Nice work on that courtyard! The only thing I would recommend is a screen or decorative panel to hide A/C unit. That might even block some of the noise.

The rubber mulch is the best idea as it doesn’t break down or lose its colour. Bark mulch you end up having to refresh every year. Courtyard looks awesome.
The mint will take over, maybe its own pot?

This is wonderful, esp the Japanese Maple. Oooooo. My challenge is that I live in the desert. An oasis feel uses too much water. I'm leaning to a dry Italian modern design, no hardscaping, using decomposed granite. Finding plants, not many, that works in the desert while eschewing cacti.
I love that water feature.
Our issue is wind and heat. Designing around it will be a challenge.
That reminds me of Japanese stone gardens, with white gravel, and only a few hardy trees.

love what you've done on that patio, but that zapper has to go. Bug zappers kill bugs by the thousands. But there's a problem: They kill the wrong bugs. They are ineffective against mosquitoes and other biting flies, and their otherwise indiscriminate killing can disrupt pollination and generally throw the environment out of balance. You are likely killing creatures that eat mosquitos.
With fountains, how do you prevent mosquito breeding? I want to do a water feature but have to look into how that works without pests. Looks so relaxing!
