- Join us for another "Tech Corner" look at the newest innovation from Kato Japan - the HO E5 Shinkansen "Hayabusa", releasing December 2013!
The E5 "Hayabusa" (Falcon) utilizes Kato's latest technology, coreless power trucks, combined with free floating and tilting trucks to replicate Japan's latest bullet train's smooth motion and high speed operation.
The HO E5 uses kinematic car-to-car connections and has a recessed coupler system built into the nose just like the prototype model.

the nose coupler really blew my mind
can't believe they pay attention to even those tiny details
Kato, you guys make very nice products! But one thing that I and many others would like to see is an HO scale D51 steam locomotive with DCC and Sound. That would be a fascinating model as well as a hit!
Many thanks for the video.
The lines of this train match perfectly with Debussy's sonata for violin and piano.
That's a great shinkanse train. I have a few but on nscale congratulaton kato usa!!
Cool thing with the working coupler doors! I would love to see this on TGV or ICE 2/3 models as well.
The manuals that come with these are just in Japanese. The video is invaluable to know how this works. Thanks!
Gotta get my fill of Seaboard System, along with the daily Shinkansen.
Dad: What trains did you see son?
Son: Well i saw a short freight train pass by, and also a freakin high speed shinkansen
I chocked on my water reading this
Meanwhile ... it would be nice if Kato came with other H0 Shinkansen models as well to complete the lineup.
I like the speed and the violin
These need to be re-released. There haven't been many Ho Scale Shinkansens made in plastic and some of us missed the original run.
Would be nice if the E6 project would resurface with this.
Awesome
American background with Japanese bullet train... Perfect harmony!
I will buy it
I want it bro ;D
Good thing it nearly christmas
I'm eager to get my hands on an HO scale Shinkansen train.
Did you know that HO scale in Japan is 1/80 (it is in the Kato catalog) and in the rest of the world it is 1/87.
Same for N scale, in Japan is it 1/150 and in the rest of the world it is 1/160.
That is a fantastic set there. I am thinking of getting this set but I have some questions regarding DCC and Interior lights. As I like to run my trains in twilight model. Could you advise if this model has interior lights and also would this set be 8 pin DCC or the new 21 pin DCC? I hope Kato will consider making the JR West Series 700 "Hikari Railstar" and also Series 787 "Relay Tsubame" units. Its a welcomed HO scale Shinkansen as there is not many variants around and I like how the external coupling works too :).
Thanks in advance
Ash..
I have the HO version of this train by Kato. I wish they sold DCC "Powertuck" wheelsets so I could convert mine to DCC.
Great train. I have the N scale version. Too bad Katousa shows it running on a North American layout.
Unfortunately, a North American layout is all we have in our North American office :)

Does the N scale version also have the coupler at the front?
well,it's a perfect model
You guys think you’ll make an E6 in Ho scale anytime soon because I’d love to have that also
Any help / instructions for those of us wanting to convert these to DCC?
Like the way the nose cone/coupler retracts like the real train. The N scale set I have, you have to pop off the nose cone and hope you don't lose it. To run the set on DCC. Is the decoder a Kato board like the N scale?
How easy would it be to convert this to DCC? Since each wheelset has a separate independent motor, can wires be run through the body to slave both wheelsets to one DCC chip?
Hello from japan.
Kato?
When will the the be available in the us and price?
are you that gentle to the kato trains
But how does the coupler work!?!
Wah itu kato di amerika bagus
Why won't you guys make this in O scale?
Will we ever see another HO shinkansen?
I wondered about that too, and it almost doesn't seem like it. Kato offers very few Japanese trains in HO scale and it's been three years since they released this one.
I just bought these E5 sets and was thinking the E6 would be a good pairing. I can't find any other HO Shinkansen other than an old run of the original series.
I would love that. A series 500 Nozomi would be way cool! :)
IT's a bummer! But I'm happy to have what I have.
They jack the price up for us. Bummer..My E5 cost me around $1200.00... Would love to have the 500..thanks!
If I were to get one, how would I convert it to DCC?
Does N scale have that front coupling mechanism?
Yes it does.
Thanks for letting me know! Your models are the best
So still no way to make it dcc?
You can calm even more things H0 producing. ;)
The screen is glitching
where can i buy one like this please let me know
I think www.trainworld.com still has it. They did last time I checked which was a little bit ago.
thanks
Roberto Palafox Trainworld no longer has it.
But www.NewhallStation.com has one in stock.
bang beli di manah bang
Oo
How many of these were made
I'm afraid we don't know and in general we don't discuss production numbers anyway unless something was a special limited run.
Ah i see do they still ship these to the US
Mmmm debussy violin sonata(?)
Tom and Jerry?
