- Silt is the story of a diver who awakens chained underwater and surrounded by hostile sea monsters. In order to survive we must hack their minds and use these creatures to help clear a path out of the ocean depths. However the story is mysterious and cryptic. In this video we try to explain the story of SILT and what the ambigous ending means...

Something that I don't think got pointed out explicitly is that every time you deposit a Goliath's energy, the fractured industrial dimensions gets less fractured, which does support the idea that this machine may be repairing the world (or at least part of it) in some way
good point
I think that some of the "fox" statues might actually be deer. It would explain the antlers and the save symbol, which is a triangle with antlers. Some could also be jackalopes as there are some images of rabbits with antlers.
Deer? I'm having flashbacks to Spooky's house of jumpscares and Lost in Vivo. mainly the Deer God specimen. know what I mean?
@@DuelHearts out of topic, but yes...
All Hail Bayagototh and His Children !
You know that’s a mutation of a rare animal you know that?
just finished playing silt the flower that shoots exploding bacteria gave me a run for my money. For a full 12 minutes I thought I had to make it shoot at itself turns out I have to posses the bacteria but damnnn.
Skaven Grey Seers have Antlers, so my theory is it is a Skaven world that fell.
Maybe the “divers” are the fox-human hybrids finally being freed. The diving helmets are the same as the one on the statue.
Plus the angle that they hold their head seems a little weird for a human, since our heads aren't designed to be held at a right angle from our body
yea
If You look closer to the statue on 4:45, you can see that It has a fox mask and It is not a fox-human
So it's there is deep meaning about this game to us
the ones on the statue have horns though...or maybe it's just ceremonial.
Something that was weird, Why was the driver chained up inside the stomach is the sea monster? Could that have been another Goliath?
Most likely.
Maybe because the character we play as has done something wrong and has been punished by being tied up in the sea creature
@@nightwas punished by whom tho??
@@falcon6760 The masters, those fox like beings
@@nightwas unless it was the kind of situation where they put him inside the stomach of that monster, then immediately something happend which made them extict. It would be like that situation where u narrowly miss the end of the world cause ur in the bathroom
i’m loving all the unique indie horror games that are releasing lately! it’s such a breath of fresh air among all the titles in the gaming industry.
I'm just fascinated about SILT art design and little lore. And i wish there's more.
I always found that indie horror games seem to be better than big title ones beacuse the main thing you need for a horror game is a good idea, atmosphere, and a sense of dread, which is not that hard to do as a game dev
A theory of mine is that the guy you play as is actually a dead body and you are some sort of being that can only survive with a host and can change it’s body at any time but it seems to have bonded to the human. Like take for example in the beginning it’s just a lifeless body with no glow in the window but until you start moving the light turns on and it would also explain why you don’t need oxygen because your character is dead and you are just a being of light
That's pretty cool! You could also fit the theory that you're playing as a different diver, being replaced after they fed the machine with the goliath's light
I personally took it that you play as four different divers each one dying after you fuse with the tablet
But that may contradict with the ending, where there's only seen 1 white diver
I personally vibe with ManlyBadassHero's theory of the divers being supposedly mechanical in nature (and having several made and ditched in different spots) and they built as like sacrifices or working drones but I guess that doesn't cover the strange tree
Silt actually reminds me of another ocean based game, They Breathe. Maybe it's just how similar the endings of both games are, but there's also the themes of the earth being in ruin and submerged in water, with your main point of the game is destroying your destructive enemies to free your diver/frog brethren
There's also just something oddly horrifying about the creatures in between both of these games, like something just isn't quite right. The way the fox people are presented in silt just gives me the creeps but the parasitic jellyfish parading as brown moose using dead frogs in they breathe definitely takes the cake for being purely unsettling
Markiplier played they breath 😃
Does anyone else think that the fox people are wearing masks? I got this idea from the bird children in they tree, as it looks like bound humans with masks also not all of the statues are foxes but all the important ones are which I find very interesting I still think we can get so much more out of this and its truly exciting
Not just you. Pause at 4:38 and 4:48 and take a closer look at the statues. They have a strap holding the mask in place.
