    I love this video!!!! Great story. I'm 55 I look back on my life every day especially my relationship with my dad & mom they are gone now and I know I put them through hell I did at least get to apologize to them before they died. So any of you that read this cherish every minute you have with your loved ones!! My brother died in my arms 7 years ago so life is fragile. Your word is all you have. My father told me when I was younger live up to your word do what you say. He was the one that got me started coin collecting everytime I buy a coin I think of him just be honest and truthful with everything you do. Thank you for this video.

    I fell in love with coin collecting in the early 90s and put together a collection that I was very proud of and happy with, but I fell victim to people I thought were my friends who were just thieves out to steal what I had worked so hard and spent a lot of hard-earned money on. These low lives ripped me off for a lot of money. What was so hard and hurt so much is they took what I had lovingly worked so hard to put together over YEARS because I fell for their con thinking they were friends. When I discovered what had been stolen from me it made me mad as hell, but even though I knew who had done it I had no proof, and killed the hobby for me. Everything I had left I sold to prevent that from happening again. When I moved to another state I found while unpacking some incomplete coin collections and tokens I had misplaced in whith other things. I have decided I will finish the Lincoln cent, Jefferson nickel & Canadian penny collections which I will tell no one about ever! When they are done that is it nothing else will I put together. Family will find them when I am dead and gone.

    • @Mrgrumpypants84
      @Mrgrumpypants84 Před rokem +2

      I would never give up on a hobby because low life people stole from me. Thats like riding the bus or walking everywhere the rest of my life because someone stole my car. I would simply learn a lesson and invest in a safe, stop showing everyone my valuable collection and so on. It is none of anyone business what i have, personally my coins are for me to enjoy and my son to benefit from when i am gone. I am sorry that happened to you but you cannot give up on things you enjoy or love because people are untrustworthy, Daniel can tell you I have reached out to him a few times ready to give it all up because being ripped off by ebay sellers or shady dealers. But instead i took my experience and made it a learning one. Dont ever let the fact people cant be trusted stop you from what you enjoy, instead learn and do it better next time. Best of luck with your completion of your collection and just learn from mistakes from the past. Buy a safe and dont trust just anyone to see what you have worked hard to collect. It is often those who share their valuables with the world that end up in these situations.

God bless you in the richest way...love for one another and Standing firm in Christ's faith. Blessings to you.

      I absolutely know how you feel. About six months after my son passed away obviously going through a lot of grief I discovered some old coins that I have. I started collecting again and it was therapeutic to help me get over the passing of my son.
      My daughter had an interest in coins too so it was great to do with her. While visiting my sister my nephew stole my Silver collection. So this piece of shit could do heroin. Frankly it ruined the hobby for me. Still have a few items actually quite a few. Hope you get on well take care, from a friend.

    @CoinHELPu -- Thank you Daniel for this message. The part you mentioned about making decisions with greed in your heart is something I have experienced and work to be mindful when greed does get into the picture. I've made plenty of mistakes, and you're right, what you do next is the critical step. Most of my mistakes did occur when greed got involved, and it took me a long time to learn. I've learned and am still learning to do apply the golden rule. You're inspiring brother. If coin collecting wasn't a hobby for me and something I love to just do--I'd open a shop and name it after you.

    Daniel, I wish more people would have your morals and ethics. I am 65 and all my life I have lived by the following code; "No Lying, Cheating, or Stealing". In life you can have everything taken from you except your integrity, you can only give that away, and nobody can take it from you. When I was a manager I told everyone that if they make mistakes no matter how big, they could be corrected. But, if you lie, cheat or steal, you were automatically fired. There is no way to correct dishonest behavior, your reputation and honesty were gone.

    I'm thought that all dealers were honest; when I first started in the hobby, I got skinned a few times. My grandfather used to say, "experience is a tough way to learn a lesson". This rung true with me the first few times that I was buying coins, it took 2 or 3 times, (fortunately, not very pricey lessons) to finally become a savvy consumer in the numismatic jungle!

