    I like this thing but the display is so dark that you can't see anything when you shooting outside. And it would be very handy if the AB points give some vibrations so that you dont have to turn the wheel the whole length. Thanks for the tutorial!

    Great details video, While doing the auto calibration the motor keeps running. It does not work with the wheel. When I want to stop the motor, I have to remove the cable directly from the p-tap battery, then only does it stop running. Why doesn't the wheel run with the motor? Thank you

    My lens doesn't have infinity - the focus wheel doesn't ever stop (sony g master 24-70) How do i calibrate it this way? I have used the gear rings that come with it, do I also need to cut off the excess gears ?

  • @TheeSarahWood
    @TheeSarahWood Před 4 lety +1

    I have a lens with hard stops but when it goes the second direction it doesn’t stop trying to spin the lens and I have to remove the motor from the ring because it never stops. What am I missing?

    • @RayValencia
      @RayValencia  Před 4 lety

      Interesting. Is this happening after you run the Auto Calibrate? It just doesn't remember the 2nd Hard Stop on the handwheel? Maybe factory reset it?
      Or it happens while you are running the Motor Calibration? It hits the first hard stop no problem, but then it just doesn't stop on the second hard stop? This may not be related, but I found that tightening the tiny little Allen screw that holds the 15mm rod in place came loose once, so my motor would slip off the ring every time it hit a Hard Stop. Make sure that 15mm rod isn't loose and twisting in the sleeve that holds it in place.

    • @RayValencia
      @RayValencia  Před 4 lety

      Might be an extra step (that you shouldn't have to take) but you could always manually set your Min and Max focus if you are really in a pinch or need this for a shoot right away.

    Great review man! Can you use it on electronic lenses? (Focus by wire) and still pull rack focus? IS the speed od follow focus linear?

    • @RayValencia
      @RayValencia  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Tomas. Yes, I use it on my Sigma 14-24mm, linear focus by wire lens, but it works better on mechanical focus and Cine lenses. For those, it's extremely precise and will land on the exact marks every time. But on focus by wire lenses, they usually don't have any focus markings, so if you pull focus quickly on the wheel, it will respond with that same torque and speed and the FBW lens will lose precise calibration. It will still work though, but mechanical and Cine are where it shines.

    • @RayValencia

      Try to lessen how hard you are clamping your motor against the lens gear. Sometimes too much pressure can cause that. Also, how are you giving power to the motor? 5V USB power? That could be too weak for your lens. If you watch my other 2 videos on this it may explain more about power, Part 2 was about using this system on Ronin-S, and Part 3...about using this system on professional cinema rigs with V-Mount batteries, etc.

    If you buy a side handle and nucleas nano separately which micro USB male to male is best ?

    • @RayValencia
      @RayValencia  Před 3 lety +1

      The Nucleus-N comes with a Micro USB to Micro USB cable. What really matters is the Voltage your ports are outputting to the motor. 5V isn't enough power for my lenses, but 8V-12V is perfect for almost any lens. And I use 14V-16V like a V-Mount battery for enough power to turn big Cinema Lenses, or a Tight Zoom Ring.

  • @pk-meedia7804
    @pk-meedia7804 Před 4 lety +1

    Hey, question about calibrating non cine lens. I assume it auto calibrates cine lenses detecting hard stops. When in a hurry, can you calibrate non cine lens with auto calibration in a way that you stop focus ring by hand when in reaches one side (like the ronin-s calibration of non cine lenses is done) and grab again when it reaches the other end ? It should be alot faster than fiddling around with disconnecting motor etc...

    • @RayValencia
      @RayValencia  Před 4 lety

      Hey PK. I totally agree that it should be faster for Auto calibrate. The catch and go method doesn't seem to work like the Ronin-S motor did for me. I've used that one too, but the downside is, it only works on the Ronin. The Tilta ff can be used on and off the gimbal and it only costs like $30-60 more than the DJI one. The good thing is, once you're calibrated, the handwheel itself has hard stops that map out the entire length of your focus throw. So if you have a lens with a short focus throw, you get a full rotation on the Tilta handwheel for that short throw so it actually makes the lens better for focusing.

    • @pk-meedia7804
      @pk-meedia7804 Před 4 lety

      @@RayValencia yup, when calibrating on Ronin-s motor, its the same way (get full focus throw after calibration. However i am in a look for independent wireless follow focus, i have my eye also on pdmovie live air 2 wireless sytem as well. Seems smaller, more compact and easy calibration. But haven't decided yet.

      I just got mine and I’m setting it up right now. I am powering everything on my rig off a 5.5 mm barrel plug so I am able to tap into my Moza air two or my V mount and I will probably be able to use my NPF plate with two barrel plugs on it or if not then I will just run it through the splitter. Since my black magic camera and this nucleus are so flexible with power inputs, I just run them both into a barrel plug splitter and I can plug that into just about anything. I haven’t tried AC power yet but I think the voltage would be right.

    • @RayValencia
      @RayValencia  Před 3 lety +2

      Hey Alex. The motor itself needs its own power supply. And the more power you are able to give it, the more torque the motor will have and faster response time. 5V will be slower and less responsive. 8V is reliable. And 12V is lightning fast and super strong.
