    Nice. I would love to see this applied to the WRX and STI.
    On a side note. The s13 KA transmission and I think the AE 86 used that same TOB design too. Nissan doesn't sell the closed face bearing anymore, which doesn't make sense as I can still buy it by the trade bearing name. If you ask Nissan, they recommend the TOB used for the SR on the KA now. A little thicker but still works. Aftermarket clutch kits do the same. This swap confuses people who do clutch jobs when they see the old closed face bearing and the thicker open face ones that comes with the kits
    My original closed face bearing had 235k before the clutch disc failed. I used open face one in the clutch job. Time will tell how long it lasts. I actually did buy the original closed bearing made by Nachi but wasn't sure if it would work with the Exedy clutch kit i had. Exedy was no help.

    • @CMAutohaus
      @CMAutohaus  Před rokem +3

      Check the application list in the description, this kit should fit many Impreza/WRX. STi use a pull style TOB that historically has not has issues.
      Ive done a few S-chassis clutches at the shop. The "open face" TOBs still have a rubber seal at the open part. The factory FRS TOB is completely open to the worlds filth

    Can you make a video on removing the transmission/doing a clutch service on these cars? I've often wondered why transmission bell housings don't have a service window with a Zerk fitting for adding grease to a throwout bearing sleeve reservoir. Would go a long way to increasing service life. Or just have a beefier bearing.

    So my 2023 gr86 has been making the same sound as when you spun the "not so bad" OEM bearing since Day 1 with just 5 miles. It always happens at the end of the friction zone when releasing the clutch and sometimes faintly sitting at idle in neutral, no sound at full clutch in. It's quite annoying and worrisome, would this TOB kit get rid of that noise? Thanks!

  • @CptFUNK1

    • @CptFUNK1
      @CptFUNK1 Před 5 měsíci

      For any of those wondering... I did some research, and Subaru released a service bulletin suggesting the use of alternative greases instead of the copper/graphite anti-seize that came standard on some cars. The grease in the video that he shows is superior spec-wise to all of the greases specified in the bulletin.

    @MoneyMunday Před 8 měsíci +1

    Hey is there really no solution to using this with an ACT clutch? The product page says even OEM TOB's are affected by ACT clutches, so how could ACT really sell these if they don't work properly? I'd really like to use this with the Verus fork and pivot combo alongside an ACT SB7-HDSS clutch.

    • @CMAutohaus
      @CMAutohaus  Před 8 měsíci

      ACT and Southbend clutches have been notorious for engagement issues with the symptom being intermittently getting blocked out of 1st or Rev gear.
      I recently had to send back an ACT clutch on a VA STi that was defective out of the box, which means I had to pull the transmission TWICE and eat the lost labor time, and that a 1 day job turned into 1 week job and an upset customer.
      I used to highly recommend ACT clutches, but until they get their quality control together, Im sticking with Exedy

    • @Denverian
      @Denverian Před 2 měsíci

      squeaky noise when cold/dry. Mine started making the noise two winters ago during first 5 min warm up. It was rather persistent last winter and finally gave up a few weeks ago at 86k miles. Ocassional burning smell after a harsh take off could be a sign as well. When it went out the clutch became super light and it didn't want to get into the gear, as well as engaging clutch was very rough/hard without stalling the car. After getting a new clutch/flywheel/bearings the shifting became too easy and far superior compared to before. Not sure if trans fluid flushing did the magic or new clutch kit, but I'm loving it! Had I known this much imorovement, I'd already done it 20k miles ago when I bought the clutct kit.

    Thats a cool design. But you have to keep in mind your customers are people that do their own work in their own garage, that being said most people dont have a press on hand. You should just press them onto the carrier before shipping them to the customers. That also will cut down on how many returns you get by customers damaging theirs trying to press theirs on in their garages.
