- In this video, I'll show you a complete guide on how to install & Run Ubuntu 24.04 on Windows 11 With GUI Using WSL. We will start enabling WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux) and show you how to download and install Ubuntu 24.04.
Additionally, I'll also show you how to natively run Linux GUI Apps alongside windows 11. At the end of this video, you will be able to unlock the potential of WSL, that enables you to run a full ubuntu desktop and access through XRDP. This indeed improves the seamless desktop experience.

This was really helpful to see the pros and cons of wsl. I wasn´t aware that gnome is not working properly with that, so I can stop bothering tinkering with it right away.

@@kskroyaltech I tried the virtual box method. I am only using ubuntu to compile mud drivers, I dont think virtual box is what I need. Wsl is going to do just fine. Thanks for this reply.

Yes you can. But XFCE works better than standard Version.

If install handbrake inside wslg, will it be able to use the host HW Acceleration features like intel quicksync?
I am not sure about intel Quick Sync, but it can use GPU..
Can the Desktop GUI access internet? I accessed the GUI before. Hoping to be able to use an Internet Browser. It didn't work.

After turning on the feature, it tells to reboot. But when the reboot is done, the feature are disabled again. This is causing the WSL to malfunction. What should I do?

Once you enable WSL and reboot .. Why its getting disabled ?!
When i put in a username just says the parameter is incorrect. No matter what I do lower or uppercase.
the password has to be in lowercase and 6+ characters.
@kskroyaltech it was if you want sometime we could maybe go over it on discord or something. Because something is either missing or needed and that's why I am getting a error.
I am a developer and I will be setting up PHP environment by installing php, vagrant, phpstorm, vscode, etc in Ubuntu 24.04 On Windows 11 Using WSL and accessing everything inside XFCE Desktop ENV via remote desktop connection.
1) Can there be any issues like laggy or slow or not running inside xfce desktop env?
2) Can I easily browse via chrome, watch youtube, doing meetings inside xfce desktop env?
Its wont be buggy. Give a try. WSLg is much improved now, GUI programs run like a charm.

1. Some of the OOTB apps are not running like browser etc
2. The CZcams videos are a bit laggy and the sound is not coming through.

Why Xrdp is not redirecting me to the ubuntu desktop? My Credentials are right. After clicking on the button it is showing only background colors. Nothing else
make sure you have entering the valid port number 3389 or 3390
@@kskroyaltech I am sure I am using these port numbers. I tried both. But a blank window is coming every time. Also, whenever I was installing xrdp and others by command, I was not getting the prompt window for gdm3 or lightdgm. I tried in two of my computers.

You can use CasaOS and access it from Browser.

@@kskroyaltech I mean you didn't install ubuntu GUI :P I asked someone about this method to have GUI and they sad that this windows CLI is not intent to have GUI in windows subsystem for linux? Maybe bacause of that it's complicated to install it? I tried another video and in the end it was not installed so I give up and installed regular linux with hyper-v.

You do not want to dual boot Linux with windows. They need two separate boot partitions and hard drives. Do not do it any other way. Do not use windows version of Linux. Big Mistake!
Dual boot is best. This is for those who are running windows 11 and wanted to have an access to Bash Environment and Linux commands.

@@binnichtaktiv_ Dual boot generally means using the same boot partition for both OSes. That's in general a bad idea. When windows does a major update you will not be able to boot back into Linux until you fix it. My main point was to use two separate boot partitions. If you can do that on one HDD, then you're good to go. I personally don't like to mix win and Lin on the same drive even if it can be done now days.
But wsl runs on hyper v?
I will agree apps don't run as well as native but ask works fine
