Music video by Tom Jones, The Cardigans performing Burning Down The House. (C) 2003 Universal Music TV, a division of Universal Music Operations Ltd.
#TomJones #BurningDownTheHouse #Vevo - Hudba
According to an interview with Nina , Tom entered the studio , chatted for 5-10 minutes , prepared 2 minutes and then nailed his singing part in the first take.
Well... He is Tom Jones.
I'm picturing Krusty the Clown in the Malibu Stacey episode
The best part is, he looks like he is having the time of his life. Of course he usually looks that way when he is singing. I like to think that the thoughts in his head are, "They are paying to do this? Hell yeah!"
I always watched this video when is there no youtube before thru MTV...it looks cool and edgy the cardigans and tom jones
Well, Tom Jones is the man ELVIS wanted to grow up to become.
Tom Jones absolutely nails this.
Welsh sheep shagger init!
Sure does bro!
Whoever thought to pair up Jones and the Cardigans to cover this song is a freakin' genius.
They had hallucinations from the heart ❤
@@markpetersen2469 I heard Tom and Tony Iommi are friends...be cool to hear what they'd come up with.
Exactly what I thought at the time, but brilliant collaboration 👏🏻
It was the suggestion of Tom's son(I cannot remember his name) to confab with The Cardigans, Mousse T, Sterophonics, Heather Small, all in the same year
I turn 66 in March. Back in the early to mid 1970’s my maternal grandmother was the same age I am now. I was extremely close to her. I spoke with her multiple times a day even throughout high school. She was a strong, wonderful woman, but very religious. She never cursed and never drank a drop of liquor until she was in her mid 80’s and went to Europe to celebrate after having both her hips and knees surgically replaced! She had ONE glass of wine in France to celebrate.
So back in the early to mid 70’s she called and my mom answered the phone. My mom spoke to her for awhile and then asked if I wanted to talk to my Granny. I was lying in the floor watching one of the talk/variety shows (not sure if it was Mike Douglas or Dick Cavett or who….) I was very eagerly awaiting #TomJones to come out and perform. I told my mom to tell Granny I would call her back after I watched Tom Jones. My mother relayed the message. Suddenly, my mom yelled, “MOTHER! What did you say? WHERE DID YOU HEAR THAT?!?” Tom wasn’t on yet so I instantly asked what Granny said. My mom was shocked. She finally blurted out: “Your GRANDMOTHER wants to know if you’re creaming your jeans waiting for Tom Jones!” My jaw DROPPED. I said I would figure it all out AFTER Tom Jones performed. I watched Tom and as usual: HUBBA HUBBA! ❤
I called my Granny back. I thought she couldn’t possibly know what that phrase meant, but it seems one of my male cousins who was in college at the time had taken it upon himself to keep our very religious, but very cool grandma apprised of all the hip lingo.
She knew what it meant and thought it was hilarious. She admitted to me years later when I was an adult that her saying that was the closest she ever came to cursing. But she felt it was important especially since she also liked Tom Jones.
Generations of women bonding over Sir Tom Jones for decades. We will always love you, Tom! ❤❤❤
Let's be fair, Jones was a huge sex symbol back then, and I guess he still is.
The man has a voice that is ageless, it seems.
@@ThatOpalGuy All the women in my family, past and present, agree with you! 🤣♥🤣
I am a Talking Heads purist, but oh mah GAWD! I can't believe I have lived this long, without seeing this video. Brilliant!
I'm curious to hear what you think of the Paramore version that just releases then
@@Glenn_3 😍 Thank you for the recommendation! I listened to that, then the Wet Leg version of "C'est Comme Ça", which led me to Paramore's "This is Why", (which had me cranking up my McIntosh Amp...
And now I am perusing the Paramore greatest Hits. I have a feeling it is going to keep me busy for a bit! 🙂
@@rngod2121oh my god, really?! That makes me so happy to hear Paramore is my favourite band ever and it makes me happy to have introduced someone to Paramore for the first time and them seeing how good it is. There is a lot to go through so you have a lot to look forward to. Feel free to keep me updated, I'd love to hear your opinion ☺️
Right, I didn't know this existed
Yeah
This is great. I love it that Tom Jones stays relevant by teaming up with current artists. His voice is one of few of the old guard that has survived beautifully.
Tom Jones always performs like it's the last song he'll ever sing.
current fucking artists...seriously...you do know it's bloody 2024 yeah...fucking muppet 🤣🤣🤣
The Cardigans are not current artists. They’re 90s artists that stopped releasing albums in 2005 with no intentions on making any more albums as the key songwriter left the group.
@@thosemonsters who gives a fuck 🤷🏻♂🤷🏻♂🤷🏻♂