@@ivoryowl :O
The bird creatures are mutations from the sea as they are frowned open but they get rise in it
@@ivoryowl i noticed that too
Yeah me to there body's look humanoid
only a handful of people noticed but at around 4:48, where a screenshot of one of the fox/deer-like humanoid statues, it looks more like a mask than an actual part of the body. Some of the face can be seen, and theres even something of a strap that seems to go around the head.
True, and at @5:35
Would possibly partially explain those weird "birds" in that tree too?
I think the idea of "all these divers were made to harness energy/restore the world to how it was" is really plausible. Perhaps the entities that made this situation happen died out, but the directives they gave to those sentient divers lived on, and the one we play as just so happened to be the one to win in the end. Very interesting stuff!
I’m glad you went into an explanation of this game, which I really liked. I view the game as more of an art piece than a game because the ending was very lack luster to me it just wasn’t satisfying.
When I first saw the two statues in the energy/soul transfer room, they reminded me more of the Egyptian God Anubis than foxes. He is the jackal-headed god of the dead. Guess like an assistant to Osiris. Confusing stories aside, Anubis had a number of tasks assigned to him and one was judging souls. He weighed the deceased person's heart against a feather. If it was lighter against the feather, person went to the afterlife. Heavier hearts caused the souls to get destroyed, eaten by another god/monster.
Silt became a game about a soul being judged and slaying the Goliaths seemed to be the criteria in being judged. Drivers before the playable character all failed and hence "fed" to said Goliaths as punishment. It was the driver you play, is the one who passed the said Judgement and as a result, all the other lost souls are set free. The machine could easily be seen as The Judgement Scales that is entrusted to Anubis. So to me, it was soul trying to redeem itself. That was my interpretation anyway.
Mike could be spot on with unraveling the story behind Slit. I could also see it by battling your inner demons per say to better your emotional health as others have stated.
I love this interpretation, I can totally see it.
@@catboysephiroth560 O. Thank You. Thought it was just me.
I watched your play through of this when it was uploaded and I found the game weirdly peaceful? Maybe it's because Mike doesn't over react by screaming constantly like other horror game youtubers.

Thanks.
I truly cannot wait to watch this, but I'm at work right now haha. This game was so fascinating and I can't wait to watch your thought-provoking perception.
I really enjoy the animation style of his game.
I really like this Lovecraft like kind of stories ! Pretty similar to the whole Shoggoth/Elder Things shenanigans too !

It’s games like this that really inspire me to one day create something as mesmerizing
Ahhh nothing better than a good story from superhorrorbro
I just finished your playthrough on this game and see this just came out. Thanks so much
I love u superhorrorbro ur probs the only guy who could convince me to watch the scariest games (not a horror game player myself) and I still would love hearing ur calming voice.
I kinda feel like there may have been missed content here. When collecting all four of the divers souls there's also a statue holding 4 heads. Have you might of passed it, we may have seen something different. Although I may just be wrong but ye. Love ya vids
Your theories always make so much sense it’s fascinating !!
For games like this I often think about Junji Ito and how he makes his horror.
It has no deeper meaning.
It's not following any philosophy.
It's just by "wouldn't that be funked up n scary?"
When there's parts of a story but nothing gets explained I often think about that and smile knowing that sometimes bits of a story without explenation is far scarier than a whole fleshed out story.
You clearly didn't understand Junji Ito then, all of his pieces have a meaning behind it, it's not just "HEY wouldn't that be fked up?" It's more "HEY aren't the lives we live a little bit fked up already?"
@@Significantharrassment Really? I remember reading an interview of his once where he said that his works often don't have a deeper meaning and that he comes up with the stories by just thinking about mundane things that are taken to the extreme or scenarios that are a bit over the top turning dark.
My first language isn't english tho so I might've missunderstood
then again
Don't need to understand a thing to be a fan of it
@@thelittlemanian3027 well of course of course but it is better to understand the thing, there's a crap ton of CZcamsr who talked about Junji Ito works, I HEAVILY recommend you Talefoundry, he explained in detail the meaning of some of his stories, and Overly sarcastic production for HP. Lovecraft
I just recently finished playing Gris and this game reminds me so much of it. I tried to find out if they're made by the same people or not but, regardless, this game looks really cool!
