Tupac was a fraud, a ballet dancer who grew up in the suburbs and went to a theatre arts school with other rich white people. He wasn’t hood or in that life. He was writing in a diary describing his favorite candles and bubble baths. He’s the reason the black youth thinks gang culture is the only way, he’s an actor and you fell for it. He even admitted in an interview that he put on a fake voice and tough guy persona.

So an artist had to go to someone who could fund their music. That’s when they ran into the contract “take it or leave it” issues. The drug lords like Master P or the former football players like Suge knight had enough money to put up to hire their own producers and these dudes had people come in and actually play instruments and not do everything digitally. Even then you still had to get distribution which was way different before the social media, streaming era. So idk who the hell you’re calling slow 😂 you had one of the most uneducated takes of all time. What you’re saying is like saying why don’t writers , directors and actors of movies own the movies they write and perform in. I’m using this example because maybe it’s a little easier to understand. Producers fund a production and they gave the capital to buy expensive equipment to make movies. Now with digital tools and the evolution of ai art 10 years from more, you don’t need to rent an ARRI Alexa camera for over a thousand dollars a day and build full sets, and feed and house actors. In the future with ai art the writer and director can make everything from a computer and publish digitally instead of physical discs and don’t have to sign contracts

Aries is correct. I graduated high school in 1995 and the 90’s had the best hip hop,music in general. From Nirvana,Soundgarden,STP,TOOL,Alice in Chains,Metallica,Megadeth,Korn and the list goes on and on. Biggie is my favorite rapper followed by Pac,Cube,DMX,Jay-Z,Nas,Big Pun,KRS-One,Big Daddy Kane. Groups like EPMD,WU-Tang,Cypress Hill,Westside Connection,OutKast,Onyx,Naughty by Nature and so on. Even R&B groups like Boys 2 Men,New Edition,BBD,122,Total,SWV,TLC,ABC, there was so much talent then and it all came out in the 90’s and early 00’s. 50,Nelly,Ludacris,G-Unit,Usher.

Rappers from the 90s are definitely better lyricists than what we have today however Kendrick and Cole are not the only talented rappers in the new era the issue with today’s music is that having a good meaning and message is looked at as lame or corny and a lot of artists want to be toxic instead of making great quality music. Also a list without 2pac I don’t agree with at all but everybody is entitled to their own opinion.

I've been trying for the longest time to put my finger on what today's rappers look like, and he just nailed it. Tim Burton Batman villains.
He touched on something, how rappers flow with the beat. Thats like a lost art form, the way rappers used to deliver rhymes with more expression, matching their delivery to the beat. Almost all current rappers i hear, have that same monotone flow, dont go with the beat at all. You could play 5 different beats, they would rap in the same cadence to all of em. Trash.

I’m personally not crazy about Kanye either. He’s admitted that he has ghostwriters and most of his beats are sample-based.
He’s a great business man however but not the musical genius that he is so often praised to be.
