This team too was the most fun to watch, when they got back Rickey Henderson they were invincible. RIP Bob Welch, Dave Henderson, Tony Phillips, Roy Steele, especially the man that made this possible, Walter Haas

@@ericvogt3313 they were totally out of their league. This was no contest. The fact that they were swept doesn't even describe how they were dominated in this series.. they had NO CHANCE

I was 9 years old during this time. I remember the earthquake. I remember the buzz around the bay area. This was the best Oakland A's team. Still a die-hard A's fan to this day. What great memories. And yes Canseco is still my favorite baseball player of all-time. #Oaktown4life

Was 10 years old in October 1989. Saw the A's complete the sweep at my dad's apartment. The most excited he ever got over a non-family moment. Gave me my first small sip of champagne. Haven't had any sense...always felt it was reserved for World Series championships. When Oakland wins again, I'm getting some '06 Cristal and I'm gonna pour some out for my late father. Who will then come out of his grave and slap me for spilling some $500 champagne :) Thanks for posting this John. Means a lot.

I was at this game and it was so awesome to watch those guys walk across the field. The A's won the 1989 World Series on my 6th birthday, October 28th, 1989. I was meant to be a fan :)

This team was so well balanced in every phase of the game. One stat that really jumps out at you is the bullpen season ERA of 2.48 to go along with 57 saves. Eckersley 1.56 33 saves, Honeycutt 2.35 12 saves, Burns 2.24 8 saves, Nelson 3.26 3 saves, Corsi 1.88. The bullpen was so good they were able to package relievers Greg Cadaret & Eric Plunk in a trade to get Rickey Henderson back on June 21, 1989.

say what you will about this time in baseball but I sure loved baseball then...this brings back some great memories. I loved the A's then.

Ian Woodbury I choose to look at the positives. Some will choose to think of baseball from 1985-2005 as the Steroid Era, I look at it as exciting baseball. Unless the teams that won World Series before Jackie broke the color barrier, want to give back their championships or put an * on them, we will do nothing to the steroid era champs

+TheEarthGerm yep Jose was very emotional the entire weekend during press conferences and interviews. I was at the game and would say he got the biggest ovation. Here's a vid of Jose being interviewed during the game czcams.com/video/3DA26nIJyDs/video.html

I loved watching that team. Canseco was the best of the bunch, steroids or not. He had Ruthian power. The only player I saw hit it farther was Dave Kingman and he was clean.

How the hell did this team get swept by the Reds the following year is still beyond me, probably always will be. If they lost in 6 or 7, it might take some time but I'll eventually be able to comprehend. But not getting swept in 4.
