Thinking about starting a new channel and deleting this one...

- I’ll do a video soon going into more detail, but basically, in 4 years, ever since Casey Neistat grew my channel by over 100,000 new followers in 2 days after flying with me. This channel has stayed at 224,000 to 225,000 followers. And I'll be honest, I don't really care. I don't monetize my videos. I've only done 1 brand deal on IG and it was a pretty bad experience. So I don't really care about the #'s anymore, but I don't want to put work into something that's broken.
I'm not trying to complain about never growing, but it just seems weird. My channel grew like this:
Started Channel. Slowly grew to 10,000 followers.
Smarter Every Day Collab 10,000 to 20,000 overnight.
Grew to 30,000
Life of Tom - Mr. Syndicate 30,000 to 80,000
Fun for Louis and others.
Grew to 125,000 and then Casey came...
125,000 to 225,000!
Since then, Jon Olsson, Peter McKinnon, Sam Kolder, ijustine, Hat Films, Tom Scott, Sawyer Hartman, FlightChops, Sarah Underwood, and some pretty big actors and celebs ... basically 0 new followers
Last week, a massive channel called Daily Dose of Internet shared a clip. My comment on their video has over 22,000 likes and hundreds of comments. Social Blade showed 0 new followers and then finally grew by 1000 after 3 days. 0 since then
I think CZcams flagged me as a scam account (Buying followers or something) because of how I grew and has throttled the channel ever since.
So, if I'm going to put effort into CZcams, it really doesn't make any sense to try to grow this channel.
There is nothing there yet, but this is what I'm thinking. Mr. Bentley and Brad. (Open to different name ideas if any has any)

So what got me thinking about re-starting was talking with Peter McKinnon the other day. He wants to come back when things get more normal in the world, and we were talking about why and if I'm ever coming back to CZcams. I explained the channel and he thought it's screwed. It was his suggestion to just start fresh.
CZcams been shooting itself in the foot for years and it's only going to get worse. Start another channel on another platform. LBRY is blockchain based P2P and UNcensorable. These platforms are the future.
I've never watched a "Casey Neistat" video, Brad, nor do I know who "Peter McKinnon" is. :)
Its truly mind blowing how these mid social media platforms preach that they are an open and welcoming bias. But at the end of the day, all they care about is getting people to click on videos. So if your videos aren't aligned with the current public eye, you get no support from them. Sad to hear this is happening to you. I totally support the idea of starting fresh.
I followed after the Hat Films trip, but I stopped watching, to me this channel is the same thing over and over again.
It gives me an impression of trying to get followers using an expensive helicopter and a cute dog.
I prefer science channels that keep being able to explore new discovery.
Another type of channel I follow is for the personality of the host, often playing a random game.

While I usually do not watch your videos, this title caught my eye and you asked for feedback in the description.
I wish you the best and it is great that you share experiences with others.
To me it just feels very much like someone offering a ride in a Ferrari in order to gain friends, or in this case: followers.
I would honestly be more interested in you as a person at a kitchen table.
Because I would be there for you and your personality.
Not the expensive helicopter ride.
I don't have much of a clue of CZcams algorithms or anything but TBH, my opinion always was "Qualität setzt sich durch" (I'm German) which means as much as "quality speaks for itself / will persevere". And the quality of videos man, it's f* great! But then frequency is also a biiig big factor! And a storyline.
And I see neither of those in your channel, if you uploaded every week or two - that's already a frequency. And a storyline: maybe you could do an actual overland journey with the heli? @sailinglavagabonde is a great sailing channel and they upload every week, have great content and -obviously- keep going from place to place, that makes it interesting and keeps you invested.
Aviation is maybe also more of a niche subject, it's too expensive for many to so it themselves (at least here in europe) but on the other hand many many find it interesting.

You’re penalized by the algorithm because you never release content. You’ll release for awhile and then give up. Or start something new. Or get restless. And then the content trickles out. And then it stops. And then maybe a year later you talk about starting up again or starting a new channel. And maybe you’ll release a few videos. But then you stop because of some reason. I’m not here to bash on you. Just release content consistently and work on users engaging with you. Because starting a new channel or account won’t do anything because you aren’t flagged on this account. It’s just that you’re not consistent enough with content. And I’ve been watching for years.
If you aren't enjoying making the content because of the way its performing and think it would be better to start a new channel then do it. You make awesome content, and it should be fun making it, so F' it. Start new! (There's definitely something to be said about falling off the algorithm and a point when starting new makes sense)

