The perfect tool for the metal artist. MIG can be used for structural welds, surface textures and linear patterns. You can take classes with Cindy DeCecco at Yavapai College in beautiful Prescott, Arizona.
you know what? i had to watch many many videos on welding from tradies, i learned so much but still had no idea what type of welding i wanted to use. i watched this one video on welding from an artist and im sold. thanks !!!!
This is one of the best instructional videos I think I've come across lately. The pace is perfect. I'm not on 1.75 playback speed trying to skip ahead constantly. The information is succinct and thorough. Wish you would make a video teaching people how to teach. 100% would watch.
I'm not a welder, but compared to the big majority of people making videos out there, you are very clear and professional and concise. don't understand why some of these comments are so negative.
Very informative, and your work is beautiful.. I'm a beginner, and I will be welding on a 1928 Model A Ford Roadster.. All the welds will be covered up, but the old car itself is a piece of art.. Thanks so much for your video!!
Thank You SO much for this video! I started MIG welding 2 years ago during a tough period in my life, I needed something to keep my mind off of things. I started welding silverware into art. Small beginnings, but lots of fun! I never knew the fun artistic ways to use the weld.. I am going to put this to practice and perhaps get out of the silverware art for a while.. try something new! I can't afford classes so this was VERY helpful for an adult on a budget that wants to create!! Thank you!
Once I finish with my welding courses I might give this a try. It certainly looks fun. I've already bought an everlast stick welder but now I wonder if I should have bought one of their mig units that can stick weld too??
You can never have too many welders! LOL. A MIG/TIG/Stick welder is a good investment I think. I have one of Everlast's MTS units myself and I find it pretty versatile.
Know what.. Its so great to have women in welding cuz most companies hire welder who are more focus and more details. Most women do and more care on projects than men. I believe that women should be equal as men in any job positions. By the way, I am impressed with this welding art. way to go :)
Welding since I was 13 and I use both techniques, it depends on what you are trying to do aesthetically and functionally, and the relative thickness/purity of the base material.
Hi Cindy, SCFH is Standard Cubic Feet per Hour, not Square Cubic Feet per Hour. It refers to the flow rate of the gas at 60 degrees Fahrenheit and about 14.7 psi, which is pretty close to the conditions in a comfortable shop.
maestrocheck, it won't let me reply to your comment, globular makes a lot of spatter, basically turns the wire in to globules of molten metal and throws them at the puddle so pretty messy, and anything that could be welded in globular transfer could be welded better in spray transfer, best thing you can do to understand is have ago, you'll need a pretty big mig welder, 210-250amps minimum, full power with 95/5 gas will be spray with the right wire speed, drop a few volts and it'll be globular.
Thanks for the method of making wiskers with the mig wire. Not that it mattters but SCFH for the shielding gas flow is 'Standard' cubic feet per hour, not Square cubic feet per hour.
Black scale on the flowmeter is liters per minute, not hour :) Love the spine trick! @9:00 the weld looks rather poor. Have doubts it's structurally sound (since that was the intent).
How come you call it MIG-welding. The shielding gas with 25% CO2 is NOT inert but is an active gas. Should then be called by it's correct name MAG-welding. Great description of the safety gear. Really important.
Don't be silly, of course you can touch and rest the gas nozzle on the work piece and weld, most professional welders do this when they are tacking parts together it makes it easier. As long as the tip is not shorted across to the nozzle by spatter etc then nothing can happen. Many amateurs who drag the weld often rest and guide the gas nozzle direct on the work piece - is a common technique, especially with a fillet or lap joint.
i dont see the need to drain the hose of argon after use as its an inert gas and the bottle is off anyway if you were going to do this then you would zero the wire feed to save wasting wire or leaving a long length sticking out nice spine trick a really good weld trick is what i call a black hole galaxy, as you do a really hot weld on sheet steel remove the earth but keep the wire feed going, this allows the wire to pass through the fresh weld staying intact rather than melting.
where there is proper transfer in this video it is dip transfer also known as short circuit, spray transfer is very different to dip transfer, it makes a smooth buzz/hum and no or almost no spatter, when you get into spray transfer you'll know ;) between dip and spray transfer you get globular transfer, which should be avoided.
Completely wrong to turn the main valve several turns. If there is a fire it should be quick to turn off all gas bottles. Full pressure is obtained at a half-turn.
First off let me say that this is for ARTISTIC welding not STRUCTURAL welding. So the welds will not be as uniform as someone welding as a career. Secondly, many women are great welders and all my instructors will say the same thing, there are many women ironworkers. You don't need a penis to weld. Thirdly, my only criticism about this is that you should NEVER wear a jacket that has a zipper while you are welding, one glob of splatter and you have to cut your jacket off yourself.
+trailerpark187 welder doesn't look like it is setup correctly. I always do test runs with my everlast before welding to be sure everything is set up correctly. I love the artwork at the end but wished there was more fabrication in this video.
please do not talk about structural welds till you at least learn to make them yourself, that last weld the "structural weld" was a poor example of a mig weld, it's very dangerous to give advise on things you do not fully understand. also the shroud should have an insulator between it and the contact tip, the shroud should not be live, if it is on your machine you should look into why and get it sorted out, it's usually as simple as cleaning out the spatter but some times a new shroud is needed.
Please, please get the welding terminology right - you are MAG welding not MIG welding and short arc is only one of several types of MAG transfer. You make welder cringe.
Nope, you could maybe refer to CO2 as a semi inert gas, but an argon CO2 mix is a MAG GAS.. Even though the Argon/low CO2 mix used for stainless might be considered inert, the regular mixes between 4-25%CO2 is definitely considered active. Argon and helium and mixes between the two are inert gases even though helium helps raising the temperature in the weld. Think of TIG welding, that wouldn't work with a carbon dioxide mix, would it? But it works splendidly with both argon and helium (depending on material welded, naturally)
+David Richards Listen up people. People refer to Mig as the welding process where you pull the trigger and wire comes out. I don't know where y'all are from but here in america we call it.................MIG

