As a Vitesse fan I have to say that I really appreciate the love! It’s very refreshing to watch a game at the GelreDome from a outsiders perspective. Other fans in the Eredivisie are unfortunately very harsh about our stadium and the atmosphere. It can be pretty bad sometimes, but most of the games it’s a good experience. GelreDome was a revolutionary stadium when it was built during Vitesse’s golden age. But ever since 2010 attendance numbers have been dropping and now the stadium is just too big. It’s capacity is 25.500, but we average about 16.000 per game. Really enjoyed the video and the kind words! Would love to see you back in Arnhem sometime, just know you’ll always be welcome!
16 000 is still great for a dutch club though right?
@@vlaming6818 It’s fine. Clubs of similar sizes like FC Groningen, AZ or FC Utrecht have about the same average per game. The reason we get the negativity for it is because of the size of our stadium. But I do agree, 16.000 on average is good for a club like Vitesse. Apart from the big 3 and FC Twente most teams don’t fill their stadiums (except for some smaller clubs with 10K capacity or lower).

@@vlaming6818the Dutch league is one of the biggest in Europe and we have a small country, so getting to a stadium should be easy, but it’s not to blame on Vitesse fans that they can’t fill their stadium, the people who are fan of them generally are very passionate and they fill their away stands (coming from a Willem II fan)
@@janikowski264Vitesse heeft nog veel meer capaciteit maar hebben het verder omlaag gegooid door doeken over het stadion te plaatsen omdat het gewoon niet vol raakte. Je ziet ook dat die lange zijde misschien voor 1/5e gevuld is.. Utrecht en Groningen pakken trouwens al jaren 5k+ meer toeschouwers dan Vitesse en AZ heeft er ook standaard een paar duizend meer. Nog steeds is 15k niet onaardig voor een eredivisieclub. Clubs als NEC en GAE hebben minder support, maar veel meer sfeer in t stadion omdat de grootte daar beter op aansluit. Voor een club als Vitesse zou een gezellig stadion van zo’n 16/17 duizend man veel beter werken.

Depends what is popular Vitesse , heerenveen , twente , AZ Alkmaar , sparta, Utrecht etc are quite popular only thing is the all have great potential but some how cant make the next step to be stable in finances and player development , AZ Alkmaar had to rebuild its whole structure due to financial reasons ,Twente the same , Roda JC had such great potential back in the 90s and again financial disaray and directors ruined them , Vitesse should be up there with AZ alkmaar and Twente . just like heerenveen sparta and utrecht even Roda JC . sadly most of these teams have a host of local competitors that snatch away supporters .
I can remember the 90s well vitesse was almost the garanteed number 4 than some crap happend with Albers and it was flushed down the drain , and vitesse never realy fully recovered . Quite sad as the teams i am talking about all deserve to be up there performing well bringing the fight to the traditional big 3 .
Iam an AZ Alkmaar suporter , but i recognise good teams . that should be up there . and i do remember that vitesse had verry good teams , even progressing in the confrence league . the strongest season of dutch clubs in european competition .
The 70 cents for toilets sounds ridiculous at first but that money goes to the people keeping the toilets clean. Those kinda public toilets are cleaned quite regularly. I've set foot inside plenty of free public toilets where you never want to set foot in again because it's so rank.
I'm actually impressed how you've set yourself a target of going to all Eredivisie clubs despite not being a "major" league. 👏 Funnily enough there are many bigger and better supported clubs in the 2nd division. 😂
Forgetting the dutch league sits 5th placfe in UEFA rankings above France and portugal . Also have more than 50% of domestic players unlike some artificial pathetic leagues. There is a reason why there are more dutch players playing in foreign leagues than there are english players in the pathetic league . TALENT . Each year more dutch talent is introduced than any other nation . Have all dutch players return to their own league and lets see how strong those other leagues would look in comparison .

As a fan of Vitesse I'm gonna be honest. The support of Vitesse was bad until last year. The club is going trough a hard time and now the fans stand up for our club. The support is getting better each game and I'm very proud of my club and the fans.
I like to say that we are the Millwall of the Netherlands. No one likes us and makes jokes about a 'terrible' stadium and 'bad' support. But we just don't care and keep on supporting our club with passion that's not normal in the football world. We are great.
Thanks for putting the attention to our club and please people, help us support Vitesse. Come to the stadium and create the atmosphere with us. And now I'm gonna end my phrase with a sentence that every Vitesse fan knows. Forza Vites!💛🖤

Stadium's too big for the city, not the fans' fault, this video has proven to me (a former doubter) that they are just as passionate as any other fanbase. Respect to them.
@@adamhall5298 just like some of the Portuguese stadiums for Euro 2004, Vitesse's stadium was built mainly for Euro 2000 which was played in the Netherlands and Belgium but as already stated the stadium was not necessarily right for this club.

@@martijnlangelaar8122 I know that Vitesse needed a new modern stadium too but with the Euros in the Netherlands they had to build a big enough stadium to host international matches. In hindsight, Enschede should have been the eastern stadium as Twente actually have the fan base to bring 30,000 fans in a stadium.
It sad but when the stadium was build the attendence was high and money was flowing , until that Karel Aalbers and Swelheim thing going on with NUON . .

Currently there are some pretty small clubs in the eredivisie while some bigger clubs with better stadiums and support are in the 2nd division
The pitch was a solution to prevent the same problems the Then amsterdam Arena ( now johan cruijf arena ) had where the gras did not get the aircircilation it needed . It also had the benefit to rent out the stadium for concerts with out damaging the pitch .

The Chelsea owners/friends back then that took over the club really put a stop on Vitesse's growth, the stadium back then was always packed. Sad to see a club like Vitesse fighting to survive and not get relegated nowadays. 😔

Did a game last season at fc Utrecht was superb nice and easy from Amsterdam central around an hour ,even better you can enjoy a nice pint on the terrace ✌️
Great video! After you do Holland it would be great to maybe do some Bundesliga 2 games? Would be more cost effective than doing the Bundesliga and would shed more light on some more interesting teams and stadiums

You should really go and visit FC Utrecht, beautiful city and the iconic stadium is always packed (go to a game starting after sunset and for a small lightshow). Get yourself a seat on the Bunnikside and you're right inbetween all of the ultras.
If you want a good taste of Dutch amature football I should go to *Kozakken Boys* it is in Werkendam if you choose a big game the atmosphere is good for such a small club! 😁 PLEASE LIKE SO JOSH CAN SEE THIS!

The Gelrdome was built 25 years ago by an ambitious president, but it is actually too big for the club. Vitesse is a 'city' club, with only a small hinterland in the region (Unlike 'regional' clubs like FC Twente and Heerenveen.). So, while the stadium has a cap of 30k , it got limited by the club to 21k. And on a year average 16k show up. The Club's finances are usually a problem , just as the stadium rent (they don't own it).
With construction the 'business model ' was to have games on sunday and a concert or event during the week. But the pitch rolling system is quite complicated and expensive to use/maintain, so they only have concerts in the winter break (half dec- half jan) and summer... (It has hosted acts like Madonna, Tina turner, The Stones, Lady Gaga etc ).
They should change the horrible seat colours, in fashion 25 years ago. The Johan Cruijff Arena had similar. Now they replaced it with red, and it looks much better.
When the seats of Gelredome would be mostly black with yellow, it would look a lot better. (And dark seats would not show too much , when the stadium is not full)

I guess you will enjoy NAC in the second League as well. Usually fully packed stadium. Little below 20.000 usually. 2nd league have some other great clubs as well, like Willem II, ADO Den Haag, Roda JC, Cambuur, FC Groningen.
