Payakan became my favourite character which he instantly got elevated to when he went full on kung-fu on the enemy boat/ship thing, I never knew I wanted to see a whale do kung-fu until I saw this movie.
Payakan was totally the MVP of that final showdown. If he didn't breach his way onto the ship's deck, a lot of things would've gone pretty different. It was also incredibly satisfying to watch him ricochet one explosive harpoon back onto the Sea Dragon -- and you can tell by how he moved that it was on purpose -- and baited the RDA for the second one only to grab its cable and take the little tugboat for a spin. "Who's got the harpoon now" indeed.
I mean come on I know he broke his kinds way but he really blame him for what he did those bastards killed his mother when he was a calf right in front of him he was just trying to make sure what happened to him wouldn’t happen to any other Tulkan
Payakan's ability to annihilate up the sea dragon ship and a whaling fleet singlehandedly while being a young tulkun just shows how easily tulkuns could wipe out any human threat if they actually fought back, but they've literally handicapped themselves by refusing to kill, even it if means the easily preventable massacre of their own kind.
Yeah...they could wipe out Humans on boats... Once humans realize that the Tulkuns are now fighting back... The humans while start hitting them in the Air 😁.
I think some of that prowess comes from what was discussed in the video. The fact that he survived and saw how the whalers do their thing, and used it against them. He wasn't just dangerous because of being an absolute unit and willing to fight, he was even more dangerous because he knew exactly what he was dealing with from experience. The deflection of and later catching the harpoon is a testament to that.
I wouldn’t say is species are a sheep I just think they’re ashamed of their violent past and he was the only one willing to put the past behind defend others
I swear I'm going to name my next pet Payakan. The movie makers need to give him a Jake Sully-like character arch! Jake Sully became an outcast of the Navi until he became Toruk Makto. Wouldn't it be great if Payakan will do something so great he will eventually become the Tulkun leader
And if not a clan leader (because if my memory doesn't fail me, tulkuns live under the guidance of a matriarch. The leader in their groups apparently is always female) at least a respected figure among their communities. When Jake became Toruk Makto he didn't immediately became Olo'Eyktan; Tsu'tey kept that position until he died. Maybe the same can happen to Payakan. At the very least he got "redeemed" in the eyes of their clan.
I personally think after what he did risking his life not only for the Reef people but to save the daughter of their leaders as well as the Sully’s kids I personally think he’s going to be redeemed in the eyes of the tribe and his own kind
I definitely agree, he had a good cause when it came to fighting back against the whalers, I think the whalers were so confident in hunting Tulkun's because the Tulkun's don't fight back in self defense, the death of the Tulkun mother and her calf could have been avoided if she did fight back against the whalers to protect her calf, in a way Payakan does show that sometimes the Tulkun Way doesn't fix the needless killings, fighting back is sometimes necessary to prevent more deaths when it came to the whalers.
He has to. And the Tulkun need to realise, it is not a crime to attack in self-defence and to protect your loved ones. Besides all those Tulkun whose deaths they blame Payakan for, would have died either way.
Spoiler alert: Payakan, whilst tearing apart the ship with the cable, pulled in Scoresby--the SeaDragon's captain--in to the water whilst said cable was ripping his arms off, Moby Dick/Ahab style.
Everytime a spear get pointed at Payakan, I felt like I'm gonna have a heart attack. Thank god dude's head was rock stone af where they shot that spear at him. Also come to think about it, the front of the Tulkuns looks like the graboids from Tremors
You could tell Payakan purposely baited the guy to fire the harpoons at him just to get backfired big time. First time, he ricochets it to explode on the Sea Dragon. Second time, he dodged that sucker so he could get the harpoon's cable.
I can sense how Payakan will make us cry in the next one, commiting some heroic act of sacrifice to save the heroes in the most epic way, like the legend he is.
I LOVE HIM! ❤😍 He’s my boy! Whalers found out what happens when they FIGHT BACK. My favorite character hands down. His and Lo’ak’s story is my favorite part of the movie.
Was I the only one who was confused by the fact that the whales could understand sign language? I mean seriously, how would they learn that? And even more confusing, the navi could understand the whales grunting?! That was some next level Disney singing animal crap!
Fun fact, Payakan is a young Tulkan and he is almost 100ft long, however he only weighs 15 tons. For comparison, whales on earth like a blue whale can reach 100ft and can weigh up to a colossal 200 tons! So it looks like Payakan is very lightweight for his size and gives him the advantage to jump out of water easily.
I feel like Payakan will make his sorta own tribe of Tulkun ones that are not scared to fight back…I can see many Tulkun coming to back him up in the next movie
Payakan was definitely one of my favorite characters although I feel like still nobody gave him enough credit except Lo’ak by the end of the movie (even though the other kids did help him in not getting hunted down). I mean maybe they did and we just don’t see it but hopefully others understand him more now that he was fighting for and with the Navi. Also I’m nervous that Payakan will probably not show up in the third movie (how Toruk disappeared in this sequel from the first movie) which like… I guess the story has to move on where he might not be needed but I really need to see more of his friendship with Lo’ak
You can basically say Payakan is Pandora ocean's Moby Dick who also single handedly beat and destroy larger whaling ships then himself during his lifetime.
I’ve seen so many documentaries about orcas and Whales in general that I could compare the Payakan with the sea world polemic whale captures and the name of one of the whales in sea world Tilikum Is it too much the comparison ? They say whales are very emotional creatures and if I’m not mistaking, in New Zealand they are known as spiritual animals ♥️
Interesting James Cameron Tulkun/Tulken whale like creatures....it's name is striking familiar to Tilikum the Orca who thankfully NO LONGER resides at Sea World!! If you look at the body structure Humpback Thing protruding from face Manta Ray Smarts, pods, helpful etc. similar to dolphins and whales Way to be Creative Cameron!!🐳🐋🐬
Mediocre story and plot... I wouldn't go that far. Is much better and has a stronger message than the vast majority of the movies being made nowadays. When I saw it the theater was packed, and everyone seemed pretty satisfied and touched when the credits started to roll. Clichés... I kinda agree on that one, although I would say that the clichés in this one are not as notorious as in the 2009 film. Visual delight... Of course. They managed to do what I thought was impossible and greatly improved what they had done in the first movie.

Payakun is only a juvenile, and he's already over 100 feet long?! Imagine how big he'll get if he reaches his adult stage in his life cycle.
I love Avatar especially Pandora 😍
Whales yeah
“The giant ship is sinking”
Staff: Any dramatic cut ?

Just FYI the "shark like creature" is an Akula which is basically the thanator of the sea.

I believe that the Tulkun is related to the hammerhead titanothere and sturmbeast.
Like on earth, whales are related to hippos. 😂😂😂😂 weird, but true.
Im glad I’m not the only one who noticed. They definitely are supposed to be like whales and therefore must’ve gone through a similar evolution
The fact Payakan is still considered a young Tulkun but is an absolute tank of a creature imagine when he’s fully grown

Yes but Pandora has low gravity so unless you weigh Payakan back on Earth we don't have an accurate weight for him.
