  • Always Board Never Boring was incredibly excited to receive Masters of the Universe Battleground from his family as a birthday gift. As someone who grew up loving the cartoon, comics, and toys, a tabletop skirmish game featuring all of his favourite characters is a bit of a dream come true. Needless to say, he's going to spend a long time talking about it. If you want to see every component discussed in excruciating detail over a period in excess of 30 minutes, then this is the video for you.
    That's right, folks, we are looking at every card, every miniatures frame, every terrain element, discussing some of the rules, chucking a couple of miniatures together, and more. It just goes on...
    Please note that after making this video, ABNB discovered a timeline of releases for subsequent Masters of the Universe Battleground expansions. This is the timeframe:
    June - four more characters.
    August - New map, terrain, and missions.
    October - four more characters.
    December - The Evil Horde arrives! Heck yeah.
    Where are my Snake Men, though?

    I got the Wolfenstein board game by Archon and recently finished building it. I was pleasantly surprised with the miniature and box content quality, as well as the amount of plastic in the box (especially for the price). My only critique was that the pieces really benefit from being "dry fit" together before using glue to see how one should squeeze the minis together when gluing (have put together well over 750 minis). I have heard mixed things about Archon but with my first exposure I am quite impressed.

      I've been very impressed with everything I've seen from Archon Studio, and Battleground is something I'm really excited about. I haven't had a chance to play Wolfenstein, and it isn't an IP that really interests me, but it looked really good.

    They had said from the start that the design of the game was to "compete" with the likes of Underworlds, Godtear, Warcry as a tournament system. The more Story driven game that is very much like this is the CMON version that I think is still up on KS as a late pledge.

    Wave 1 of the additional characters are going up for Pre-order next week. Beastman, Scareglow, Teela and The Sorceress.
    The only miniatures I had a problem with were Evil Lyn (her staff and wrist connection is VERY flimsy, I suggest gluing the end of the staff against her back) and Stratos (as he is standing on one spindly leg and very badly weighted imo)

    Thanks to you, now I'm interested in this game, now it's in my "to buy" list.
    If I understood the dice mechanics correctly; what I don't like about the game are the dice. It would be a lot better if the dice where dedicated for the game. 1, 2 and 3 should be blank 4 and 5 a star and 6 a star with a burst or explosion in the back but that would make the game a bit more expensive. Now I want the game with custom dice....and in different colors. Purple and yellow for the bad guys and gray and red for the good guys. Looking forward for the next video, your He-Man looked awesome painted 👍

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  Před rokem +1

      Thanks for the kind words. Glad you liked the paint job. I see where you are coming from with the custom dice idea, but symbols would actually make things more confusing. By default, successes are 4 and 5, and critical successes are 6, but you can increase or decrease the scope of tests cumulatively. So, for example, if you use a ranged attack on an engaged enemy (-1 modifier) in cover (-1 modifier), you only succeed on the roll of a 6. A 1 is always a fail and a 6 is always a success, so they could have put something special on those faces, and they could have had fancy coloured sets for each force, but I think they did the right thing by sticking with the numbers.

  • @JBenderP
    @JBenderP Před 2 lety

    Yeah. The game looks nice. I backed Archon’s “Fields of Eternia” game last year. That game was supposed to have been delivered in March 2022 - instead Archon released “Battlegrounds” on pre-order in April 2022. The miniatures - except for one (Orko, I believe) - are the exact same sculpts that the backers paid for in “Fields”, and the art and text is also ripped from “Fields”. Now, as of today, Fields has still not been delivered, no pictures of finished game components have been shown and the game is indefinitely postponed (at least four months qv. Archons CEO). Their communication since closing the crowdfunding has been laughable at best, with the standard reply being “unhappy - here is the link for the refund” to those voicing concerns with the lack of progress, information etc.
    Archon Studios are not getting another Euro cent or any kind of money again.

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  Před 2 lety +1

      Sorry to hear you aren't happy. As I understand it from the recent updates on the Fields of Eternia campaign there have been unavoidable shipping delays, which always sucks and I hope they can resolve that soon. Their crowdfunding campaign for their Dungeons and Lasers stuff has been shipping right on schedule so it sounds like bad luck there, but that doesn't make it any easier when you are facing long delays to get your stuff.
      I believe the He-Man and Orko miniatures are different in Battleground, and all of the miniatures also have different bases to account for facing.
