Now that was exiting! Those are some big beautiful woods & Smoke navigated them perfectly to get that deer. What a dog! That deer went a long way, you probably would have lost that buck without Smoke. We had some good tracking Beagles here in central FL back in the day but nothing like the Smoke...Congrats!

With Cody having an interest in dogs, and him getting closer to driving age might be good for you and him to get into. You could breed a litter, pick a couple good ones, you've got enough does to shoot and know enough hunters to train up a dog. With your guidance in a few years Cody could be a top tracker around your area. Sure would be a fun way to make side money, and a bonus it would make great video content.

Those cur dogs are awesome brother, I have one but momma wouldn't let me train him for tracking, I just use my blutick. In my 35 yrs of hunting I've only tracked 1 deer that was still alive with a dog and man thats adrenaline just a running through your bones my friend. Good stuff but you definitely gotta be careful that's fir sure. Glad you got him. That deer there definitely got a mess of stuff on his head dont he jason. Heckuva deer bro

Nice deer. Here in Ohio and other Midwest states, it's not legal to carry a weapon on a track with a dog. The handlers keep the dog on a long leash and pull the dog off if the deer is still alive, then it's up to the hunter to go back in and finish the job.

I done learned from messing up to many time that i always put a second vital shot in a deer when i drop one i immediately get off a second shot i have had them drop look dead and get up and haul ass 20min later like they wasnt even hurt so i always put another one in them no matter how good of a shot i think i put unless ik hes double lunged but i have seen high shots drop deer and not break the spine and they get up and never die end up getting killed later on

Congrats on getting him, that was cool. You can beat a good black mouth cur. They do it all very well, tracking, baying, and catching. They're smart, one of the best black mouths I ever had I named King, I would put him in the back of the truck and drive the roads on the ranch, and when he barked I would stop and he would just look at me waiting for me to tell him to go ahead, and when I did he would jump out hit the track and before you know it he had one bayed up. And he knew which hogs he could catch by himself, and which ones to keep bayed until the catch dogs showed up, and then he would catch. you could tell by his bark when he needed backup. He was a smart boy.

Nice deer glad you found him with that super Smoke tracking dog , he was a tough old warrior, I’ve had a few hard to kill with 30/30, 12 gauge even had 1 I knocked down 3 times with a 7 mag before he finally stayed down, haven’t had to worry about it with my 300 mag though, I like that bladed right main beam , super video 🤙🏼
