The best toys our kids ever had were cardboard boxes. The big one from a new fridge became a cubby house in the backyard for one whole summer until it became too wet to be used.
We kept the big cardboard box and put it upstairs with some balls, he loves it! Thanks for watching :)
@@TheOutFit A later upgrade could be a lifting roof as seen on ` Roaming Wreckless`s Land Rover.... ???
@@TheOutFit Another more adventurous upgrade, the rear most axel powered by a Tesla motor and batteries from 3 - 4 BMW hybrid cars giving you 33-44kw and a few other bits... or the 300 hp motors driving the front axel found under the Cheifton Range Rover seen on The Late Brake Show..
@@kylereese4822 we will have a pop top roof :)
Things are really starting to come together well ,love the reference,s back to the mog .using what worked for you before Ange.Oakley is ready to assist you .Cant get over how much he has grown..Love the seats ,great fitment Chris.cant wait for the next episode .lots of changes every week now.Stay safe and keep on keeping on .
It made me nostalgic looking back at the Mog build but also reminded me that we can achieve anything! Thank you as always David for your support and all your comments ☺️
Top work. BTW seat belt recoil is attached to the B pillar. A pillar is the windscreen.
Noted! Thank you
The new wheels will really give a good look, as well as being functional.
It's going to look so good, we are so excited!
Nice work! It is really starting to transform.
Thank you so much for following along!
Welcome to the Nordics, our summers are weird, but we're used to it, taking a walk in the rain while it's close to 30C is actually weirdly nice.
What's not nice though is high temperatures, as everything's built to withstand cold, so there's no AC or anything, only time I've had a car with AC was a Buick from 1980. :P
In Sweden 🇸🇪❤ they are called gaffa tape or silver tape. Yeah among the most important "tools" there is
Looking so good and well worth being stoked about! The new wheels will also be so trans-formative.
We can't wait to install them with the new tyres! Thank you so much for taking the time to comment and for watching :)
Seats look great. Nice hack using the ikea mattress 👍
Looking good. Think I would still put armrest on the doors for when it’s raining or windy(Oakley would cop everything that comes in the windows)
Wow impressive, not only the build but also your determination and adaptability to the circumstances! Its contagious, makes me wanna fix my own rv……cheers from Jocke & Cathy stockholm
That's really nice feedback thank you so much Jocke & Cathy! Happy midsummer day :)
@@TheOutFit We wish you a happy midsummer day too 🙂🤩
Fantastic the cab is coming along very nicely 👌
Thank you so much David for watching and for always taking the time to comment, much appreciated :)
Those seats rally complement the colour choice, they look just right.
Chris and Ange, Bouser experience really paying off.
Great job with the nice seats and the rest of the cab interior. Glad you wound up with more leg room and more comfortable seat angle driver side.
Now you need to see how you're going to manage more room on the passenger side for when YOU will be seating there. Because "I will be doing most of the driving" 😂😂😂. I have a feeling Ange will have something to say about that 😊.
Enjoyed the Bouser build clips. Keep it up, Mr. Bean😂
Lou
That's really, really nice. Making me rethink my vinyl plank flooring idea, maybe I should use the oak parquet I got laying around....
Having worked with both, the oak parquet was much easier/faster and thicker insulation. We are happy with our choice :) thanks a lot fkr watching!
I admire how you've transformed the interior of the military truck with creativity and dedication. For those curious, I am floating village life involves communities living on water, often in houses built on stilts or floating structures, offering a unique perspective on living harmoniously with water and nature.
Great Job guys . Cant wait for the engine and transmission to go in. Was a bit worried for your legs there Chris , Glad that worked out.
Great stuff Chris, you're looking and acting like a professional
Is the ultimate plan to have an expedition truck on every continent? 😉
Haha 🤫
Great job on the build been fun to watch the progress
Thank you so much for following along, glad to hear you enjoy the build series!
Seats make it look well trick 👌👌👌
Came here from your channel!
mount the extra armrests on the door
Great suggestion..
Wow. What a change. (Talking about the haircut not the truck). Nah the interior is fantastic. I was really impressed with all the "Bench Vices" you were able to use in your manufacturing. Batteries, Vice Grips, Shoes. Your boy is growing up so fast. He's got power in those legs. Probably going to be a runner.
nice to see the progress and can`t wait to see the new wheels.
Thank you so much for following along!
RESPECT: Top job😍
Thank you so much for the nice comment, it means a lot :)
Nice work! And those seats are fantastic!
Thank you so much for watching and commenting!
