    I went to that cat sanctuary when I was in Rome about 6 years ago! I’m so glad to hear it’s still up and running. I was backpacking Europe and was missing my cats at home so this did the trick. I spent probably way too long petting all the cats and almost crying the entire time 😹

    Trastevere is so beautiful! That's the hood I stayed in while in Rome. I'm chuckling as you guys keep mentioning how "crowded" it is in Rome, but you guys actually are there at a great time - shoulder season. So just multiply what you see there by 4 or 5, or 10, and that's Rome in the summer! LOL.

    For our honeymoon, my husband and I took a Mediterranean cruise. It was absolutely amazing, and we decided to extend our stay when we returned by one day so that we could see Rome. We used the Metro to get to all the hotspots, seeing the Mouth of Truth, the Forum, Colosseum, we are gelato on the Spanish Steps at sunset, and got to see the Trevi Fountain lit up at night. Best trip ever! Our flight back want until Murray the next day, so we spent a few hours in St. Peter's Basilica and the Vatican City Museum, which took us to the Sistine Chapel 😍

    Yep , agree about the starlings. Rome is such an incredible city, so many facets to it. My husband and I had a 5 day visit in February a few tears back. We stayed in a cheap but very good 3* hotel within a very easy 10 minute bus ride to the centre. It was a lot cooler than other times of the year, but it was much warmer than the UK at that time of the year and the main visitor attractions were a lot less busy. We spent a whole day wandering around the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. So much history! Rome also has so much good food. If you do your research beforehand (Trip Advisor etc.), it’s really easy to walk a short way from all the the touristy centres to more authentic places to find good and cheap restaurants. We also spent a whole day in the Vatican Museums (tip...avoid the hawkers offering tickets, just go and buy your tickets direct at the museum on the day out of season).
    Our best meal was a very short walk from St Peter’s Square in a street in the Borgio. Really good food, and just far enough down the street to be off the tourist trap. The owner claimed the saffron and zucchini based pasta dish I ordered was one of Pope Benedict’s favourites before he became the Pope, and I believed her. It’s the area where he had lived before he was elected Pope and she hadn’t inflated the price. For such a lovely dish, it was a real bargain.

    I was in Rome a few years ago. It was mid December, and the weather was great. Pretty much like what you guys seem to be having in this video. And it was still really busy too. We went several times to a little restaurant, which was so very cosy, and the staff were super friendly. It's called 'La fontana di Venere'. It's close to the Trevi fountain, but very much tucked away in a side street. I highly recommend it to anyone who goes to Rome. I had the carbonara pasta there too actually. And you're right, it's a complete meal, I certainly could not eat anything else after that, haha. We did end off with some house made limoncello though, yum yum :)

      Yes. Starlings come with civilization. They like cities. Sadly, they run the native birds out of their home territory. You'll almost never see a murmuration of starlings over a town with a population under +/- 30,000 people.

What was your favourite part? We liked the Colosseum, but thought the Forum was a lot better (which we didn't expect). Our favourite thing was walking the streets and seeing where the old meets the new. There were heaps of places with new flats built on top of ancient ruins. We really want to go back some time because we've definitely left a piece of our hearts there ❤️ I hope you guys get a chance in the future to spend a bit more time in Rome! 🇮🇹

    You guys really need an Italian to teach you how to eat pasta.

    • @bartonone2005
      @bartonone2005 Před 4 lety +4

      Long strands of pasta, like spaghetti, are always served with a tablespoon and a fork. You pick up a mouthful of pasta with the fork in your right hand and twirl it against the bowl side of the tablespoon, forming a compact ball of pasta which you neatly consume. That is the etiquette of eating this type of pasta in Italy. Biting off the strands of pasta hanging from your mouth is considered "mala figura" or "bad figure" in Italy. The closest concept to this in the US is "that is simply not don." Most Italians would not be rude enough to correct you but it would diminish their impression of you.

    I have spend a week at a time a couple times in Rome and I'd still go back to see more. I'd also like more time in Venice, a week was not long enough there.

    You two are lucky! When I went to Rome a few years back I went in May and it was soooo packed!! I really didn’t enjoy it for long because it was too many people! Also, there was 4 weddings going on!
