      Just checked out your channel for the first time after seeing you on Crowder. Going through your videos was like watching a video chronicle of the changes in my own political thinking over the last year. I had considered myself a fairly liberal Democrat since college, but the rise of the regressive left has made me question everything I believed in.

      Yep. That’s why Dems always try to shut down speech and label people as racist etc. - they don’t want people to actually listen to ideas and to think. Thinking people are like kryptonite to Dem power. The more people think, the more Dem ideas are exposed for how profoundly wrong they are.

    "The likely hood of someone breaking into your house is so small! Why do you need a gun?!" Ahh the motto of the left in a nut shell: "Never be prepared!"

    • @RetroMMA
      @RetroMMA Před 8 lety +12

      Nay, they go further and 'inform you' that simply having a firearm in the house will end with someone in the household getting killed by said firearms: 'It's, like, math and statistics and stuff'...

    • @CyberneticCuldean
      @CyberneticCuldean Před 8 lety +7

      RetroMMA Yes, having a gun in the house guarantees a member of the family will kill someone from your family. Better to be unprepared in the event of a home invasion, or any other confrontation with a criminal. Amazing that I, and everyone I grew up with had guns in the house, knew how dangerous they were, how to operate them, used them all the time, and yet every single one of us managed not to kill someone with them Some more grade A logic from a leftist. Thanks bud.

    • @RetroMMA

      CyberneticCuldean Guns kill they say... Don't even get me started about my lazy ass guns!

    • @NeverSuspects
      @NeverSuspects Před 6 lety +1

      Home invasions are seen as not worth it to a criminal that understands that kind of crime as not worth the risk of being shot by anyone in the house or a neighbor. Homes get robbed only after a thief cases the house for a week and ensures that no one will be around when they rob it. In Austraila and Europe where people can't own a gun if the thug can strong arm the people in the home they will just kick the door in and hold the person down by their throat no worries of the 7 year old in the hallway grabbing dads revolver and painting the wall red to help mommy.

    Guns also serve as deterrence. Owning a fire extinguisher doesn't prevent fires, a seatbelt doesn't prevent car crashes. The potential to be shot by a gun owner makes burglars think twice.

    Christiansen is one of the best analytical minds on CZcams. His ability to temperately, rationally, and thoroughly explain the principles underlying a complicated issue in order to properly evaluate the position to support is uncommon.

    The more I've gotten into Political commentary, the more I see the value in free speech and as long as other agree with me on the importance of free speech, the rest of the issues we can come to some sort of an agreement with. If the opponent doesn't believe in free speech, I don't care what they are for or against if they want to simply silence those that don't agree with them.

    Now that I think about it, it was your response to Arbor's video where I first learned of you. I had grudging respect for what you said even if I didn't really like it; I guess fat people are the ones with whom I identify. Over the last few months you've become one of my favorite channels to watch.
    I kinda feel like I'm going on the same journey both you and Dave Rubin seem to be going on. I'm revisiting basically all of the assumptions I made about life and politics as I've been growing up. So I guess if nothing else, thanks for putting out these videos.
    I don't really talk about this stuff around my social circle, and they don't think freedom of speech is a big deal. it's nice to know I'm not alone in this shit.

    From CoD and its LOCR to thoughtful discussions on political issues; quite the evolution. Couldn't imagine many gaming channels to switch in such a way but in doing so, you have managed to bring along subscribers who were previously perhaps only interested in gaming to watching debates about American politics. I personally wouldn't have gone out seeking such a channel (mostly because I live in England and there isn't much interest in overseas politics generally) but since the transition I find your content entertaining and intelligent. Glad I was here for the transition.

    Free speech is the foundation upon which all functioning democracy rests. The more we police speech, the more we weaken that foundation. Eventually, democracy will be replaced by something less desirable & human kind will have lost our best working solution to the problem of how to best govern ourselves. We must be free to offend & free from the fear of state punishment when we choose to express our thoughts & feelings in a public forum. Suppressing "wrong-speak" doesn't make bad ideas go away, it only makes them fester. Open dialogue & debate is how we make progress, not suppression. Much more than feelings will be hurt if we continue to restrict speech through government censorship efforts like speech crime.

    I was a fairly conservative liberal. Voted dem my whole life.
    Not a full Trump supporter but vehemently opposed to the criminal running against him. My vote is still open but you said you might abstain? Look into the Libertarians, much common ground with you views. And if the top a certain percentage They can get the "Major Party" designation and benefits. Also if there is enough impact on the Electoral College, preventing the needed 270 vote majority, Then the fun begins!