Nina has a fantastic voice and Sir Tom is an absolute legend. I'm sure David Byrne is proud of this cover version.
Its 2023 and this house is stil burning.
Tom & Nina rules.
You should hear the original. This is okay but doesn't hold a candle to the talking heads.
@@myrhev I know that. Talking heads are great. I`m old enough to knowing original first.
I like original and this one the same. But in diferent way. New wave music was special for me.
And greetings from Slovenia.
@@milosmevzelj5205 🙂
The contrast between Tom's bombastic vocals and Nina's cool vocals make this song so special.
Totally agree. I loved this track growing up. They're so brilliant in each of their vocal ranges. Works perfectly. And Tom Jones is just such a legend
Don’t forget about the great song
Nina sounds like Sheryl Crow...
@Clarkobi Kentobey - In this context, it totally works...
Nina has zero funk. This song requires funk. Do not agree. Tom crushes it here though.
edit: i like her addition as backup vocals on the chorus here. her tone works well there.
double edit: need to rinse my ears with some david byrne
A lot of singers can be personalities, Tom Jones is an ENTERTAINER!
Mr. Jones is everything but an ordinary guy.
yeah obviously...he's a sheep shagging welsh taffy
Saw Tom perform last night, he’s 82 (almost 83) and put on a great show and his voice is as strong as ever!
so lucky... as of today no one else will ever have that chance #RIPTomJones
@@arniezambrano6594 that was a different Tom Jones
yep I just found out
Yeah it happens sometimes my own father with a great voice died at 86 yrs in ‘19 and STILL had vocal talent too(!) which I was more than a little impressed about 😃
Tom Jones is an example of what excellent musical training, natural musicianship and passionate delivery can do to any song.
Hold those words till u hear his version of the skye boat song!!!
Everything is awesome
@@malcolmhepburn999 it's great
@DJRICKYDEEUK this original is from such a long time ago
True
One of the best covers of the 90’s? Who’s still burning down the house in 2024?
If you're still burning your house down nearly 3 decades later then you're doing it wrong.
I know that the roof , the roof is on fire
NOt any more...doing 10 ! possible parole though
Yes!!
If you dont know this Song Is a cover.
It was originally made by the talking heads in 1983
If anyone can take it over the top, Tom can. So fun.
And I love the dichotomy of Nina's answers.
I love the contrast between their voices. Tom voice is so powerful and masculine. Nina's is so gentle, calm and feminine.
Tom Jones is an absolute legend who has always kept up with the times but never selling out his style. I completely applaud him for doing so. This version rocks! :)
Not rock thugh. Music for our Moms
Un crack Tom Jones

