  • The very first Tyrrell F1 car ever made driven back in 1970 by triple World Champion Sir Jackie Stewart. This car laid the base for the first title for Tyrrell as a constructor in Formula 1 in 1971 with Stewart. We see and hear it starting and warming up the 430hp Cosworth V8 and race at Zandvoort and Spa Francorchamps.

It never ceases to amaze me just how small that era of F1 car was. With 400-450 hp, these were simply go-karts on steroids.

TYRRELL RACING, a mom and pop shop that won 3 world championships. Ken Tyrrell was a wonderful man working in his shop that was located in the backyard. Can't do that today. Notice the 3 pedals, bring back the manual gearbox, let us see who actually is the better driver.

I have an old programme from Brands Hatch for a race that I went to in 1971 which was supposed to celebrate Jackie Stewart's and Tyrrell's winning the world championship. Tragically Seppi Siffert was killed at the race. In the programme there is a list of the whole Tyrrell team. There are SIXTEEN people including Ken's wife, Norah. Nowadays there are hundreds of team members and the show isn't anything like as good. Something went wrong........

Tyrrell was a verry successful Team from 1971 to 1973 with Stewart and Cevert. The dead of Cevert in Watkins Glen 1973 changed the times for Tyrrell!

Funny, this 1970 Tyrrell must have known the last 1970 GP on the old Spa 14km course. The driver can feel it at the Combes, where the car has a tendency to take to the left and follow the old course, but then reluctantly obeys her master and veers to the right. The same must be true with the old 1970 Zandvoort. Wonderful car!

These cars are far more interesting than today's car's. There's so much mechanical diversity from car to car. Now it's " one size fits all" just to many restrictions in today's F-1.