This is the most underrated comment, Trents an awesome bushpilot YT'er, If you look at his (and even Caseys) there's videos about dealing with creator burnout, slightly different thing but I feel it may be related. Im not even at that level, but if I would say anything, keep this channel, start new see how it goes and do what trent said. What makes you happy. But dont remove this content please

I'll be honest too: You have a lot of good content but you haven't put a lot of effort into the channel in years past. Like you said, you don't care. And it shows. I count approximately 11 videos in the past year or so. In the past three years I count about 18 videos (including the previously counted 11). Of course the channel hasn't grown.
Not trying to be a jerk and I am certainly no expert. A new channel isn't going to bring the audience. Just my two pennies worth.
You should read the vids description, even when he was uploading lots, and with some pretty big CZcamsrs in his vids, yet no or little subscribers. Seems pretty sketch, I'd start on a new channel.
@@NotBROLL From what I've heard from other CZcamsrs, consistency is key. If you want to expand your chanell, you need to have new content at the same time and on the same day of the week. The more the better, but not more than 1 video per day. I think the CZcams algorithm doesn't care that you had a big star on your video, but it matters if you are uploading all the time.

I'm one of the people that saw your clip no Daily Dose of Internet and subscribed, in my opinion even though your content is awesome its a little repetitive and that's probably why you're not growing as fast as you had hoped, I don't think youtube is throttling your account or anything so I think it's pointless starting over, I don't know exactly but maybe if you diversify your content a little bit you would gain more subs, anyway I don't know enough and haven't watched enough of your content to judge anything but that's just what I noticed so far and I'm trying to help because I honestly like your videos they're pretty great.
Sure. And that's what I'd do different in another account. More everything, not just 100% helicopters. But it's pretty hard to say that after working with massive channels like Peter McKinnon, 0 subs is just how hard CZcams is.

You might want to check out / reach out to the Channel 'Becki and Chris' they have a great diverse channel around Helicopters and Vlogging. If they managed to do well with Heli content then I am sure you can manage too with the great content you produce.

Then, working with massive channels drove 0... not less growth... 0 subs for years. I'm never going to upload constantly and diverse. There are parts of my life I don't want to share. I've had people find where I live and send me pics of my apartment. Find my phone #. Being that type of CZcamsr has no interest for me. I wanna share my hobby. That's all.

For the record, I've read the description. In my humble opinion, the first thing I'd try, if I were in your situation, would consist in putting effort in my content with the objective to grow. Definitely, delete 225k subs would not be my plan A.
But if you don't care that much about putting the time in CZcams, actually, with sporadic uploads, you still reach thousands views per vids, which is great.
Last thing, if you start a new channel, 9 out of 10, I probably won't ear from you anymore. I'm a fan, but not an hardcore one, probably as many of your actual subscribers.

I love your videos! I have been watching for 4 years and your channel is what got me into watching aviation videos on youtube in the first place. That's too bad that this channel is growing in such an odd way your videos are great and super unique and you definitely deserve more views. HOWEVER I would say to keep this channel up, there's a ton of amazing videos here that I'd still like to go back and watch. The video you made with Smarter Every Day is what really pushed me to move towards getting my PPL-H.
The CZcams system is a true fight, It might be worth starting over but it could end up being round 2 of the same fight. No matter the path taken, I shall be a subscriber, and I will always wish you luck. :)

Peter McKinnon is an expert so give his recommendations some serious thought. A quick observation: Casey's audience and your audience overlap a great deal (90%+) but people who watch Daily Dose of Internet are probably not the type to seek adventure and be interested in the outdoors or helicopters at all. I think your content doesn't have much of a story to it. I want to see the planning, setup, calling up friends and adventure at the destination of your helicopter tours. Or Bentley going from the streets of Sunset Dr in Vancouver to a mountain peak and then finishing off at your palace with a beer and posting a pic of Bentley in Instagram - currently your videos don't show the journey, just the destination. There is this guy named Forresty Forrest on CZcams (popular canadian CZcamsr) and in each video he hikes a new mountain and then cooks some seriously amazing food in his slow cooker, and he lives in a van.
My favourite video of yours was you planning to do something cool with the helicopter like water ski behind it and then showing all the challenges along the way.
Hey Bradley, I absolutely love this channel. Don't be discouraged by the number of followers because that can be misleading. I believe the key is to upload more often. Maybe at least once per week. There's a channel called Missionary Bush Pilot that's growing quite well. He has no celebrities, just raw flying. Organic growth is the key.
It's not the growth. I'm fine having a small channel. I'm niche and want to be there, but I'm not going to put effort into something that's actually dead. That CZcams has stuck a knife in. It's happened to other accounts before.
I don’t know enough about this to even think of offering advice. All I know is I love your videos. The are very well shot, the scenery is stunning. No matter what you decide, I am grateful for what you have shared so far.