Yeah, but some of Tom’s looks!😂
Fantastic.
Tom's voice is at its best when he's belting a song out. No half measures.
His voice like a cranked Marshall.
EXCELLENT EXPERIENCE REALLY COOL THANKYOU FOR INCLUDING ME AWESOME Haven't seen this video clip in a long time
😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃❤❤❤❤👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
I am blown away.
My adolescence is shaken.
Tom Jones is THE MAN!
So many musicians just become kind of pathetic when they get older and still try to compete with the young ones. Tom Jones is one of the few who can pull it off. Even at his age, he's still got it.
What about Ringo? What's my name?
I don't think their pathetic, they just love what they doing for years...
Tom Jones, Cher, the Stones, AC DC..! They’re still like in their youth!! Truly timeless!!
Kat Jasper Yes, I know. Although Axel Rose doesn’t completely fit in, the band is still amazing at its core. And the Death of the original lead singer is already a while back, isn’t it..?
Pathetic is the wrong word.
It's impressive how their voices completed each other.
Yeah, but pretty much everyone is weak compared to Tom. It would have to be Tina Turner to make a good mach.
No,she isn't---she has a lovely old school voice. Never heard of this cover, but I love me some Talking Heads---these two do make an interesting duo, though. And I like both Jones and the Cardigans--I never understood why they never had another hit besides "Lovefool" which was a great song, bwt.
The Cardigans best song is My Favourite Game
Then would be two powerful voices. The gimmick here is a powerful and a sweet one.
I really like this version. :-)
The king of Wales 🏴 ❤️
Doesn't get more "1999" than this.
Can go years without listening to this, and it’ll still pop into my head sporadically. So much passion for a relatively fun song 🫡
I never thought I could enjoy a cover of Burning Down the House, but that was just too much fun. I'm also not familiar with the Cardigans, but now I'll have to look them up. That woman has a wonderful voice.
Please do - they were quite big back then (deservedly so).
BTW 'My Favourite Game' - there are videos with several different endings. The 'Stone' variant is the best ......... IMO ;)
Tom Jones.
The Mike Tyson of lounge bar pop.
tyson the rapist yeah!
This is so damn awesome I just can't stop listening to it. Don't get me wrong The originals amazing and I love the talking heads but you just can't hear the lyrics in it very well. These singers both just really bring it out!
It's not unusual...to love this version.
I see what you did there.
Tom Jones: the definition of coolness in 7 decades and counting.
Its funny when a guy nearly 80 is one of the coolest guys on the planet.
Sometimes it takes time to recognize great talent. I guess it is so uncommon that we couldn’t see it. No one sings like Tom Jones.
First time hearing this! What a banger. Tom could still belt it out. And the sultry Nina's voice was perfect along side.
Love Tom Jones. He kills this song. Just as energetic as ever. So cool.
Tom Jones.. On one day he saves Earth from an alien invasion, on another day he reappears on CZcams to burn down the House.. LEGEND.

100percentmobile HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH GREAT
And women are STILL throwing their panties at this dude. LEGEND!!!
Felix Brown he's even before my time! And Im 56. My mom loved him and all those 70s housewives.but I didn't when I was a kid but by the time I was 18, I loved his soulful strong voice.
The handmaids tale season 2 episode 13
What is happening here? How have I not heard this previously? Not sure I can endorse this, but a must listen at least once.
We all need more Tom Jones.
The ultimate panty collector
TOMMYS BOLLOCKS ARE ROUND AND HEAVY.
Tom Jones absolutely smashes this
Tom Jones smashes all the other tracks from the Reload album too. Especially the duets with Cerys Matthew (Baby It's Cold Outside), The Manic Street Preachers (I'm left, She's Right, I'm Gone), this and The Stereophonics (Mama Told Me Not To Come).
FightFairLoseEasy. Dumb he doesnt even kno what the songs about
oiyabastard and you do?
I saw Tom Jones at the Hollywood Bowl a few years ago. He was fantastic. Go see him if you get a chance.
The mark of a great singer - the ability to move from decade to decade and embrace the new. Absolute legend!
that was delightfully (& suprisingly) funky!
Posted 3 years ago?!? I can't believe it took me this long to stumble on to this! Thank you, CZcams suggestions!!!!

