    I got this set as a companion to my Ducati Panigale and honestly I really like both of them. It is bizarre how they compare and how relatively different they are. In terms of functions they are basically the same - 2 speed gearbox, working steering wheel and front and rear suspension, the notable difference being the kickstand for the Kawasaki as comared to Ducati's paddock stand. The Ducati really amazed me by what can be accomplished with purely Technic build... well there are a total of 5, if memory serves, non-Technic parts = two katanas, two clear round 1x1 tiles and one 2x3 tile, all attached via Technic elements. Meanwhile, Kawasaki is much less hesitant of using System parts, and they pop up in quite a few places, but to a good effort. There's a noticeable increase in detail, with things like brake handles, footrests and more detailed seat being included on the Kawasaki, but probably the most important difference in terms of parts is a new windshield piece used in place of Ducati's vinyl windshield. It also does away with the rubber band powered gear shifter mechanism. On the other hand, the Kawasaki is noticeably more hollow, which is probably due to its inline 4 engine as compared Ducati's V4. While you could fairly easily fit a V4 engine inside a frame of a motorcycle in this scale using the classic 2x4 cylinder bricks, it wouldn't be possible with inline engine, as it would immediately make the bike way wider. That's most likely why they switched to a smaller sized new 1x1 pistons and complementary crankwheels. The resulting engine works well and is visible when handling the model, both of which are good things, but it is also quite noticeably tiny and leaves quite a bit of empty space within the bike. That's probably why they decided to skip perhaps the most obscure function that the Ducati had - the quick release bodywork panels, which let you display the bike with exposed internals - you cannot really do that easily with the Kawasaki and even if you do, I'm afraid the model won't look as presentable in its "naked" form. Still, I ended up modifying my Ducati after getting it, giving the fairing more complete shape, filling some gaps, improving the seat area and also, perhaps most importantly, giving it a front brake caliper and fender. The Kawasaki, has got all these upgrades, except the front brake caliper and front fender, out of the box, so I guess it shows overall evolution of this line. Line that, I'd say, is more interesting than the big 1:5 motorcycles, not only Ducati and Kawasaki have basically the same functions in smaller form, they are about 1/3 the price of their larger brethren and seem both much more playable and much sturdier, with the BMW M1000RR and Yamaha MT10 SP feeling at home really only when mounted on their stands.
    I'm still going to look for a way of adding the front brakes and fender to my Kawasaki, though, but I feel it is the only upgrade it needs.
    I don't like the Batcycle personally. It is accurate to the movie version, but even the movie version I find simply ugly.

      Also, I figured out a simple way to reduce the wobble on the brickbuild part of the gas tank. Just use a spare 1l tube piece on the front pin of the 2x2 modified plate with two pins on the bottom.

    Add some scrapes to the fairings on that bike and it would match the 250 Ninja rode by someone I knew that laid it down from a wind incident. This crotch rocket prostate checker does have the typical 4 banger inline engine that most sports bikes have. I would like a sound block instead of a Batmobile light brick. Now that I think about it, why not add a lime green light to the bike and add a sound block for the engine RPM exhaust note? That would be neat. It looks like they used a cam shaft for a crank shaft. Oh well. Those clicking engines actually make a sound that almost sounds like the firings of the spark plugs of the real deal, with a little imagination. LOL I did buy this set, and I own the BMW 1:5 and the Yamaha 1:5. I ride the 1:1 bikes, cruisers, no sport models. I don't mind building the sports bikes. I wish Lego would come up with a trike motorized R/C. That could be fun. Develop a Can-Am Spyder ride. Full dress with the touring package. I'd buy that, build it, and drive it around outside.

    I'm still not a fan of these bogus solutions for small engines.
    The cam itself might be interesting, but with only 1/2 stud difference between top dead center and bottom dead center, maybe not.

    I believe such a famous bike with the title of superbike deserved a far more large scale build with more detail. Much alike the M1000-RR. certainly not worth $80

    It really bothers me that the engine is incorrect... either they got it wrong and you followed them, or you just got it wrong 😂😭 piston 1 &4 should be up when 2&3 are down and vice versa

    I don't think the price is justified, and someone is going to tell me that's the price for the new molds.
    My response: the new parts aren't worth it. The new circular parts are not in system so it'll be a nightmare dealing with them, the new pistons don't offer much more realism than any previously used representation, and while the windscreen is actually cool, it won't be used ever again for any other model because of the specificity of the shape. All in all, it's a good set, it has all that you need for a technic motorcycle at this scale, but the price is way too high, I'd take it for 60 max, 50 is OK...

    I find this new trend of replacing proper crankshafts, pistons and cylinders with some tiny cams and axles really lame and cheap from Lego. Are we supposed to believe some yellow pins moving up and down on cams represent an engine?

    • @RacingBrick
      @RacingBrick  Před 3 měsíci

      I don't think there's a problem with this until it is done with existing LEGO pieces. There were no proper pistons, rods and cams for small-scale vehicles, so there was an approximation with small beams, the old large cam piece, axles with stop or pins. LEGO is always a simplification of real-life mechanisms, if they use what they have in the inventory to replicate a function then it is fine.
      But the new parts don't make the small-scale engines more realistic at all, the only benefit is having moving "pistons" if they are placed sideways or upside down, I don't think either that can be called a real progress.

    • @johnnytifosi
      @johnnytifosi Před 3 měsíci

      @@RacingBrickYeap, I would rather they build a 1 or 2 cylinder engine in the same place with proper cylinders (like my old 8422 motorcycle) instead of a 4 piston engine out of axles, and I wouldn't care even if the real bike has 4 cylinders. They can't claim they try to be realistic by implementing the original engine layout, when each cylinder is just an axle moving up and down. They have been doing this even in large models where there is no space constraints, like the Tow Truck or the Land Rover Defender.
