Adding Raised Garden Beds to this 2 Tier Retaining Wall

Amazing job on the walls, they look MINT.... It amazes me how much detail you put into your jobs with just the two of you working for the most part, and it comes out looking like a full crew had done the job. Look forward to seeing the completed project.

Do you need to glue down every layer there boss ? Also at what heights do you need to worry about a drain tube in the back ?
You don't necessarily need to glue every layer but it is a cheap insurance policy in my opinion. It also helps prevent blocks from wobbling when they have a slight variance in height from each other. And for drainage pipes, I wouldn't say it is about height. It is more about soil types and possibility for substantial water infiltration. This project had very well draining sub soil and it is not very probable to take on much water. The previous timber walls had zero drainage stone and held up for 20+ years no problem. So with all the drainage stone used and the fact that water can weep through all the joints, a drainage pipe is not necessary and in my opinion, they always look ugly... So when I don't think they are necessary, I don't use them ✌

Looking great dudes. That Semma looks great. How does TechoBloc compare to VersaLok when building walls such as installation? I know VersaLok has the pins and TechoBloc has those square block anchors that sit on top of their blocks. TechBlocs is really expensive per block versus VersaLok in my area. My local dealer says TechoBloc is the "Cadillac" of the concrete block world lol. But they look awesome. One more quick question. What was that tool that looks like a garden hoe that you use called again? I remember you said it was gifted to you by a friend and the tool is from South America somewhere???
Thanks brother, Semma is my favorite wall block out there for sure. VersaLok is know to have much more variance in heights from block to block, causing some issues when installing. Plus they are all solid blocks, causing more efflorescence issues down the road. Nothing against them, I just don't really like them and they are actually tough to find in my area. And your dealer is correct about Techo Bloc. They are a very big name in concrete products and they deserve it.

Hey brother, big fan of you work! Been learning so much from this channel. So I’ve been looking to start some hardscape project but there’s no supplier with chip stone in my area. What would you recommend using in this situation?
Thanks man, glad to hear it! If you can't find the 1/4" chip stone, try looking for 3/8" clean crushed stone. If you can't find that, you can use round (pea stone). It will take a bit longer to screed but will work for sure. Worst case scenario, lay fabric over the base stone and use a nice clean mason sand for the bedding.

Thank you! There is no drainage pipe behind any of the wall. Most block walls I build don't require it in my opinion. With nice sandy sub soil and the and the amount of clean stone we use, the water will drain / weep out of the wall block joints no problem. I only put drainage pipes if there is a downspout to connect into or if there is potential for heavy water infiltration. I did not see the potential for that on this project as the timber walls that were there previously had zero drainage stone or pipe behind it and it held up great for 20+ years. Mainly because of the nice, well draining soil they have. I hope that makes sense ✌