He can blow them away but he is careful here.
I'm energized. Thank you, Tom Jones.
Wow! That was better than I expected. Cardigans...whatever -- this was all Tom Jones.
Tom Jones literally a force of nature, Nina Persson an incredibile interpreter too and on top of that she looks like a goddess
I remember when this song came out, my mother who has been out of touch with music for a long time just turned and said.... Tom Jones is still singing??? :))
Right on, mom!! 😃 That's so great!
I just heard this on the radio, but only heard the group as "The Cardigans." When I heard the voice I knew it was either Tom Jones or the lead singer had a heck of a voice. What a happy surprised to learn it is the man himself! I usually don't like covers, but I like this one. btw - I don't know if I'm your mother's age, but I was a kid when Jones became popular, so yeah, this was a surprise.
@@calendarpage You should check out the whole record then. This album was just Tom Jones and guest artists doing cover songs and nailing every one of them. Tom Jones and the Divine Comedy doing All Mine by Portishead is a huge high-point.
Nina has the coolest voice ever❤
THE Tom Jones doing David Byrne??? I ask myself, MY GOD! WHAT HAS HE DONE!
😂🤣😅👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Well played sir 👍
strange..... but not a stranger
This is not my Bewtiful house !! 😁
Very good
I don’t think there will ever be another with the voice quality and sound of Tom Jones.
Taylor swift and Neil diamond did a great job with this song. I could listen to over and over all day and night for years.
A long time since I heard this last nice to hear it again.
Tom Jones' voice is so accurate for this song
Quite the opposite, it's so out of place it's cringeworthy.
You're joking, right? Tom Jones smashes this.
Yep, he smashes it, but clashes with instrumentals, doesn't fit in with a style and takes the spotlight. Byrne's voice suites the song, the climate , even the lyrics perfectly.
i don't think i could agree less, Jerzy:)
Well, that's the beauty of music : ) I'm glad you're digging it, probably if I wasn't such a TH die-hard fan, I would too. All the best, cab captain!
This is one of the best songs I've ever heard. Sexy and clear vocals. Tom Jones is still one of the hottest singers, he's never lost his edge. To span so many generations and still sing that well, just Wow. Amazing.
It can actually compete with the original, written and recorded by the Talking Heads around 1980-1981.
There are videos here on YT. Pick the 1982 live version (think it is from a concert in L.A)
@@abocas It's much better than Talking Heads. I'm so impressed 😁😎

If Tom Jones is an ordinary guy, then I must be living in a different universe.
Super-cool delivery left, right and centre. Loving Nina Persson's stylish stance and overwhelmingly understated eyebrow work next to Sir Tom's almost psychedelic facial expressions. Priceless, and timeless.
Something sure can sweep me off my feet

His voice is so powerful, he blew out a large number of microphones in the recording studio over the years.

Very cool, timeless cover.
My dad took me to my first concert in the early 70s..... Tony Orlando and Dawn opened for Tom Jones..... I was amazed at his voice.... and the womens reaction..... he became an instant hero!!!!!!
As Talking Heads & Cardigans fan.... why didn't I ever hear this before now?? Love it!!
Tom Jones covering Talking Heads is something I never knew I needed
This is so awesome! The on-point vocals, the shimmery latex-clad dancers, the obvious fun everyone is having, and, of course, the great squelchy timeless funk of the song itself. What an inspired remake! An unabashed treat. Go Tom! Go Nina!
Who would have thunk it ? Well done
As an 80’s kid with a Scottish mum!
She played Tom jones all the time.
Tom plays a major part of my childhood soundtrack.
As much as I die a little when that lady raises her left eyebrow - I just keep rewatching this. And unlike many of their “mainstream hits” - this tune showcases that band is full of weapons grade musicians. Effing tight. Oh - and Tom Jones being that force no other man can in the world.
you sound low-key sexist
Yeah, the eyebrow and that cheeky grin showing the gold tooth. sigh
Tom Jones is the coolest at any age.
Remember watching him back in the late 60's as a little kid...looks like music keeps you young!
Fight fire with fi ahh yur ! Mr Jones haa a good voice threw that vocal with a ease
I was just a kid when this was released…. I used to get so excited when it came on MTV each time… The Cardigans and Tom Jones just kept releasing hit after hit… (“Sex Bomb” etc)… I just fell in love with both of them at that time ❤
This song got me onto Tom Jones and helped get me onto Talking Heads, it's pretty much my favourite song of the era.
Her quirky smile at 2:08 makes my heart flutter
I have no idea why this video gets me. Love Cardigans. Love Tom Jones. This video hits well.
Tom Jones was never really my kind of artist, but when this came out (in 1999), he became relevant to me.
Tom Jones interview: walks into music studio - sings the lines from cue cards with pure Tom Jones energy, finished the set in a few minutes - legend.
Tom Jones...always a stellar showman and passionate singer. I've always loved him. He doesn't take himself too seriously. Always seems to be having a blast.
I have no idea how or why that worked as well as it did but yeah, it did.
