When I was little, we had to drag our decomposing cow, Oreo, out from under the shed and out into an open field where the vultures could peck her body. She died from being underfed. It really disturbed me when I was younger. I think about it often.

I'm stunned. The imagery hit me like a wall of bricks.
I really loved 'Songs & Instrumentals' when it came out but generally skipped over this song until 2 weeks ago, when stray dogs killed our neighborhood cat Budzgi who was semi-feral but lived at our porch for 3 years and was affectionate towards us. Seeing his mauled body was quite traumatizing, as well as arranging burial for a creature that was alive and well hours ago but I kept composure. For some reason, the next day I put on the album and when this song came up, I listened to the lyrics and completely broke down into tears - which is part of the healing, I guess. This is a perfect album from start to finish - poetic, mystical and melancholic

A 'housing scheme' would be an area developed with homes by a company, so I understand it as his (and her) eyes reflecting the years of life spent wandering the streets and lanes of whatever was once home. That's just my take though.

'Ingydar was the name of my great-aunt Becky’s horse, who passed away when I was a kid. But the song itself, I have to say, it isn’t really about that horse. That was just a fragment from the pool of ideas, or colors that I wove into the song, but yeah. “Everything eats and is eaten / Time is fed.” Have you ever used a vacuum cleaner, and there’s a button that sucks the cord back in?'
