I had no idea Roy was crazy visual beyond glam back then but I LOVED TRex and all those bands with their high pitched near shreiking. It reached something heretofore unknown. That Jeff Lynne got his start here is no surprise. Such a wonderful time in rock music:

Roy Wood vs Jeff Lynne - the race for the perfect 70s symphonic pop template. Roy struck first and with great aplomb but somehow Jeff took the crown. Lennon and McCartney at least stuck it out for 10 years. If only...

You know the backstory yeah? He and Jeff L were always competing for control. And I agree, it’s hard to judge comparatively. Jeff L actually announced on a pommy “Bandstand” of sorts in 1972 that Roy W wouldn’t be required for their impending USA (world) tour.. Cold ? Maybe. Personally I think ELO were brilliant and it’s hard not to rock when you hear the 2 big Wizzard tracks. I have wondered over the years what they could’ve created had they came to an understanding

There is no point to songs like this anymore , modern songs do not need introduction (intro), verse, pre-chorus, chorus, verse, pre-chorus, chorus, bridge, and chorus.