Brad, I subbed several years ago, because you were making truly gorgeous videos - helicopters and Bentley and BC. I didn't really care much for the celebs; I get they probably helped grow the channel, but not why I was coming here.
Ultimately you do what you gotta do - hopefully you decide to re-upload the best bits (and the rest) of this channel to wherever you end up next. But please keep making the awesome content.

I think starting over has something exciting to it. And I don’t believe that means that all this content will just be gone, but I can see the frustration of not really knowing what’s the problem. I would be super excited for a fresh start
I love your content, the sense of freedom and adventure is something special, I would like a flying lessons series since I always wanted to learn how to fly and I have been told that it is super expensive.
As bulldog owner myself having Bentley as a co-pilot adds a huge amount of style and originality.
Just point us to your new channel when you have it.
Definitely worth keeping this channel for archival purposes. Get the MB&B channel going with content (could throw together a big "highlights" compliation) and leave this one with an explanation/Migration video. Best of luck to you however you wish to go forward.

I'm an aviation fanatic, love your dog, you got a really nice original way of making your videos and I think your backdrop of Canada is unbelievable. A lot of good memories on this channel. I found it after the Smarter everyday collab and was genuinely surprised to see some of my other favourite creators joining you for various flights including the Hat films guys.
I love the visuals and the shots from the helicopter. That’s as experience I never had, on a country I’ve never visited. This is very interesting. Going there to check the new channel.

Bradley, I’ll be honest. I came here because of Casey and I subscribed that day. It only took a few of your past videos for me to realize the Dragon Den connection. I remember watching that episode back in the day, in it’s original airing, here in Canada.
Whatever you, do I will continue to follow the journey. Being this channel or a new one. Please try to keep the old videos accessible. I do go back and watch them every now and then because they are great. Keep us posted and give Bentley a chin rub. Whatever brings you success, for the work inputted, is the key.

I never comment but I love your channel. I have seen every video you've ever posted. I love helicopters and you and your dog keep me going during this crazy pandemic. Don't worry about the followers or views, who cares, it sounds like you don't. I personally would love more content with you and flying and exploring. Maybe make a weekly vlog where you just explore a different area and go to it and point things out and fly back. It sounds crazy but the helicopter content, views and scenery keep me here. Dude I was just talking to emy instructor about how much your channel has inspired me to go get my private rotary wing. I just started a few weeks ago and we were talking about how much fun it would be to fly over BC because of how many videos I've seen of you doing just that. I think you're thinking about things the wrong way man. It's not about the views or the subscribers. It's about your journey and you having fun. You're just simply sharing that with the world. Just keep doing what you're doing man.

I don't think CZcams will let you have the same video on 2 channels. I'd probably do it slowly. Re-upload some of them to the new channel and delete them here.

@@bradleyfriesen keep this channel. Start a new channel don't mention new channel name in old channel. You can reupload old videos, but you have to re-export old videos using your video editing tool. You can't upload the same old video.

@@bradleyfriesen There is no problem having the same videos on two channels. I have done it with a colab show I tried. First channel just gets the list of duplicate vids in the copyright section. You can just ignore the messages.

I’m sure you can talk with someone from CZcams and get everything fixed. I see the point of leaving this broken one behind and I think that you could grow to 200k on a new one. But I don’t like the idea of giving up, don’t give up on this channel! You’re big enough and connected enough to get this fixed, do more collabs and start growing again! Best wishes Brad!

I just stumbled onto this channel a while back with the waterfall model photography shoots. Then finally subscribed when I discovered Mr. Bently, (being a dog lover). I enjoy watching the flights over the mountain tops. They're relaxing with some thrill for us flat-landers.
As a photographer and looking at new directions for myself I've been studying at some of the successful and longer running channels. Primarily I've been following Smarter Every Day , SloMo Guys, Farm Girl and the companion channel Exoman, some boating channels and a few photography channels. Now yours has been added to my list of ones I actually watch.
Most of my favorites ones have a variety of themes or story lines they alternate between. Pretty much like a television channel has different shows throughout the day and week. News, information, fictional entertainment, educational.
The most successful treat the videos as THE business or at least an important part of it. Many use their CZcams channels as advertising for their main business whether it's photography, car restorations, sailing charters, etc..
They all have their periods of ups and downs especially this past year. A number of them are bemoaning recent policy changes that effected their income streams. But with all of the platform choices I've only paid attention to CZcams and Vimeo. The others appear to be pandering to various factions but ultimately they'll probably fade away.
I love your content, whatever channel you do it on.

