    Best of BobBlast - Practicing with Effective Color Combinations
    Welcome Back to Another BobBlast!
    This week I am in the midst of a private lesson in my studio! I enjoy working one-on-one with painters who just need/want some mentoring! We are working with concepts and color, so I thought it would be great to share this Best of BobBlast about color combinations.
    Many of you have asked where my Goof-Proof Color Wheel can be purchased. I sell them on my website - you can have a physical one shipped to you, or a digital that you print out! But here is the BEST NEWS: I have a Color Wheel app - info is on my website.
    Now… on to this week’s BobBlast!
    Practice makes perfect... or something like that! I just like being in the studio! This BobBlast is all about the starting points of a painting - one of my 4 Cs that i determine before starting to paint:
    What is the Concept?
    What is the Composition?
    What is the Color Combination?
    and Stay Committed to all of the above!
    To determine your Color Combination, use a Color Wheel - It's one of your tools in your toolbox. All of the pleasing combinations have been worked out for us on the Standard Color Wheel - and if you are just getting started, practice painting with a triadic color combination, like Red, Yellow and Blue.
    Besides the Standard Color Wheel, I could also use my own Goof-Proof Color Wheel - using only 4 colors for a painting... in today's demo, you will see me practice with Holbein Acrylic Inks and Titanium White.
    For this demo, here is my Color Combination, using my Goof-proof Color Wheel:
    Dominant Color is Blue
    Focal Point Color is Red Yellow
    Spice Colors are Magenta and Green Yellow
    The dominant color blue has already been spread on the surface. The background is a loose abstract. My concept is to paint a vertical figure on top of the abstract.
    Summary:
    Concept is a Figure in an Abstract
    Composition is Vertical
    Color combination is Blue Dominant
    After the dominant color is on the surface of the painting, I add the focal point color - as a loose figure. The spice colors are always placed near the focal point. Then I re-establish the dominant color for more contrast.
    This loose painting warmup exercise gets me going early in the studio and in my workshops. Keep your brushes wet!

    Awe Bob your colour wheel is invaluable. I always use it as a guide when painting. keeping it simple in my opinion is the way to go. Love your personality and of course your paintings. Thankyou.🙂🙂🙂

    BOB, Your style, approach and teaching methods are brlliant. I am very interested in your colour wheel. Why not make it available to everyone through Amazon? I am in UK and it is not straight forward to pay in pounds. I simply love your colours and how you make it sound so easy to learners and I bet it is not as easy as it looks!!

    Bob, what happens with the colour wheel if the dominant colour is also the focal point? Like if I'm painting an elk portrait - brown/orange, I would put the background blue. But my dominant color is not blue. Thanks Bob.

    • @user-kq7he5il9i
      @user-kq7he5il9i Před 11 měsíci +1

      I think I should have watched the video before asking my question! The focal point does not have to be small! The background color, like you said, is the dominant color! This is incredibly useful and I'm going to go work on my painting!!

    • @RobertBurridge
      @RobertBurridge Před 10 měsíci

      Thanks for your question. Remember, my Goof-Proof Color Wheel is not configured the way the standard color wheel is. Establish your overall dominate color first, then add the focal point - the 2 spice colors augment the focal point. Play with it.