I've been waiting for this one, it's been a while since I seen anybody played it and it has to be one of my favorites
Hasn't this only been released two days ago?
Omg i was waiting for your theory and you upload it.
I noticed that with the goliaths, the energy goes into the diver, but with the other divers the energy looks like it's going into the other diver before they disappear...I wonder if that means anything
Wow the art style of this game is pretty! I love the atmosphere it creates
I was thinking that the Divers were the fox people, maybe a soldier or worker class
Yay finally... I love this kind of videos
Another banger, as always
Great explanation Ty :)
So this is the dark lore of Sea Monkeys. Thought you just put them in water and they grew. Seems like they have a killer background. 😁
The aesthetic of this game makes me think of an interesting cross between Inside and Abzu. Seems like something I ought to check out when I get the chance!
Reminds me of lovecrafts “elder things”, they both had been driven to extinction (with some residing in the arctic), both were hyper advanced especially in bio technology, both are rare that created beings (like humans and shoggoths), and both are precursor races; maybe there’s a connection but this is just my opinion.
To me the story goes like this:
As humanity continued to improve their technology they found no life among the stars, and decided to genetically engineer animals on earth to be their companions. However, their companions ended up destroying them and as humanity’s machines died or were overtaken by nature new life evolved. The uplifted species used fossil fuels but couldn’t overcome climate change, leading to the flooding of the world. The greatest machines, still powered by humanity’s tech, became more animalistic to survive the new flooded world. Desperate, the uplifted species turned back to the largest machine to try and revive humanity to save them, combining what organic matter they could with the machine’s power to create the divers.
The lore and world build of this game is so cool~!! Kinda reminder me of Inside too-
Hey Mike maybe you should try to play I'm scared, I would like to see a story explained video from you about that game
I'm not much for horror but I just cannot stop watching your lore videos
pls do a monsters explained video, all the monsters and other sea creatures in Silt were so cool : )
I love how he just play the game two days ago and now he’s doing a story explaining.
Awesome and cool!
Nice video I like your theory video s
Anyone else get a "Shadow of the Colossus" vibe from this... like these creatures could be actually good and it turns out the player is the villain of this game
Waiting this for a while
I do have a theory but i don't know if it's true or not: The fox like gods once ruled over the world using divers as servants to collect the 4 goliath's souls all diver's failed to get the souls of the 4 goliath's except for the protagonist (Extra: The fox like gods we're trying to use the goliath's souls to escape while the goliath's tried to defend them selves from the diver's and the fox like god's the goliath's hidden them selves and attacking any diver's that pass nearby them or to harness their power)
Wow amazing story 😃😃😃
love this interpretation
omlll i just finshed watching the play thou ahhh
Yeah i was very confused when i watched your walkthrough video
Amazing video
When i saw your full playtrough i couldn't understand the story about the game. I checked more videos and i saw more reactions About it. still nothing. Thank you for making this video 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
We know less about the deep sea, perhaps there are Lovecraftian kaijus underneath.
Mike you should really look into playing They Breath. It’s really similar to this game with eerie underwater atmosphere and it’s a short play too.
You know Mike I wonder if there are other super horror bro's or if your the only one that is the only super horror bro because there can only be one.
Something I noticed in the room before you assimilate with the circles is how the art of the Goliaths seem to be a mesh of different mythical creatures from varying mythologies. I thought the snake one looked a lot like world serpent Auroboros or Jormungandr with how it wrapped around the earth and almost ate it's tail. The weird tree mesh with birds scattered through also looks strikingly like the Egyptian Tree of Life or maybe even the Norse Yggdrasil mixed with the Kraken (also from Norse mythology) although I'm not too sure about the others.