You could have a back up channel or 2nd channel and keep this one up. I hope you backed up you video's as these look like memory's that you may want to look back on at some point. Just a thought. Take care. - btw we are entering a new normal- the past is the past - it's better to keep your eye's open and get the feel for the new turf so to speak and then head into the future. The past is gone we only have today and dream of tomorrow.
Keep the channel. And come to EAA in here in Oshkosh someday soon.
At ~250k subscribers, its right in the sweet-spot. More regular uploads and monetization would likely help take 500k and 1M. Once there, then the algorithm takes it from there.
It also appears the algorithm doesn't like channels with large variations of content.

I've been a long time follower of your channel, I believe the reason you're stuck subscriber wise is aviation is very much a niche, and rotorwing is even more so. I'm not sure what the right action would be, but rest assured I'll be following your new channel.
Not that it matters why I came (Hat Films if anyone wants to know), but I stayed for your content. I mean the places you go and see are so amazing and jaw dropping that in one of your videos there legit was a beautiful model doing a photoshoot in it, and I felt like she wasn't near as interesting and awesome to look at as the footage of your flight to get her to the location (and she was very interesting to watch, by the way).
I'll go wherever you want to post your videos. Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

But also please consider about trying to grow this one, I really think is possible but from what I've seen the CZcams algorithm wants consistency

I subbed after the Hat Films colab brought me here. A more frequent and consistent release schedule would go a long way, even if it's just twice a month. I love the channel, but I haven't recommended it to any of my friends because I was never sure if the channel was dead or not. If you just keep doing this for fun, it will show through, and people will find and love your channel. You have unique and interesting content, and I hope you will continue to make videos regardless of viewer numbers.
As a British Columbian radio controlled helicopter pilot and full scale aficionado, I just appreciate and enjoy your content. I am glad you are considering more uploading in whatever form. I’ve always enjoyed your channel and I think I was probably one of those subs after the Casey collab. Your videos may have technically been repetitive, but they were the content I signed up to see. Helicopter rides, Bentley, interesting people, amazing locations. I always got my money’s worth haha. I think you should start a new channel, leave this one to link to the new one and keep doing you. I have got here after colab with Peter, being a bit of a photog my self, i rewatched most of your vids about 3 times during your absence, why?
Rare, authentic, next level outdoor and the most amazing scenery, thats why :)
In other words: amazing scenery, badass tight landings, doing modern outdoor stuff like hauling bikes and snowmobiles and hockey players and that Gal Figure skater (forgot the name) up to some amazing places to enjoy...
I wonder whether the challenge is the mix of content you have. Personally I loved the videos in the past where you talked through the details and challenges of the things you were doing as it made the "money shots" all the more impressive. For me as well, just the story and interactions with the people you fly with add interest for me.
I'll be honest that I haven't watched many of your last few videos but I don't remember skipping them either. Looking at them now, I think I would have been put off by the length and sometimes the frequency.
One of the bits of advice you hear is about keeping a regular schedule. Certainly for me, don't ever subscribe to a new channel without looking at their recent videos to get a feel for whether what I've just seen is indicative. When I'm looking at that, I'm looking for consistent(ish) length and regular uploads. The thought process is something like "If I see this length of video every day/week/month, am I going to watch it".
I don't know if that is helpful because I can imagine how hard having consistent content is but hopefully some honest input is good to read.

I started following this channel after Casey and you collaborated. I saw you featured on Daily dose of internet and thought that would bring you tens of thousands of new followers so I think something is broken with the CZcams algorithm, most likely has to do with the inactivity up until a couple weeks ago.
Love the content and always have. Wouldn’t hurt to start fresh and possibly a good idea to go to a new platform. Just make sure you let us know. Support 100%!
Please keep this channel going. But maybe start a new one to see which one does better. Love your videos keep them coming. Never seen anyone make videos like yours.
Why would you want to delete all this amazing stuff? I am re-watching lots of your awesome videos every now and then. It would be devastating if this would be lost... If you really want a new one, leave this one alive. Please don't delete it.

Hello from a wet, home-bound Belfast. You have some amazing content on this channel. The rescue video, in particular, stands out to me as a really interesting, and humbly told, story, with amazing lessons. I've recommended it to plenty of people as an illustration of how events can overtake the most prepared, sane & experienced people. Don't let that content be lost. And if you do change channel, I'd hate to lose that if I didn't catch the switch.
That said, I'd love to see a more diverse channel with your video style and take on life. Variety's the spice of life!