G’day Legends. Looking great!! Could you attach the additional armrest to the door skin? Loving the content 🙌🏾
Chris you are doing an amazing job especially for somone who is basically self taught.
For the water tanks, I'd be looking under the chassie infrot if the middle axle. It seems like there is a fair but of space under there and it will obviously keep the weight down low.
Loving it
Thanks for following along!
You could have a water tank on each side with a balance pipe between that can be closed when driving to avoid sloshing to one side. A solenoid valve can automate that, so when ignition on the connection is closed and when parked open. Or old school manual valve if that's too complex.
If you want armrests on the door side, check a wrecker or salvage yard for 70s-90s trucks & vans. Was very common on them to have armrests bolted to the door.
Lil man Oakley is having the time of his life.
He loves being in the truck! We can't wait to go exploring with him :)
There’s some serious magic going on here 👏👏👏
Thank you for watching every week :)
Looking great!
Thanks for following along Erick!
@@TheOutFit if you get to the US and on the east coast we can help you out ! Maybe even a Volvo Army truck meet up ! Cheers.
Oh there is a funny shout out today to you guys on True Blue Traveler! Cheers
@@VintageWanderer that would be awesome!
build looks good thanks lee
One way to save weight is to swap out your batteries with antigravity batteries their less than half the weight and smaller
I’m building a Coaster and we did the same thing with the IKEA mattress. It was going to cost $1100 to get cut to size foam and only cost us $179 for two mattress
It's definitely the way to go!
@@TheOutFit I’m quite lucky IKEA is only two exits down the highway. Loving the content btw and can’t wait to see how the build turns out
I second your ”heap of room”! I am 195cm, and getting into that drivers position was a challenge wearing helmet, body armour and combat belt with magpouches, gas mask, water bottle and an entrenching tool dangling about. Also size 15 feet didnt help. So in a way, not really surprised you made yourself fit given your lack of the proper kit.
Use Hockey tape, the stuff for hockey stick Grips, a better version of cloth tape and hard wearing
Thanks
When I was in lumpen we used to hot wire these by shorting two breakers with our nametags behind the glovebox
How exciting!! Great work on the seats and floor…Little Oakley seems to approve 😀🙌💛💛💛
You certainly look happy with the space you have for driving :) Try CAK tanks for a range of shapes ready made (UK based, may not be easiest to ship to EU these days)
Ooooo - lets slip its a Merc Auto shifter - so backing my original engine guess of OM606, Auto made me think maybe it was BMW M57
Fantastic episode as usual, looks like your summer weather is just like Victorian weather 😂😂😂
Amazing how kids are entertained by the simplest things.
Keep up the awesome work
Buena elección, quedan muy bien. Recuerden que el agua en el off-road suele ser problema para todos los componentes eléctricos conectados, el sistema de fusibles es muy apropiado.
Can't wait for next week video
Thanks for following along!
Very nice!
Looking great! Love the seats!! Great color and pattern. :)
Thank you so much for watching and commenting!
Really nice to see the progress you guys are doing on this vehicle! Seats look amazing and gives it a whole new look!
Not sure if you are doing any driving yet on public roads (more then back and forward to the get it road worthy) but if you do you will need to make sure it is "Påställd" meaning that it is registered as a vehicle that is ok to drive on public roads and that also looks after so that the insurance is valid for driving. I can see in the app "Mina fordon" that it is currently "Avställd" meaning it is not ok to drive on the roads and if police stop you, you will get a hefty fine as it is not "in traffic" and also not insured for more then sitting in the garage at the moment. Björn, or someone, should be able to help you out with this, it is easily done in the app but I think there is only a Swedish version so you will need help I believe. As it is a vintage vehicle (more then 30 years old) you don't pay any road taxes for it even when it is set as permitted for driving in traffic so there's no cost.
Oh thanks Goran for letting us know, we are learning everyday! What is the app you are mentioning?
@@TheOutFit @TheOutFit No problem, love to travel myself so know what it means to learn how things work in different parts of the world! Owned a couple of cars in Australia to travel around a few years back.
The app is called "Mina fordon" but I realized now that you will need a log in through a system that you won’t have as you need a Swedish social security number for that… It is also possible to do this online, see link below, but the part of the process with notification also only seems to be available in Swedish for some stupid reason...
You need the registration papers to set this up. You will also need an insurance of course, which I'm sure you already have, and when the vehicle is notified as "in use" the insurance company will automatically be informed so no need to contact them separately.
