Ready, Set, Go… Studio Prep! Part Two
Welcome Back to Another BobBlast!
This BobBlast is Part Two of "Ready, Set, Go… Studio Prep!" You could say that the theme of this BobBlast is "Now What… How I Start to Paint Loose, Small Warm-ups.” Thank you Cheryl Bree from Germany for suggesting I go to the next step!
Watch the demo to see how I get into my warm-up exercises for painting. I line up four 6x9 inch watercolor papers, pre-gessoed. They are taped down from the backside (no tape on the front). I do this so they don't slide around. I choose to quickly paint a simple object on a table, using loose, juicy colors. Examples of my warm-ups are coffee cups, fruits, vegetables and figures… at least four at a time. For this demo, I am painting a pear.
Keep in mind, there are many ways to get started. After thirty-five years of daily painting, this works for me. Follow these steps:
•Apply a mid-tone color all over. I've chosen Holbein's Marigold acrylic as my mid-tone.
•Using a big paint brush, I loosely sketch the shape of the pear-a ball with a triangle on top.
•Next, the pear sits on a white table, on top of its blue shadow. Placing the shadow helps you know where the light source is coming from. This light comes from the left side and continues to light the wall on the right side.
•Dark against Light… Dark against Light
Within fifteen minutes you will have started to paint four small works of art! Practice this daily. In one month, you will have started one hundred twenty paintings!
I work on multiples because the more I do, the looser and better I get. Practice, practice, practice!
Creating a Series is part of the Loosen Up Workshop Retreat! I have an In-Person Loosen Up Workshop in my Studio coming up in a few months! There are more in-person Loosen Up Workshops scheduled in Bar Harbor, Maine and Hermosa Beach, CA. Join us! Reserve your spot today!

Love this wonderful demonstration! Great to watch you paint! People: he makes it look easy but it is NOT. Do not be fooled. Kudos to you Bob! Thank you for being an inspiration.
Love them pears Bob. Fabulous as always. ❤👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks Bob. Watching you always inspires me to paint!
I love that chicken sheet
Love how you say "get in and get out" and "dark against light".
These are all important sayings to remember when practicing art.
You make it look so easy but as you've said....practice and art isn't supposed to be perfect!
Very helpful hints to all of your students, even us online!
Thanks Bob😊

Man you always inspire Bob!!!💃💃😄🫶ty!,!❤️❤️
Thank you Bob, you are so inspiring ❤
Love your enthusiasm and inspiration! Sometimes what gets in my way is perfection…it takes the joy away. Thank you for reminding me that not every piece of work will be good.
Your warm ups are good enough to hang!
Thanks Bob, I'm going to give it a go, as my problem is I get bogged down in the details and worry it won't look good enough. Glad I found you channel
We need you now more than ever, Bob!
Thank you. ❤
Love this. I'd love to see the chicken tutorial
Thank you Robert. I have chronic fatigue and I could not start painting. I had lost my energy for it, confidence and saw it as stress. I have been putting into practice your advice and I am feeling so much better and just done a vase of flowers, practiced making a mess and started a series on Genesis 1 study on water. 😊
Thankyou bob it’s been watching you what you share and have been practicing since then . Now selling too ! Tjankyou so much for bringing he sunshine in my life - india
Had requested for figurative faces can you please do that sometime . Thankyou in advance
Great!
❤❤❤ love to watch the video and happy to subscribed to you ❤ 👍
😊
So good! You lost the table edge on the right side, intentional?
Hi. What medium are you using? Thank you. From Philippines.
What is the most cost effective paper to use for the warm up and still ‘do the job’?
No point directing a question to Bob. He never answers any of his followers. Mind you, why should he? He's too busy having fun creating wonderful art. So be happy with the tutorials. 👍