I am MIG welding for 25 years and I really enjoyed this video
Love you Cindy. You have woken up the artist in me. Love from South Africa. Thanks for the video.
Love the spines! Thanks for giving a totally different set of hints and tips from normal welding videos.
You have a fantastic grasp on your welding vocabulary and you orate beautifully!
The students' artwork is great stuff. Quite inspirational. Watching this video makes me want to do more with my everlast mig.
I am just learning to MIG weld at Austin Peay State University. Am so inspired to go great things! Thanks so much!
Great video. I'm trying to get my daughters interested in using my everlast welder. This is one video I think I will get them to watch.
Very informative, and your work is beautiful.. I'm a beginner, and I will be welding on a 1928 Model A Ford Roadster.. All the welds will be covered up, but the old car itself is a piece of art.. Thanks so much for your video!!
Великолепно! Спасибо за урок, для себя открыл новые приёмы. Я знаю чем заняться на каникулах.
I never thought to do that with a whisker! Great hack.
nice job on this, I picked up alot of tips,,,want to try my hand in scrap art,,
Good to see a woman welder. she did a great job explaining thing's.
Thank you so much. This was very informative.
Really nicely presented- thank you.
Good stuff, well explained thanks for the video.
Well done, good tips. Thank you.
Awesome ART !!!

I can't wait to make some art with my everlast welder. Weather has not been helpful but is getting better.
nice demo
Thanks Cindy. I learned some things from your vid.

By the way, I am impressed with this welding art. way to go :)
I wish there were classes like this at my school. Then I could make some sculptures with my everlast welder
very well explained. thank you.
Always nice to see another she welder.
VERY BEAUTIFUL
really nice shop
Thank goodness the music stopped and I can listen now.
I Just finished 60 hours of arc welding and I wish she was my instructor
Why, most of this isn't welding, it's an instruction on how not to weld and calling it "art".
Welding since I was 13 and I use both techniques, it depends on what you are trying to do aesthetically and functionally, and the relative thickness/purity of the base material.
great great. thank you.
Thanks to Good Explains
Your awesome
Very explicit. Great voice!
tanks you mother.😘😘
very good teaching video
Keep on keeping on
i'm welding with 3 l per minute and its beautiful an strong? why she set like 9 liter it empty the bouttle in som seconds...
Excuse me Sr. It looks like you know a lot about MIG welding, please would you tell me which transfer mode is being used in this video?
Hi Cindy,
SCFH is Standard Cubic Feet per Hour, not Square Cubic Feet per Hour. It refers to the flow rate of the gas at 60 degrees Fahrenheit and about 14.7 psi, which is pretty close to the conditions in a comfortable shop.

Not that it mattters but SCFH for the shielding gas flow is 'Standard' cubic feet per hour, not Square cubic feet per hour.
Thanks, but Why globular should be avoided if it offers more heat input than short circuit? I thought that short circuit should be avoided..
Nicee!!!
Black scale on the flowmeter is liters per minute, not hour :)
Love the spine trick!

Nothing sexier than a woman welder. Which BTW I am very impressed by your abilities. I wish I could weld half as good as you. Awesome.
What is that supposed to mean?
Don't be silly, of course you can touch and rest the gas nozzle on the work piece and weld, most professional welders do this when they are tacking parts together it makes it easier. As long as the tip is not shorted across to the nozzle by spatter etc then nothing can happen. Square cubic feet: there's a concept!

★★★★★
If you follow safety rules, it won't hurt your eyesight. It WILL hurt your eyes if you look at the spark unprotected.
It's not Short arc welding if youre doing spray arc
- don't pick up hot metal with your gloves, it shrinks the leather.
well said
Nice artwork madam i dont care what this losers comment is but i think you did just fine for an artwork remember welding is art :)
can't here the voice audio...only music then nothing.
let me see your other half---- hes back right
M.I.L.F. welding... ^^
Completely wrong to turn the main valve several turns. If there is a fire it should be quick to turn off all gas bottles. Full pressure is obtained at a half-turn.
I wonder if this woman ever learned to weld.
First off let me say that this is for ARTISTIC welding not STRUCTURAL welding. So the welds will not be as uniform as someone welding as a career. she is cute
Is this a joke? Neat art at the end but she is just making a mess.
+trailerpark187 welder doesn't look like it is setup correctly. I always do test runs with my everlast before welding to be sure everything is set up correctly. I love the artwork at the end but wished there was more fabrication in this video.
i pray to god she never welds anything of structural importance
first off, you dont pull a mig weld, you push it, and her weld was ugly as hell, i've been a welder for 18 years lol
please do not talk about structural welds till you at least learn to make them yourself, that last weld the "structural weld" was a poor example of a mig weld, it's very dangerous to give advise on things you do not fully understand.

+Arne Olsén At any % mix co2 is a dissociable gas compared to a monotomic gas (argon, helium) and always an active gas.
Exactly! :)

that is horrible welding that is why women shouldn't be welders