I'm sure someone can help you out with this. Hope this helps you! If not let me know as I will pass by Malmö later tonight with my camper on my way to Spain By the way your camper is ok to use in traffic, so you are all good there!
@@goranfardigh8647 Enjoy Spain! The link didn't work unfortunately, would you mind sending it to me by email or Instagram/Facebook please? I have a samordningsnummer and traffic insurance through Länsförsäkringar so hopefully I can do it :)
@@TheOutFitsent you an email now, hope that works better, otherwise let me now!
Love yr work .fearless determination to take on any task associated with the build .MATE ....please don't grind next to the battery again ,yr family needs u and so do we ...looking forward to the next instalment.... lots of love from downunder
Amazing progress guys! When I first saw what you purchased and what obstacles you encountered with, it is even more impressive.
In about 5-7 years of time when our children grow to the age when daddy and mommy won't be the best company anymore, we will have an expedition rig as well.
I came across the Pingzauer few days ago, have you discovered it also? Similar size than the Volvo, it had 4x4 and 6x6 layout (independent portal axles and torsion free tube chassis), and it had various configs, soft top troop carrier, hardtop, pickup, ambulance, radio.
Thank you! Yes very familiar with the Pinz. Similar great vehicles but the Volvo is larger, not air-cooled (like the earlier Pinz' and has a less complicated drive-line
@@TheOutFit hmm how mildly you put that. less complicated
Yeah, I guess noone would like to start doing a front diff job in the middle of nowhere.
If the country is cooperative (unlike Hungary, where engine swaps along with anything else is forbidden because who knows what) many 4 bangers with longitudinal transmissions fit nicely.
I did not notice the Volvo is bigger, will look that up, thanks!
11:35 I'm on leave at the moment. I also like to take a mid-morning nap sometimes.
Looking good. Seats look cracking 👍 Also, not shout of Ikea for making seats so that's for that.
Looks so good! 🤙
Amazing looks so far. I would consider the arm rest on the left side, you might not want to have the window open at all times :D
Hey Chris, be very careful creating sparks around a battery mate, one spark in the wrong direction and it could explode.
Great to see the project coming along, almost there hey.
This is the comment I was looking for. I would find some other way of clamping that steel than a battery. Looks like he needs a vise.
@@chrispy725 he's got one.. I truly think that Chris is always trying to do the best he can, but I'd hate to see something go horribly wrong.
Great job and video this time also!
Thank you so much for following along!
Hey up youse three paint the new wheels silver, truck is coming on nicely
Love this. Keep up the good work. 🇦🇺🇫🇷🇸🇪
NZ flag for Chris 🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿 you're lucky he didn't see that 😄
The store JYSK has lots of cheap mattresses and such. Plus other cheap things for the house. Often cheaper than IKEA. Pro tip.
Good tip, I haven't actually been there before! I'll check it out for cushions maybe. Thanks for watching :)
Fitting seats and seat frames in anything that's none standard and hasn't got a flat floor is always a bit of a bear of a job.. seat bolsters..and lumber wings.. get in the way . From working with kit cars sometimes you just wish someone wish someone would come up with a modular seat. I always had to battle to find QRelease combined break and slide forward seats for two door 5 seat body styles .
Seriously; I'm just binge watching all your Mog and Volvo vids. I just got to "2 breakdowns in 48 hours" if you watch at 14:20 to 15:20 Oakley's breathing seems laboured. I had similar problems at his age so I know what I'm talking about. Is he ok? can you check him out? maybe just a pollen allergy, maybe nothing - I hope so. But please do think about it. I really don't mean to say anything negative at all, or create a panic but please be careful. I wish you every success - with the build too.
Hi Stephen - would you mind messaging us privately and telling us more about your problems? Thank you!
@@TheOutFit Just sent you an e-mail.
I'm digging the Mario Bros look! 😜
How about converting the steering to electric servo steering? Not to complicated, I have done that on my RV using a Toyota Corolla unit with steering wheel adjustment. The electric steering works in Fail-Safe mode if the steering control unit (ECU) is disconnected from CAN BUS. Using the Corolla steering wheel I now have a smaller steering wheel and also radio buttons in the wheel and modern turn and light switches in the column. There is a lot of information a the net how to do it and what to parts to use.
Happy Midsommar 😀🇸🇪👍🏻
Hope you had a nice midsummer!
well impressed with how its going but why is the seat belt reel right up the door pillar maybe i missed something as to why it cant be on or behind the seat that going to give you a bad shoulder when you hit it off roading
National Luna do some good internal lights
Careful with that kid....he could take a Header out that open door in half a second !
