    A manager instills his personality and thinking on the team. That is a Southgate team 100%. We took the kick off, straight back to Pickford who lumps it forward giving it to Spain. • @warreng5257
      @warreng5257 Před měsícem +1

      Kane has never had legs. Southgate just stuck with Kane when he was performing badly because they are buddies.
      Mainoo always looks for the forward ball, he's definitely more progressive than Wharton. Rice made a lot of backwards/sideways passes, but I think this was more to do with the midfield being congested, as he plays for one of the most progressive teams in the Premier league, and passes for forward there.
      Why was the midfield congested? Because Kane can't run in behind defences and stretch defences, it invites thr opposition defence to push up and thus the their midfield to push, leaving little space between the lines.
      Gordon is very fast, not sure Bowen is any or much faster than Saka. Gordon definitely should have started or played more, and the smart decision would be to simply play either/or Foden and Bellingham, we just kept trying to force aas many "names" into a team as possible, ignoring form and balance.

I never got it because we've always had talented players. Do i think this is the best crop of players we've had? No, but they're certainly talented. It's so jarring seeing players like Foden and Bellingham who've had brilliant seasons for their clubs play like headless chickens half the time for England. Why is our manager playing Kane knowing he isn't fit when we have other strikers who've made a better impact in the little time they've played? Club football has evolved massively in the last 10 years, and given that National managers/coaches get so little time with the squad, it's foolish to try to mould them into a new/different type of footballing entity: play the players in their natural positions, playing the type of football they play week in, week out.

      @@tevildo45 They arranged to award penalties for them at the most minimum contact and not to be checked by var so that they won't rectify them, had they done that those "penalties" would have been disallowed. Almost all penalties for argentina were to open matches so that they could control the game, except in the match with Netherlands. France were awarded legit penalties, unlike argentina's, and take into account it was france, a powerful federation that won fair and square world titles in both ocassions so they have enough weight to prevent not being given both legit penalties.
      Like it or not, argentina was practically handed the title by fifa only because infantino is a fan and a friend of messi, though i would say they are much more than that, and also because the ruler (owner) of qatar is another fan. Those two people joined forces and made a plan through the refering to make messi win the world cup since he would've never achieved that on their own (even with a more competitive team like the current one) as shown every single time he wasn't helped. He was this close to lose to France so in the end they barely managed to fullfil their plan, thus without those "penalties" it wouldn't have been enough to reach the final let alone win the world cup.

    Saying that individual players and pragmatism is what won teams tournaments is so stupid its unreal. Its taking us down the same hole. Ive got an article from 2006 about "why cant england pass the ball".. all the other teams played good football aside from greece. You HAVE to start to understand why england dont win, we were not able to get enough players forward, we were exceptionally bad on the ball most of the tournament, there wasnt enough movement and effort to get into space, kyle walker stood ready to take a throw in for about 20 minutes because nobody is in space. Pickford with players either side of him kicking it long time and time again, impatience when we do turn possession over just like when we lost to portugal in 2006. Weve learned nothing from pep, klopp, arteta, because when its "just" us doing it on our own we go back to 90s football. Big lumbering centre forward, he even would have played maguire if he was fit.. be honest. These arent footballers, spain had footballers all over the pitch. In summary, dont work out how to beat spain, how to stop spain, BE SPAIN

    Southgate was the right man too get us out of the post hodgeson doldrums we were in, he instilled a sesne of togetherness that england teams have struggled with, however the team we have is the product of deliberate and dedicated player development at the FA via the EPP programe and St Georges park. However he needed to movemon once the broad culture had been set and players bedded in, to win tournaments we need a manager with elite tactical acumen. Unfortunatley southgate is not that guy like the commentators said, another more sucessful coach could have worked wonders with this crop. The only consolation is that this generation of players has come about thanks to a deliberate design, rather than chance like the so called golden generation. So i am confident that either this crop or the next, so long as they have a decent manager can do something

    Can we finally call out and upgrade on Rice, he is no where near a top quality midfielder. We cannot control a game with the likes of a stiff club footed player like him in there. He is not cute enough on the ball, too slow to see a pass, and he's very limited in what he's great at. To be World beaters you need better than him. Cannot stand him as a player. We can talk about the obvious players like your Fodens and Bellignham, but you improve by improving the floor level talent of the team. Pickford isn't a modern keeper, who doesn't play in a modern style, and Rice just isn't good enough at top level.

    Everytime I listen to talksport, I'm usually keen on Simon Jordan's take about the matter because I find him clear and consistent in his thoughts and opinions, Alex and other pundits that come on here usually have an ever changing tone based on the circumstance or outcome of a game. I heard Alex suggest that walker had a "really poor tournament", with due respect sir but that comment is absolute nonsense. He may not have been a standout player of that squad but by no means was he "poor", ever present in that backline and perhaps one of the main reasons why the team even managed to reach a final from a defensive perspective. It's like the caller hinted, these guys are a group of really good players that are coming in with their reputations off their incredible entertaining clubs, provided with some of the most intricate thinking minds of the sport and is expected to replicate that in their national teams.
    They often have no consistent/reliable offensive structure and hence, each one just about plays with their hearts and not their mind during the heat of the moment.

    We cannot play the pressing game after a long season. To play that way you need to be good in possession otherwise it's way too tiring. Southgate got the tactics spot on. The problem is that the manager must incorporate into a disparate team all sorts of different playing styles which players have been taught by different club managers. That takes time and the manager has not got that time to do it. So there must be some sympathy for Southgate. But against that, all international managers face the same problem and of course some are very successful. Ergo it follows that Southgate must be shipped out and someone with more ingame and out of game tactical management skills brought in. If that means dropping established names and putting in players who do meld better, we need to do it and fast.
