Oh, I love this technique! I've used the distress inks for a background, but not regular inks....I will definitely give this a try!! Thanks for sharing!!! 😀👍
That background is absolutely stunning! I was thinking about using some masking fluid on something like this but it just seems like such huge task to apply and remove.
It can be but I usually put on a movie and just go to town. I enjoy the process so that helps 😂 I also find it so much quicker doing it this way then colouring the background more tediously, making sure I don’t get any on the other areas so it kind of makes up for the time to apply the masking fluid. If that makes sense 😆
I need that book. I love kerby but haven’t colored any of his work on my channel. Thank u for sharing this video. I love watching people color so much 😊
Great video Hi Sarah. Thank you! This is amazing and so simple. New subscriber and just found your Insta page 😃 Is there any reason you use the colourless fluid rather than the slightly pigmented one? I'm about to order some and wondered if it made any difference.
Just got my set in and trying to do this , pretty disappointed my inks came dry and I didn’t realize and it’s been looking nothing like this it’s very hard to get the color on. I think I got a bad set:/ again yours turn out amazing!!!❤❤❤ trying to find other ink brands. I wanted to love these but when all 36 come dry I won’t be able to trust the brand again.
Oh no that’s not good! I would definitely return them for a refund. I’ve never had a problem with any I’ve bought over the years. Where did you order them from? If you would like to, you can send me a message in Instagram and I’ll see if I can help at all with any tips.
@@sarahcarabotcolours9517 I got them off Amazon so who knows if they control when they throw out old items. I don’t drive so that was my best way :/ the 12 packs which where 3 I got one of each and the price’s where 40-50-67 so where not cheap but definitely something wrong cause I barley get any pigment. My black when trying to blend out almost look like a dried green 🙊 so something definitely odd about it. My orange color had spotted mold on it. I appreciate that maybe I will reach out to ask about other ink pads cause tbh I got a bad taste in my mouth from the brand from all this/ amazon. I was so excited too cause they look amazing with the alien and the way you did it is stunning!🥰 I truly think maybe they where old or something but it’s nuts all 3 12 packs where all dry or with those mold spots. I went back on the reviews and a lot of people not all had the same issues so idk if it’s Amazon or the brand to blame. I appreciate your comment back I will reach out and see what other stamps will be good for backgrounds 💜
Hi Jan, I have never used them before to confirm 100% sorry. I have seen a few people do it with them after posting this and assume they used the same method.
If you wet the brush too much at the start and don’t blot it it will. It will also bleed through if you go really heavy handed with ink in one spot at a time. You can work in layers to avoid that. I tend to work in one spot using circles, move a little bit further out and once it’s dried a bit, go back into the spot with a second layer.
Love this and can’t wait to give it a try. I don’t have these inks but I do have all the colors by Tim H so I’m sure I can find something similar to your shades. I really liked your colchoices❤
Sorry for so many questions but what brand of masking fluid did you use? The kind of have does not come off as easily as yours did. As a matter of fact, it actually lifted my paper.
I use the Windsor and Newton colourless masking fluid. I have found if the masking fluid is old or has been sitting in the bottle not being used for ages it does rip the page. The composition seems to change over time. I also found doing thick layers rather than thin layers has helped a lot. You have to be really careful with the way you pull it off the paper. Keep it low to the page as you pull.
That is a really amazing background effect the pencil image really pops out.
Thank you 🤗
Thank you for taking the time to show the whole process. You’ve inspired me to give this technique a try!
You are so welcome!
Stunning
Thank you. I learned so much from this video.
Glad it was helpful!

Love this! What kind of masking fluid do you use?
Just the Windsor and Newton colourless one. Purely because that’s all I have access too where I live 😅 No special reason why :)
@@sarahcarabotcolours9517 thank you! I saw some for watercolors and some for acrylic and I wasn't sure which was the right one.
Great video

No, it’s just what is available to me in my town :) I’m impatient so didn’t want to wait for the tinted one 😅

Anyone else see an itty bitty spider running around the top-left corner of the page at 0:34?
I think it’s just a little bug, we live out in the bush and have lots of bugs hanging around when the lights are on :)
I used tim holtz before would those work?
