @SuperJimbell Před 7 měsíci

      @DGMotorcycles Replaced battery, reg/rec,stator,water/oil pump,done valve clearances and new chain along with new battery cables and still the bastard plays up..no worries thanks anyway

      @DGMotorcycles  Před 7 měsíci

      @@SuperJimbell oh wow id defiantly pull the starter motor apart and inspect, but id give these pudding cables a go as they are slightly thicker then the OEM cables so give more juice to starter motor, I'm going to order a set as it seems to fix this issue.

      I had the hot start issue on my 2013 sport 1050, with 45,600 miles. Fitted the "pudding cables" and not had an issue since. ( basically new thicker guage battery cables)

    • @SuperJimbell
      @SuperJimbell Před 4 měsíci

      I replaced the starter,stator,rectifier,battery and even got the valves adjusted.
      Turns out to be the battery earth on the engine under the airbox was corroded.
      Unscrew the earth and wire brush the engine corroded part and you should be OK.. although mine starts up,it's a bit slower to do so..couldn't care once it starts..good luck.
