  • Diagnosing trauma and stress-related disorders involves identifying psychological and emotional responses to exposure to traumatic or stressful events. These disorders include post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), acute stress disorder, and adjustment disorders. Symptoms may include intrusive memories, flashbacks, nightmares, avoidance of reminders of the trauma, negative changes in mood and cognition, heightened arousal, and difficulty with emotional regulation. Genetic factors may predispose individuals to these disorders, while environmental stressors, such as abuse, violence, or natural disasters, can trigger or exacerbate symptoms. Individuals with trauma and stress-related disorders often experience significant distress and impairment in daily functioning, impacting various aspects of their lives. Treatment typically involves a combination of medication, such as antidepressants or anti-anxiety agents, and psychotherapy, particularly trauma-focused therapies like cognitive processing therapy (CPT) or eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR). Early recognition and intervention are crucial for preventing chronicity and promoting recovery. Understanding the diagnostic criteria outlined in the DSM-5 and employing evidence-based assessment tools are essential for accurate diagnosis and effective management of trauma and stress-related disorders.

Thank you so much for your kind words! I’m really glad you found the video informative. I don’t have a video on PTSD vs. Depression, ADHD, and other disorders with overlapping symptoms just yet, but I’m always open to creating lectures on topics that people are interested in. I’ll definitely add that one to my list! Stay tuned, and thanks again for the suggestion!
