The threat Watkins gave in the short game time compared to static Kane was there for us all to see and Palmer had the brians to find his runs.
If that is true Kane was injured then Southgate should resign or be sacked, could have played Watkins/Toney and given them better chances to integrate in the team. If that was other managers they would have made the switch!
It’s just excuses. It’s not like he’s going to say ‘I got it wrong again’. Kane was injured with Bayern at the end of the season and has been battling with his fitness, which you can clearly see from his performances and Southgate confirmed it after the game.

Praising Gareth Southgate for reaching another final given the run we had to make the final is like praising Pep Guardiola for getting to the FA Cup final after beating Cheltenham, Bolton, Middlesborough, West Brom and Fulham en route.

They are all injured after playing for 10 straight months. Something people conveniently fail to mention. Their bodies are destroyed by now.
Spain were better than us and England were lucky to get as far as we did. Kane should not have been playing in any of the knockout stages, whether it was injury or something else but because of it we were effectively a man down for most of the matches.
Southgate has been a lucky boy with the easy routes that have opened up and this has been the main reason the team have reached WC semi & 2 Euro Finals.
The only reason England have progressed in recent tournaments is blind luck with the draws.
Kane has a bad game and the media wants us to believe he must be carrying and injury. I’m truth Kane always looks injured against the better teams and scores a ton of goals against the weakest of teams for club and country

I am Irish and living in Ireland, I was hoping that England would win. Harry Kane was all alone up front with No support, If he is not brought into the game he cannot score without the ball. Spain's weakness was their left full back and this was not exploited by England. None of the wings were exploited by England and No delivery to Kane. Even when Kane came back into midfield no one took up his position. England spend more time chasing and defending the game rather than attacking. Spain had England on the back foot all the time.

Once England got out the group stage. Southgate should have split the striker role, Toney starts & Watkins off the bench. I agree that Kane is not captain material, he’s just been rewarded for his service to England. I would go for a more vocal player who can motivate. I think we were beaten by a Spain team that most people thought were the best in the competition. Loved Spain and the way they played . Our team barring the first half against Holland have been terrible to watch ,quite boring to be honest . Too much passing backwards and negative play . Quite worrying for the future with the severe lack of quality English managers to take over from Gareth .I personally would of preferred us to of played an attacking game and gone out in the quarters .