Hey man! Amazing work on the Volvo!
I wanted to ask you something irrelevant : I am also an immigrant to Malmö and I have a motorcycle that I want to slowly restore during winter and I was wondering, the space that you use to work on the Volvo, how can I search for it on the interwebs ? Is it ultra costly ? Thanks in advance!
Could you possibly fabricate armrests permanently fixed onto the doors, perhaps?
We don't have armrests on the window side in our Unimog and it doesn't bother us, we are used to it now. Thanks for watching :)
2:01 Chris I asked the size of the rear door ye ,you said 6' x 4' ye ,do you think you could get a husqvarna 701 enduro in the back of the vehicle mate .
Looks absolutely great!
Will you install some kind of AC? Summer can be pretty hot in southern Europe.
No A/C at this stage. We didn't have it in the Unimog cab in Australia and were in hot environment all the time and we were fine. At the back at camp the pop top will bring lots of fresh air inside and we'll probably add some fans for now. Thanks for watching :)
The seat is an integral part of the safety in an accident in conjunction with the seat belt. there are some horror stories from the world of rallying where the seat has become detached and although the occupant was in a ful harness belts with crotch straps they suffered horrific injuries. Its no good being on nthe end of a flexible seat belt when the seat is flailing around with you in it.
Buenos videos, le hubieran levantado el techo y por favor más subtitulos en Español por favor, gracias.👍
That back corner of the seat area where it meets the engine compartment and angles out really really sucks!
Grinding next to a battery?. Really? I've been there when a panel beater caught a battery with sparks, they go off like a hand grenade, they also cover the area and you with acid. 2nd video this week I've seen on YT with someone doing this. It could potentially blind you. Please keep sparks well away from battery's.
13:59 Chris couldn't you use riv nuts with locktite on mate
Damn! That’s all the way back? I thought Defenders didn’t have much leg room, that’s not going to be fun on long journeys.
Well Chris drove thousands of kilometers in Australia in our Unimog so this will be like luxury 😁
An electric carving knife works great for cutting foam.
Not worth getting one for one job though :)
What speed will the beast do on highway running?
Are you gong to have slide out drawers for a kitchen to use it outside and inside the van?
The drawers will only be inside. If we have them outside it would take too much room in our rear entrance door. But we'll have the ability to cook outside :)
Seat belt coil retractor should be mounted on the bottom of the B pillar.? Not up where your head could hit it in case of an accident?
No it's an E-rated Securon seat belt
Hmm… Eeekéa it is pronounced. Biiil-teeema! 😆 Love you! /Ronny
No way! We had no idea! Thanks for watching Ronny :)
❤
Are you going bed locks rim? What engine are you going to put in Omxxx:)?
Good question! Stay tuned 👀
I will immidiately close this video after baby-yadayada is thrown at me within the first 40 seconds.
That's okay if we aren't for you, we are a family overlanding channel :)
Just a thought, have you installd the safetybelt the right way? In case of an accident dont you risking to bang your head into that bulky recoil? Should it not be installed with that down to the floor and rout the belt up to a second point at the B-pillar?🤔
As a 3 point belt, not as a 2 point that you have it now that i could see?
By the way, I also have same kind of projekt as your wehicle but 3D printing in 1/10 scale instead 😁 to fit on a TRAXXAS TRX6 chassie.
No this is an E-rated Securon safety belt that relocates the drum for an install like this. It's still a 3-point seat belt. Cheers
guy, grinding next to a battery.. How safe is that? :P doing a good job m8
Wait... where did you find an empty Ikea??
Weekday Ikea is the best 🙌
That cardboard box is worth more than the truck in your child's eyes
Keep hearing him say Ugly instead of Oakley, 😅
first to comment yeah !!!!
Thanks for tuning in!
Dammit !!! 😅...
I dont understand why you didn't do the engine/gearbox swap, before you did the interior. All that work then you have to take the back off to do the swap. It doesn't make sense or is it just me?
Can you stay in EU for 15 weeks on a tourist visa?
Chris got a EU citizen family Swedish visa 👍
Just realised Chris has done the whole build without a vice lol cmon dude they are like 20 bucks from vevor
Chris doesn't have anything to attach the vice to so he adapts 😅
Just be careful visiting sea or bush
I would have kept it military camo outside
Not a good idea for global overlanding
@@TheOutFit makes sense 😅
u forgot to paint the rims and the gas can
The jerrycan isn't a priority but we will paint our new modified wheels when we pick them up 👍