  • @hermeticascetic
    @hermeticascetic Před 5 lety +1

    My transition was similar. Freedom of speech is what started the transition. It was slow and steady. It kinda started back during the gay wedding cake. I was like... Why don't they just go to another store? And then it just grew out from there. Now I'm a right leaning Libertarian all the way from a borderline socialist just because one issue, freedom of speech, got me to start looking for alternatives, and I started listening to people like Eric July and that blew my mind. A black secessionist? :Mindblown:. Then I started listening to people like Nick Vassar and then Crowder and other more right leaning people and they made compelling arguments backed up by facts instead of emotional appeals.

There's usually just a right answer and a wrong answer. Common sense is used a lot in order to make the wrong choice and not own up to it. If you have to say something is common sense, you're probably forming a weak argument. You've made a patron out of me. Just let me put some ducketts together first. Lol. ***** That is the same line of reasoning the progressives try to use on me. That my third party vote is one for Trump. Strange, my vote seems to transmits in the direction opposed to the political leanings of those I am talking to. The alchemists were right, we can magically transform one thing into another!
      No. My vote for a third party is a vote for both my ideals and a hope to hurt the two party dichotomy. Nothing more, nothing less. Enjoy your vote for Trump, but be careful, it might transform on you.

    • @starfishsicko
      @starfishsicko Před 8 lety +1

      Layon W. As long as people are willing to bite the bullet, or vote for the Lula, we will indeed be trapped by the two party system, it's why I will not play that game. Fear tactics in voting hold no sway with me, I don't see either option as worse than the other. Splitting the vote also implies I would otherwise have voted for one of the two parties had things been different, which is not the case. I have always voted for the person who is more acceptable to my ideology. So I would either vote third party, or abstain, and since abstaining is actually doing nothing, I have opted to instead support someone I agree with. So it's not right before the primaries, been pretty active with third party support for while.
      Voting third party only helps the stinger candidate if I would otherwise vote for the weaker one, had a third option not been available to me. Not the case. I would vote for neither in this case.
      You don't actually care that I am voting third party, you just care that I am not voting for Trump.

      yollam Thats not what left or right means at all. Distribution of wealth is not at all the point. Just wondering did they teach you that in college?? It just sounds to me like the explanation someone learning about communism would be. Its about government spending and power of federal government. Putting states rights and powers and individuals rights over the fed govt. More importantly it is about the size of the government, smaller governemnt on the federal level, which means less govt spending more fiscally conservative. Believing the fed govt should be small enough to "drown in a bathtub". Its not about the distribution of wealth at all. Thats just a byproduct of less taxes if theres leas govt spending, but trickle down or bottom up economics is just an economic theory and practice that Reagan started messing with. But thats not what cons vs demo is all about at all. Its free market vs govt restrictions and programs. The way you said it makes it sound like distribution of wealth is good or evil. Thats missing the entire point.

    I've been getting a lot of Matt Christiansen videos from 2016 lately. I was curious about this one and I wonder if Matt might ever come back and refer back to this interview, considering recent events. I'm starting to think Matt is the best political commentator on youtube right now. He's calm and too the point, even though I saw his video about being stalked by the guy and being labeled as a white supremacist and I'm not entirely sure Matt came off great in that one. Still, watching him for a while (And watching the Matt and Blonde Show), I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.

    Awesome, really cool to watch you taking to Steven.
    One thing I have to say... Democrats are not about "liberal fiscal policy", and haven't been for many years. Liberal fiscal policy, as the name implies, is about being pro free market, not social democracy as the Democrats have been shifting to for ages.
    Democrats, especially now, are *not* liberals in any sense of the word. There are some liberals in the Republican party and lots of them acting independent and forming third parties. Look up the American Capitalist Party, co-founded by Mark Pellegrino. *That's* what a liberal platform is.
    Americans and your upside-down political labels...

    I think I'll just abstain from this election. Which is a shame because I've always been engaged in politics, and being able to vote for the first time, this is what I'm stuck with lol

    It's what we have in Europe. All the power lies with the trias politica, and if you get attacked by thugs, you're on your disarmed own. The police shows up when the danger is gone, if they show up at all.

    Matt this just popped up on my feed, this episode of crowder turned me on to you a year ago. How much do you think you have changed since then? You often bring up Shapiro, would you consider yourself a full on fiscal conservative now? Just curious
