    Contracting for over 40 years, the first 20 as a Drywall contractor. But like most drywall guys doing the whole house was easy, patching and matching texture was the magic. Without my Binx I didn't have a prayer. Now with your tutorials I am patching (with a bug sprayer mostly) and you can't find the patch even on the ceiling when you know where it is. That's all thanks to you on the learning curve. Now when I train someone I have them watch some select videos of yours, put them in the patch training room for a day and they are golden.

    i have done mostly commercial work for close to 28 years now. I do some residential hanging and stuff now and then. My problem is knowing how much to charge for things like this. A job like this can take basically an entire day because of drying time, but it doesn't look like a days work. People don't always understand that just because a patch is small, that doesn't mean you can fix it in a few minutes.
    Have you ever done a video on pricing jobs?

      Check with your local Drywall Supply. If not, ask them if they have extra wide joint tape as you can sometimes get it in a roll about an inch wider. But it’s real pricey like that.

    Also can I cover ceiling crack and corners for the first and second or 3 coat using the same compound or do I need a different compound for sealing the last coat before painting my wall? Sorry I got confused reading the comments on other videos and want to be sure since you also show using compound 3 I’m scared. Lol

    • @ThatKiltedGuyDIY
      @ThatKiltedGuyDIY  Před 2 lety +1

      All the mud you listed will work but the difference is the hot mud‘s shrink far less, and allow you to put multiple coats on in one day. But they are also much harder to sand so if you can’t put it on the flat the first time you will work 10 times harder sanding it down flat and in that case you’re better off using regular all purpose mud.

    I thought hat you should not use hot mud to cover screws because the hot mud is supposed to cure, not dry, and if it is too thin it will dry?

    • @ThatKiltedGuyDIY
      @ThatKiltedGuyDIY  Před 11 měsíci

      That is true but I think in this instance it’s fine because we’re putting it on such a small area and there’s nothing to cause it to come loose such as joint expansion, and when it goes on the screw it should have enough depth to cure. Plus I often use five minute mud which cures before it dries.

Sprayed bleach and water all over the place, put fans on the wet area. Going to go back in three days and wipe everything down with a sponge that has alot of bleach. Any advice?

    • @ThatKiltedGuyDIY
      @ThatKiltedGuyDIY  Před 2 lety

      Not without being there. Sometimes you need a dehumidifier, sometimes just fans, sometimes both but ensuring it’s completely dry is super important. and then I don’t really like bleach at all so I found some mold control spray that I like better. This is it- amzn.to/3FQeNXg

    The fact that even an expert can’t match the texture perfectly just shows how finicky it really is. We need a standardized wall texture with a perfectly matched spray bottle that can be bought at any store. Sure it’ll never happen as an industry standard but it could absolutely happen with one brand. I know nothing about it tho and maybe that’s very apparent by this comment. Haha… but really, get some damn chem experts with paint and texture specialists to come up with a very good solution. I’d imagine it’s happened but don’t know where or what it is..
