  • During our recent visit to the US over Christmas, both my mom and sister tried some Danish Lakrids. My American mom loves licorice, so each visit I try to bring back something strong enough to throw her off. See how she does this round when she tries Haribo Super Piratos and Tyrkisk Peber.

    The kinda strongest current one I know is from Lakrids BY BÜLOW their skeleton shake. The licorice itself isn't that salty but it has a container of pure salmiak (ammonium chloride) to shake the licorice in.

  • @charlotte1704
    @charlotte1704 Před 2 lety +10

    Haha, coming from a salty licorice loving Swede-Dane spilling a little secret; The spicy stuff in the center is ammonium chloride powder, it’s what makes it so salty 😂 And you’re supposed to SUCK ON IT, not chew, THEN it becomes H-O-T 😂 There’s a little hole on one of the sides on the candy, and the powder mixes with it in your mouth whilst you’re sucking on it, and in the process, you’re swallowing, which is when it, mixed with your saliva, goes down your throat 😂

  • @tobimobiv1
    @tobimobiv1 Před 2 lety +8

    Yeah the Tyrkisk peber is candy not torture. It's for hygge under a blanket. It's not supposed to be like eating chilli peppers. But I can relate that if you go into it with the mindset that this is gonna be Carolina reaper level, that you'll be let down. And the fact they just had a super piratos might also numb their tastebuds a little towards the liquorice taste.
    On that note very enjoyable video as always. I appreciate all the effort you guys put into making all this content for us to enjoy.

    The only thing I can think of left would be Dracula hard candies and salte søstjerner (or djunglevrål)
    Dacula candies are coated a generous layer of very salty liquorish powder which should make most liquorish haters spit them out immediately.
    Søstjerner and djunglevrål are a bit like piratos in hardness, but they're sweeter. On the outside, they're sprinkled in salmiak salts to give a very salty initial punch, though it doesn't last long.
    I saw someone else suggest the kingfisher liquorish pellets from Matas and I need to give those an honorable mention. They're not salty in the same way as what you've tried before, but they're very concentrated and made from pure liquorish and nothing else.
    On the topic of the video, I want to say that Piratos is the usual trial by fire. If you can enjoy those, you can usually enjoy most liquorish candy. Turkish pepper initially is not so bad, but it *does* get a bit spicier the longer you have it in your mouth. You *can* get liquorish with chili in them, but then you're moving into a different kind of "burn".

    Liqurice is an excellent candy. We agree with Josh mom and will make her an honourary citizen.
    There are different versions of Liqurice, alot of people outside of Scandinavia struggle with the chocolate/Liqurice combo, might be worth looking up.
    You can also go for Salmiakki, which has a strong salmiak flavour.

    What you have is the good stuff. I also like Jungelvrål, lakrisal and, in another taste direction entirely, engelsk lakrids. That last is hard to find, but people sell it on the internet. It has no ammonium chloride, but is still very intense liquorice.
    As a child, as a treat, I would occasionally get liquorice powder and powdered ammonium chloride and mix them to my own taste. You can get those from places selling Bolche making supplies.
    I also like the dark mix from Sømoeds Bolcher. Extremely wonderful liquorice candy.

    Okay...first of all, Mayas reactions are _priceless!!_ Joannes are a close 2nd 👍👍 IMHO, unless the licorices (like the Super Piratos etc) have been in a _quite_ warm spot, they're gonna be relatively hard. In that case, just keep it in your cheek so it softens up, then swallow the licorice-saliva and keep shifting the licorice from side to side as you suck on it.
    As for the _Turkish Pepper_ bon-bons.... I agree....they're not as hot as they make them out to be on the packet. You also have to take into concideration that in general, Danes don't eat particularly spicy food... I remember back in the early 80s when I first tasted them....they were definately _hotter_. There is another variant of them on the market which is supposedly hotter (I _think_ the packet/bag is red).
    The vodka shot you should _definately_ make yourself. Get a packet of the _Turkish Pepper_ and crush them all so you can pour them down into the vodka bottle....then do the same with a packet of _Stærke Gustav_. Allow the vodka to dissolve the sugars for _at least 3-4 weeks, then enjoy. You can substitute the _Stærke Gustav_ with e.g. crushed _Spejder Hagl_ to round off the taste...
