The reason The Queen was telling the other xenomorphs to let Ripley & Newt leave was Ripley nonverbally communicated to The Queen that she was going to set her babies ablaze if they attacked. I completely agree. @@EternalRoman Too bad the extended cut also overexposes LV426 at the beginning, ruining the tension of not knowing what Ripley and the marines will find there (yeah yeah we all guessed it would be aliens - it's in the title - but guessing and knowing are not the same thing). Leaving Ripley's point of view for those early LV426 scenes also mars the style a little bit. James Cameron did the same mistake with T2 Extended Cut: some additions were nice, others are worse than superfluous.

Bill Paxton, first guy to be killed by a Terminator, Predator, and a Xenomorph...
Vasquez, the actress in this is the same actress who played the Irish mother in Titanic who reads stories to her kids as they accept their fate.
She also played John Connor's foster mother in Terminator 2 :D
The dropship was made of found-parts from an Air-Fix kit of various airplanes, they then replicated it in large scale for the actors to interact with... and the troop carrier was a real vehicle, it was one of those towing trucks they use to pull airplanes around, they added some wooden panel bits for armour and that gun on the front.
All the outside scenes were miniatures and rear-projection footage of the miniatures, made by the same special effects guys who did the miniatures for the Kevin Bacon movie "Tremors" (great movie).
The rear projection Cameron used is kind of a prototype practice run that he mastered for Terminator 2's future war at the start of the movie when they filmed miniatures and stop motion, and rear-projected the footage on a huge backlit screen on an enormous set... and filmed it all in-camera.
They made the movie with only 6 Xenomorph suits too :D
Cameron saved budget on suits by filming 6 stuntmen in costumes from weird angles, and used editing tricks to make it seem like there were hundreds of aliens.
And most of the marines were ex-military who had turned to stuntmen/women in the industry. It gave authenticity to them as soldiers, and meant that they could also be thrown around because they were basically a stunt team in tertiary roles.
    ---
Watch Alien 3 though... and make sure it's the extended cut :)
The theatrical cut is a totally different movie, and kinda crappy because it was cut and edited by the studio.
Think of Alien 3 as probably the first example of studio interference creating a Justice League situation...... with the extended cut being the longer, better, movie.
    Edit:
OH! WHen they kill that first chest burster, and the aliens all come out of the walls....... listen to the background squeal when they flamethrower that chest burster...
That scream/squeal, is the Queen. She's squealing to let her warriors that something's afoot and to defend the nest.
That's how close the marines were to the Queen, they were literally in the nest when they decided to open fire.
Crazy to think we actually got the Queen's introduction near the start of the movie, and didn't really realise it.

It wasnt so much that Burke knew about the Xenomorphs, because he actually didnt until they got there and saw them. What happened was that in the beginning of the movie, there was a short timeskip between Ripley waking up and having the meeting with the board of directors, and Burke and Gorman visiting her at her apartment. During that short timeskip, Burke sent the order to the colonists to go investigate Ripleys claims of the crashed ship and the Alien eggs, lost contact with them, and thats when he visited Ripley.

Same with the power loders - they can't actually build articulated robots like that (side eye @ Boston Dynamics) well not yet, in 1982, they got by with two stunt guys strapped back to back in a harness. One operating the legs the other the arms.
But like all the very best special effects pre CGI it's all accomplished with shot selection, editing, miniatures and is so seamless you don't even notice.

A lot of people will maybe tell you to skip Alien3, but in spite of its flaws, I think it’s worth seeing. The story is darker, it’s directed by David Fincher, the soundtrack and cinematography are noteworthy, and IMO the performances by Charles Dance and Charles S. Dutton are worth the price of admission.

Two things people never notice you need to be smart to realize it. First there is a reason why Burk says he works for the company but that he is an ok guy. That is to show that its a dream sequence already. He would not know about Ripley's distain for the company. Second one is in the dropship. The reason why Hicks is asleep. That is to show that he is a veteran. While the dude in charge have that fear look on his face Hicks is as calm and asleep like he done this a million times. Alot of nuances people miss throughout the movie.

A great reaction as always guys. Unfortunately, I'm old enough to remember going to see this at the pictures over here in that little island off the coast of Europe called Britain 😃😃 It's the only time I ever stood and applauded at the end of a movie, and you guys were absolutely right to watch the theatrical cut first. Its more tense, and the extended cut gives a lot of spoilers away near the beginning. The only advantage the extended version has is that it shows Ripley grieving over the loss of her daughter - which explains why she got so attached to Newt, but what a movie!!!

    • @DeRockMedia

Yeah I saw it when it came out to.I always remember the scene when Michael Biehn climbs onto the table to look into the suspended ceiling and sees the aliens crawling through, brought a massive gasp from the audience. This should have been when the franchise ended.Alien and Aliens couldn’t be bettered.Alien 3 was such a massive let down when I saw it in 92.Seems to be the same with so many franchises.Terminator is another example.First two classics, after that forget it.Same with Alien/Aliens.

For me, I prefer the extended version if only for the scene about Ripley's kid and the auto-turret defense scene - those two scenes added so much to the movie. I know the earlier scene of Newt's parents going and investigating the derelict ship is hit or miss for some people but I loved it.

You know what I love about this movie... I love that they don't have infinte bullet counts. I love that they actually used a welding helmet to weld. I love that the characters aren't instantly people they try to force us to relate to with ... I don't know, some kid back home or some backstory... the side characters are kind of assholes and allowed to be.And I love that people get injured and have to stop fighting... because holy shit, you're INJURED. Also I love the computer systems and tech... this stuff looks like the kind of stuff we probably would have in the future. Minimal, back to basic industral, computer systems that use as little power as possible, old spaceships that likely have been cobbled together from spare parts to save money. Even a brand new terraforming facility is just barebones metal grates and practicality... they're not looking for asthetic beauty here. That comes later with the rich assholes who move in.
Sci fi needs to remember this shit.

My dislikes of this movie, the alien warriors look cheap compared to the original. Ripley tells the marines that they can’t help their buddies, but has no issue rushing into the nest ALONE, to get Newt. The facehugger has to struggle through slime, mucus whatever, to give Ripley time to save Newt. How the eff did the Queen squeeze into the landing gear? How did her acid not burn through the landing gear compartment?
    Still a great sci-fi thriller.

To me, the main issue with the Special Edition is the beginning scenes with the colonists. We all know this film is about xenomorphs but why give that away right at the beginning instead of allowing the audience to discover things along with the characters? I'm guessing Cameron wanted to tie it into the original film right off the bat for the audience or something? Soi, yeah, the Theatrical Cut to me is the way to go for the first viewing.