I learned about you from the PM vlog but have stayed as you're not only a local flyer (CYXX boy here) but you're also an active Redditor that I enjoy watching. If you decide to change I'd say leave this channel here and make it an archive or something like that as you do have some pretty cool videos on the channel that would go to waste if you delete them (nothing saying you can't just upload them again though :O ). Either way, all the best and look forward to what comes!

I'm a subscriber to you and many other youtubers. I've saw videos of some of the more sucessful ones that say the algorithm works best when you upload often or daily even if its just a short video.
Please do not delete the channel, regardless of your final decision. It would be a shame to loose all this wonderful footage including this video itself.
P.S. I am here since Smartrer Every Day colab and perhaps this fact is a small testament that can be used to influence You-Tube executives. After all, I believe that is how most channels grow these days. There is too much content out there to come across randomly, be that good or bad content. So me must rely on recomendations by the creators we trust.

To be honest with you brad. I love the stuff you put out. Deleting this channel isn’t the way to go. I would bring up points of the linked videos already posted to platforms but someone else has already brought it up. Keep this channel and make a new one if your heart desires but I wanna see more content. If you need a video editor and a camera man try looking around for one. Constant uploads would help grow the channel. you’ve always been here and there with uploads. I think someone handling all that would solve some of your problems and take some stress off you. I have camera equipment out the butt and I’d even step in to help if you needed it. The arial views with Bentley and the occasional super star, model actress combined with your quirky personality is what kept me coming back for more. Dude for real from the bottom of my heart bro keep going because seeing your videos is like seeing a little gold nugget shining at the bottom of a river bed that I can’t wait to pick up and stare at. If you make a new channel I’ll be one of the first subs. Bell icon is clicked and the notes are on just let me know what the new channel is called. Peter McKinnon and I talked about him coming back. He was bugging me to get going with my channel again. I explained it, he said 100% it's being throttled. He is the one that suggested I delete and restart.
@@bradleyfriesen Wow. Any idea why CZcams might be doing that (throttling) your channel? That's crazy if they do that. I haven't heard of that before. You have amazing content, I would expect more subs.

I believe you're looking at this the wrong way. Casey's fans aren't necessarily fans of aviation. That's like a hip hop artist inviting classical music lovers to a rap concert. I want to see helicopters, beautiful sceneries, and Bentley the copilot. 😁
I don't think I am. I actually think you're missing my point. It was proven, that working with other big creators drove massive subscriptions to my page. First one, doubled. Hard to do. Second one, almost tripled. Very hard to do. Then doubled again.... Then never gained another single subscriber again despite working with massive channels.
This isn't about my engagement or watch time. This isn't about natural growth through consistant uploading. Not at all. It's not possible that human nature to subscribe from channels they engage with currently suddenly reversed itself. More likely, the channel was flagged. It was proven repeatedly then suddenly stopped.

@@bradleyfriesen I always like to suggest thinking through correlation and causation. I'm wondering if you've considered the timing of the pause in growth? When you "never gained another single subscriber", did something else change/adjust in the YT universe? Did your pause in growth just correlate with something on YT side and wasn't a reflection on your content, collabs, etc? I'm not pretending to know anything about YT or algorithms, I'm just a fan of yours. I'm one of those that came over from the Casey collab. I recognized your talent combined with your unique place in this world. Quick access via helicopter to gorgeous views, combined with great video instincts. However, all that said, I wish you the best and hope you find what brings you joy. If that's sharing more of your and Bentley's world, then that would be great!!
Heya, been watching your vids for years now. I’ve checked your sub count a couple of times during that period and noticed it stagnate aswell. Maybe put a subcount/time chart in the vid where you explain this in detail, with some dots showing collabs/popular vids to make your point come across.
Completely agree with starting a new channel if youtube wont offer a solution. Your comunnity will stay with you regardless.
I think the last video that came up as suggested on my feed of your was the Hat Films collab, but I think that was simply because I also follow them. Honestly I think after that at least for my feed, your channel was kinda swept under the doormat. I didn't even realise how much content you've been putting out since then, and I can only blame either myself for not actively looking for your videos, or youtube for pushing your content to the bottom of the things it recommends for me to watch. I guess ringing that bell is pretty important, not that I've done that for any channel I sub to, but it might be an important piece of the puzzle for trying to keep that steady supply of subs and interest.
I think you should setup a Patreon like Flight Chops has, I just love your content flying around West Canada, also loved seeing Bentley grow up, miss your videos though, I always check for new ones and rewatch the previous content you've created