This explains a lot
Don’t know if it would count as a ‘horror’ game but could you do an ending explained on bugsnax?
ive been wating for one of thes
You are the best thank you for making my day a horror day 😎😈🤡☠️
I love these theories
Loved the game play
You should try playing rusty lake, it's a series of puzzle horror games that are really underrated and have a lot of lore.
Couldn't help but think the possession mechanic is a callback to Fox Spirits given the context of the video.
(I put this comment on the playthrough vid before I found this lore vid, so I'm reposting/recommenting it here as well. If you happened to have read it on the other vid, there's no difference so no need to go through it again.)
This was a really interesting game, it's a super cool concept and it was really pretty. I'm really interested in the [other] lore that'll be found or made up about this, and something I noticed, though it might not actually be accurate or it might have already been noticed, was that the main particles looked like a crescent moon, which was also on the top of a big tower in the cityscape and could have something to do with the (lore's) history or even a symbolic meaning (like how being that deep down and underwater plus being surrounded by old machinery and monstrous creatures is like being in an eternal night with/or the emptiness of an ancient abandoned world and that type of feel/deal), and pause, stop, and play button-looking ones (like those on DVD players or remotes for TVs, which also relates to the static-y sounds, kind of/maybe also the machinery, and mainly the possibility of that "soul" stuff being electricity, as SHBro mentioned at some point [in the playthrough video]).
(Apologies for how long this is.. again, clearly interested in the lore behind it... -It'd be cool to see some other ideas, if anyone is interested in sharing- )
Watched a whole gameplay! Would like to play myself
Something I just wanna point out is the fact that the first leviathan kinda looks like the king dark dragon in the Sky.
Is there like SHB merch? Like hoodies? I really want one just being comfy and all while watching scary playthroughs
This screams Shadow of the colossus to me, you should play that game is amazing!
I like this guy :)
another day another super horror bro theory.
Liked the demo, amazed by the release.
It’s so creepy but so cool
Do an analysis video on the resident evil 4 remake next and speculate how it's going to be!
Talking about deepsea horror, have you heard from Iron Lung? Is so creepy, I ope you can make a video about that game :)
high recommend rusty lake lore

I wonder if the goliaths were originally sent to gather the humans, but they realized they didn't need these masters and turned against them to drown them.
This was posted 4 hours ago? Wow! I'm late!
What if the 4 dead divers you collect throughout your journey may have possessed the 4 monsters you fight
I wanna see Game Theory's idea for this game's lore
If you like Silt, then I recommend a mobile game called Seashine. It takes place underwater and you play as a jellyfish just trying to survive as long as possible. And there is going to be a big update coming to it soon, idk when though lol.
This looks like it came from the same devs behind inside and limbo. If so then great, if not so then that’s insane how well polished it is
I don’t think you are the same diver. Each time the energy is consumed, I think that diver is done and you find another, seemingly random one in another area. So the divers are completely interchangeable with each other, none are special or unique.
When I saw the triangle I was like I wounder if this is the same dev as oxenfree as it would be a cool link if this was the deep ocean we see in that game.
I watched yu play SILT and i was so mystify of the SILT.
This game kinda gives me Lovecraft vibes!
This game was very interesting
It reminds me of the game Limbo. I wonder if that was the inspiration behind Silt?
so the basic summary of superhorrorbro mike's interpretation of silt it's 9 but underwater
This channel is game theory but wayyyyyyyyyyy darker
I personally feel like this game could have been so much better if it had cut out most of the story sections. They literally make up half the game, and if most of it had been replaced with gameplay sections it could have been so much better.
I I have a theory that might work, when you take the life force of the four guardians. You get teleported to the great machine for my question is how do you end up in this other cities or these other areas. I believe it’s when you move around in the Mac Depps of this machine like area you.move around more faster or you’re moving as well but more slower or faster and then. When you place the energy and you immediately teleport back to where your body is your body of moved through the ocean to the area that you were spawn in your spirits moved as well so I believe your body is moving twice or maybe more faster when you’re in that area where the machine is that’s my theory and thank you for reading if you are.

Do you have a video for the game White Shadows? I haven't finished it but I saw the ending online and am a bit confused as to what it all means.