    My father was a parole officer for over 20 years in sc” he barely made enough to pay our bills so my mom worked full time as well, this was about 1989, and he asked a career thief; why do you steal from others.
    The Thief’s response was surprising” If they have more than me than its ok”. I will leave it there with this. After the third time of my childhood home being broken into; coming home from school by myself while my parents worked well past 5, by myself with glass everywhere and running to get a neighbor to call the cops was… nothing was taken because we had nothing left to take….. Insurance deductible was not enough to even pay to fix the door so the power was cutoff the next month till my grandparent’s helped get it back on. Just because someone looks like they have more than you or assume insurance, does not mean that person has more than you. I believe cutting off the right hand of thief had more merit from the past than most would admit.

    It is true the acorn does not fall to far away from the tree. Your Dad as many Dads have instilled a trait that is very hard for some people to understand. HONESTY. Is it harder on your death bed to admit dishonesty or is it better to live a life of honesty. I think you choose wisely and decided on the right path. Your Dad had a lot to do with this choice. A great many people are glad he did. A Bible verse says it all. "Pride comes before the fall." Great parable my friend. Very very good.

    A long time friend of mine owns a pawn/gun shop and also sells many new guns and gear. He also buys gold and silver. An older gentleman came to his shop to sell his gold coins. So sad, they were these Cook Island 1/10 coins. He said that he paid $99 dollars each and now gold was up a bit in price he wanted to sell 2 of them. He was shocked and obviously that the coins had only $58 dollars worth of gold in them. I hope that he didn't have more in his cache. He found out the expensive way.

    I don't know about other shops, but in my shop I ALWAYS tell people what they have. When inheritance collections come in I don't take advantage of their ignorance. I know a lot of pawn shops and coin shops that do that, they spot a CC morgan and pretend like it isn't worth anything. It isn't just sellers that are dishonest. Even one of my best friend's owned a pawn shop used to brag about "oh check this out I got this from a guy that didn't know what he had." He doesn't own that pawn shop anymore from doing this kind of business. A lot of the sellers and buyers I get are pretty honest I usually can tell when someone is shady.

    • @DigitalViscosity
      @DigitalViscosity Před rokem +1

      Not to mention when I go to coin shows and talk among peers they people will sit there and brag about how they got something off someone for way less than the value, to me that is extremely dishonest, I always say something about how it isn't right. They justify it like "well they should've known what they had" which is true but we need to be better than that. However, if you inform the customer what they have and then they make a deal with me under the value that's different they had the ability to make the choice knowing the true worth.

You are doing awesome at what you are doing on here and we probably need more people out here looking out for other coin enthusiasts especially beginners who need a source or someone to go to they can trust and rely on telling the truth to what they have.. it’s great that we have you doing the checks and balances. You are one of the few that I know if I truly want to see if I have the coin I am looking for, it’s you who Are one of the people I would make sure to watch the video on the coin if you have one on that specific coin and error before I have it get ready to go towards the next step which is the coin dealer I know or have it ready to go to the Graders. Appreciate all the work. I might be calling you to see if I might be able to get an appraisal on a few coins some day soon. Great share by the way

    God bless you and your dad for not being fearful to stand up and tell one of your God stories. Your dad and you are rare men of faith who while telling this very sad story of a 92 year old man with a redeeming ending of repentance, you are revealing to us your faith in God story. I stand by you as a man of faith myself in a time in history when it is not so popular to do these things. Daniel, I think your impact on your audience is on more than your expertise on coins, but more importantly on being a man of faith called out by God to impact the lives of people like myself by showing us what it is like to walk with Jesus. I can never thank you and your dad enough for this life lesson. Thank you both!
    Onward in Jesus,
    Louis

    For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Pretty good words to live by.

    I have respecct for the 92 year old because he felt bad about what he did and wanted to use the money for good purposes to make up for it.

      Man... I'm so sorry for the loss of your Dad and the memories of him in those coins...I understand completely when you say it is not about the money, but about those particular coins regardless of their monetary value. God bless you!
