The Dark Truth Behind Their Success

- Behind some of anime’s biggest hits lies a disturbing truth. Mappa Studio rocketed to fame animating smash hits like Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man. But while churning out popular series, a culture of overwork and exploitation festered. Unpaid overtime spiraling into the hundreds of hours. Impossible deadlines. Allegations of restrictive NDAs to keep staff silent. It all started with legendary producer Masao Maruyama.

Holy crap the production value you have from such a low subscriber count on top of the the amount of effort in showing sources and explaining the topic to keep the viewers attention is phenomenal.
I appreciate your kind words. I will try my hardest to increase it even more. Thanks for watching
I agree.......hell I was surprised! Great work, pretty much what he has to do and keep improving if he doesn't want to maintain his subscriber count.
His production Value is high because he is working for Mappa
Really good analysis about the studio. If you want, there are also more examples from a channel called mankoman. He has some community posts for every week jjk s2 aired and could allow a more thorough analysis into why things happened as they did for the show
Thank you for the kind words. I will check him out for sure
I actually thought your channel had way more subscribers with the level of production value in this vid! Honestly really good. Keep going man!
Thank you. I really appreciate it. I’ll try to make the next one even better.
This is your first video so im gonna give you some feedback , i know it was kinda intentional but i think you have to speak a bit louder , other than thst phenomenal video
Yes I appreciate any feedback. I will continue to do better and be better. I encourage you to come back when another video is posted to see if the issue is gone. I guarantee it will be.

Nice video, I caught myself rewinding a few times though as I couldn't understand what you were saying, sort of mumbling. Work on that and you'll be gold
Sorry about that. I was still learning how to audio grade so there were some unforeseen issues. They are fixed now though. You can check out my next video as proof. Also thank you for watching and even rewatching to understand. I appreciate it.

Yes. I have a few videos planned out. I can’t say what it will be on but it will be better than this one.
@@TheDarkCompanyy looking forward to them!
The next video is out now: czcams.com/video/BPxQe9z01LI/video.htmlsi=AvPmFtQ0n8Rrnfcd
Not sure why you show a photo of Tomino while discussing Mushi Pro embezzlement. I believe that was Yoshinobu Nishizaki, who would go on to produce Space Battleship Yamato.
I will look into this. Thank you for watching
Just some nitpicks about inconsistent pacing of the audio in the middle also the schedule shown at 10:48 looks like of a mangaka's
Yes. There are some issues with this video. I apologize and promise to do better. Consider checking out my latest one on the untold truth of Pokémon. Let me know if that one’s better.
You should include the subject's name (the company or person) in the title, so it would be easier to search. Also your chapter titles have quite many obvious typos (3:15 WITH A IDEAS instead of WITH IDEAS; 7:59 HERE instead of HE etc.). Also would be nice to have the chapters marked in video timeline. Some of the articles/news titles go by a bit too fast to read (12:10 for example). Otherwise nice job.
Thank you for the positive feedback. I appreciate it.
Why does it fade on and off
I apologize. There were some issues with the audio. I will do better next time. Thank you for watching!

@@TheDarkCompanyy ayy I got that far in cos your video was well-researched and well-written. Great work my dude 🙏
@@kazene5235 Thank you. I really appreciate it.
Ok, first Murayama has been with MADHOUSE from 1972 till June 2011, that's bit more than 7 years my guy. Second, Tezuka re-established Mushi into Tezuka Production. Third, Murayama didn't just leave MAPPA for no reason. In his eyes it was becoming another MADHOUSE and so he decided to leave. Doing so resulted in an exodus of talented staff. Several high profile directors like Hiroko Utsumi, Sayo Yamamoto and Shinichiro Watanabe did NOT come back to MAPPA due to Murayama's departure. Finally here's a little lesson on how the shows at MAPPA are produced.
The studio has several production pipe-lines that are headed by different producers. The main three are the Seshimo Line, the Hayashi line and the Ogawa Line. Each has different directors, animation directors and animation teams. Often times separate from each other or sometimes shared. Each line has certain show and certain deadline to produce the show before broadcast. Here's the kicker, the Hayashi line were basically shoved the AOT animation responsibilities with less than 12 months of production time. They suffered but eventually by some miracle got it over the finish line. The Ogawa line often get the low profile shows so production issues are somewhat manageable.
The real issue comes with the Seshimo line. They were given the JJK adaptation. The first season wasn't relatively terrible due to the fact they had, Sunghoo Park as director. The man is a monster of a director and animator, animating majority of the action sequences in JJK S1 and Movie 0 himself. That gave Otsuka enough confidence to put Park as director of Movie 0. But Otsuka being the greedy little bastard he is bought the ENTIRE animation rights to Chainsaw Man, while still on contract to produce JJK S2. You see where this is going, right?
This same Seshimo production line had only a couple of months to produce JJK 0, right after S1 and then CSM and then immediately JJK S2 with NO breaks. This IS what has resulted in the current situation. Despite having an amazing director (who left by the way) replacing that director with another great director, an all-star line up of animators (most are freelancers), the production was still falling apart if not for the efforts of whatever was left of the team. Poor management, terrible planning and Otsuka's greed has resulted in MAPPA being in this situation. Unfortunately with CSM movie coming up, I don't see this situation changing anytime soon.
Love the video btw. If you want to do even more deeper research I recommend checking out SakugaBlog. It goes a lot more in depth in anime production. Subscribing to see more content like this, good luck.
Thank you for this. The last thing I want to do is spread misinformation. Going forward I will look over my sources more thoroughly. Thank you for your kind words also. I will do better from now on.
