In the organ repertoire, there's organ music and then there's this ORGAN music! Open up your ears listeners, this is not for the fainthearted, but, I promise, you will get to love Messiaen's music, just as I have done. Please be patient! Thank you George.
8:10 One of my favourite passages in the whole work. Indescribable in words.
0:05 I. The majesty of Christ
5:32 II. Serene alleluias
10:58 III. Outbursts of joy
15:27 IV. Prayer of Christ

This is a cradle of my soul
Messiaen has taken organ music dissonance to the next level as only the French know how to do. Truly magnificent. It gives me goosebumps. Who is the organist that is performing this piece ?
🧡💗👌🌈 heard it today with new ears - very crispy and exactly performance, thx a lot!
thanks for this upload!!! very nice to have the score here.
Thank you for introducing me to this work! Still learning how to appreciate Messiaen

Good as the best
It makes me feel to listen the earliest Pink Floyd songs, until A Saucerful of Secrets
You accidentally provided the description of the orchestral version
That's not what I see
@@xontoast9386 Alleluia sur la trompette is a movement which had been composed for the orchestral version. The organ version has got a different third movement.
@Dax Lee I don't remember asking
Loved it... even though I kept thinking... "a tragic use of the swell pedal and more why not more interesting dynamics." Tech. rather good. Recording team. present. Great material. Remember, the composition is only the shadow of the "living thing." When you're in Love you know it>. .
Give yourself another 4.672% raise.... over the next....the next thousand years. Invest wisely. As ever, moi
Is it a coincidence that the four movements follow the major shades by joint degrees? E major, F major, F sharp major, G major?
I guess he alludes to the Ascension in every sense...
Thank you for noticing. Messiaen was very aware of symbolism in every aspect. French Cathedrals are filled with such "coincidences": "modern architects are ignorant of the first principles of mystical theology as embodied in [sacred medieval] buildings." (I'm quoting J.K. Huysmans, The Cathedral, 1898)
Fully believe there are no coincidences in Messian.
Anyone know the artist and the instrument? Both are wonderful!
who plays this rendition?
Who’s the organist? Latry?
I may be wrong (it's happened before), but it looks as if Messiaen wrote for an instrument on which the pedalboard didn't go above F4, and the 5th finger of the left hand has to take anything higher, i.e. G4.
Why do you think so? :)
@@Lalulalala824 By looking at the score, particularly "Prayer of Christ ascending" (the only one I'm familiar with), at, e.g., 8 measures past + Bourdon 16' G (why don't they have measure numbers?), where the pedal part "ascends" to F4 and then drops out when the left hand takes the G4.
Yes, that’s true.

Play piano but this can maybe overcome much piano, great organ

Messaien seems to hate Jesus.
Mikkis The man was as devout as one could be. It shocks me that you would make such an assumption.
@@brendanw.carter6218 I know that he was ver religious, but his music sounds like everything in bible was painful.
Mikkis His musical language is just different than what you’re probably used to hearing. Look up the Modes of Limited Transposition and that will hopefully shed some light onto his harmonic content and why it is fairly dissonant.
@@brendanw.carter6218 The point was that dissonance isn't maybe the best way to express your love of god and jesus.
Mikkis Why would you say that? What’s wrong with dissonances? It’s just not traditional tonal harmony that you’re used to hearing. There’s absolutely nothing wrong or “bad” about it.
