    my Boxster has had these mods on the car for two years, stainless steel headers, K&N filter, running a 996 74mm throttle body and plenum, large intake pipe from airbox to throttle body, de- snorkeled and bypass mod done to stock exhaust, finally a standard flash for the ECU :) love it

    You should include a parts list with links, and a running tally of what the modifications have cost for the whole project.

    Maybe you could overlap the graphs and pause for a second or have a table with the power from each mod

  • @accordv6er

    MAF tube and intake manifold are the limitation on the 3.2. and headers of course. If you're moving enough air to start maxing the OEM ECUs ability you'll have issues with MAF scale and the larger TB. MAF tube is in front of the TB... You'll start hitting the max airflow if you're doing everything else right. These motors should make 305-315 at the tires when full bolt on... And they don't... Which means most people are missing the key components of intake manifold and MAF tube. Which I know why, it gets difficult to make changes on the ME 5.x to change MAF tube size... Solution? Run a factory 996 3.4 ROW flash. It will make another 20-30 HP over even a tuned 986S file.

      @briansturgill5905 Před rokem +2

      Agreed. My 2.5 is 2.9 making 305 with my mods. Kicked in vario cams early at 4600. Those VR tunes are garbage cookie cutter. Open them up in Win OLS they look like a child did the checksum.

    • @airforce66
      @airforce66 Před 9 měsíci

      Would you need a 996 3.4 VIN to do that?

    • @HORUS9
      @HORUS9 Před 8 měsíci

      +Hi Friend, Can the same advice be applied to a 2005 boxster s with the 3.2?

    • @accordv6er
      @accordv6er Před 16 dny +1

      @@HORUS9yessir especially a 3.2 986. However the later 986 has a different ECU, so I don't know about tuning/ECU limitations as much. As far as I now for all M96 though, 3.2 intake MANIFOLD/exhaust is total crap, and MAF tube is tiny. Most people only address exhaust and airbox. The throttle body/plenum are between two bottlenecks, doesn't do crap. The car I'm referencing is a 3.2 turned 3.8. Ran ok but factory tune put down 272, which is right on the edge of what any bolt on 986 will ever make. Where as a 3.4 with bolt ons (not including the nice pistons/bottom end in the 3.8) will make over 300. So either go standalone and ditch the MAF tube on speed density, or use a 3.4 ROW ROM as a start and use the larger MAF tube (get a straight one from a BMW with the honeycomb collimator to fit the MAF sensor. I think they're off a 540i or something. Also I think 911 runs slightly* higher base pressure

    It has been constantly proven that the IDP plenum does almost nothing to increase hp. It’s just a shiny piece of aluminum that’s is nice to look at. It is laughable to pay $700 for a 2-4hp gain.

    So m97?
    I don't know if the chain guides are any different to the m96.
    Cam chain guides wear and break so early on these. Pushing further than 7 would in my mind break them sooner. This will cause cam deviation.
    You didn't show the graph or mention when power drops off.
