Lyrics below:
'Cause I know that time has numbered my days
And I'll go along with everything you say
But I'll ride home laughing, look at me now
The walls of my town, they come crumbling down
And my ears hear the call of my unborn sons
And I know their choices colour all I've done
But I'll explain it all to the watchman's son
I ain't ever lived a year better spent in love
'Cause I'll know my weakness, know my voice
And I'll believe in grace and choice
And I know perhaps my heart is farce
But I'll be born without a mask
Like the city that nurtured my greed and my pride
I stretched my arms into the sky
I cry Babel! Babel! Look at me now
Then the walls of my town, they come crumbling down
You ask where will we stand in the winds that will howl
As all we see will slip into the cloud
So come down from your mountain and stand where we've been
You know our breath is weak and our body thin
Press my nose up, to the glass around your heart
I should've known I was weaker from the start
You'll build your walls and I will play my bloody part
To tear, tear them down
Well I'm gonna tear, tear them down
'Cause I know my weakness, know my voice
And I'll believe in grace and choice
And I know perhaps my heart is farce
But I'll be born without a mask

The fact that they made it so huge in this era is amazing. They're an old town string band and they managed to make it impossible not to love their tunes. Marcus Mumford also has an uniquely amazing voice.
I was in the darkest chapter of my life when I first heard "the cave" and that song moved me so much it became my anthem as took back all I lost got clean and slowly rebuilt my life. Saw them in Chicago on the Gentleman of the road tour for my 6th year anniversary of being clean and it was the best show hands down ever.
I remember: December 2012 this song was brand new, my friend Emilio plays it at a juke box at a hole in the wall bar called JD's Saloon we used to shoot pool at and the whole bar was stomping our feet in unison with that kick drum. It was such a time.

Talking from experience, this is one of the most fun songs to play on guitar
definitely took 2008 - 2013 for granted... Only now compared to today's shit do I realise how diverse mainstream music was at the time
I really don`t care what anyone says but i think this is one of the best songs ever, simply amazing
Still listening 8 years later?
Literally approaching perfection😃
I love their passion as they play the instruments.
🖤
Still here 2021
I think this is the band with the most substance when it comes to music. Actual talent, genius. So so underrated and yet still popular. Cant wait to see them live !
There should be an award for reviving music, and they should be the first recipients.
Nearly a decade has passed since this song released but it’s still relevant today. This kind of songwriting is timeless.
This track never fails to bring the house down
Or the wall 🤷🏻♂️
One of the best bands ever. Their music, instruments, lyrics, everything.
I love the passion he uses to sing.
Love this song, absolutely.
i just love the energy in this voice. a blast to hear
I freaking love it when he goes "woo!" It cracks me up, they make songs about serious subjects and then just a little "woo!" Ik its dumb but it makes me happy
These guys are absolutely underrated
I absolutely love the religious+historical undertones and feel to this song. It makes me want to change my life for the better, admit all my mistakes and love my friends and family harder than ever. I want to wander the fields and the forests near me and find something new.

I know the time has numbered my days,
And I'll go along with everything you say
But I'll ride home laughing, look at me now,
For the walls of my tower they come crumbling down
And my ears hear the call of my unborn sons,
And I know the choices color all I've done
But I'll explain it all to the watchman's son,
I ain't ever lived a year better spent in love
'Cause I know my weakness, know my voice
And I'll believe in grace and choice
And I know perhaps my heart is fast
But I'll be born without a mask
Like the city that nurtured my greed and my pride,
I stretched my arms into the sky
I cry Babel, Babel, look at me now
For the walls of my tower they come crumbling down
You ask where will we stand in the winds that will howl

my heart is farce.. hes saying his intentions may not be pure even he thinks they are
Homie got a lot of this wrong
Saw this band /live in Bury st Edmunds, 2012, with my husband, and not only were there absolutely brilliant musicians, they can sing too ! They also had alot of empathy for their fans too ! Due to the fact that alot of people were not as fortunate as my husband and I were, to be given VIP Tickets, the band decided, that there were equivallent people waiting outside the theatre as there was inside the theatre watching them, So they went outside after the "Gig" and played live 4 songs to the people waiting in the cold, ! How many Bands would do that for their followers ? mmmm
i can think of only one (hint its them)
More artists and bands than you might realise would do that sort of thing. Not to take anything away from M&S for doing that (it's mighty awesome) ... but they're definitely not alone with that kind of appreciation for their fans. Just off the top of my head I can think of both Prince and Eddie Vedder playing regularly for free at schools for the disabled, and I know Tori Amos usually shows up sometime (outside the venue, for free) during the day before a nighttime show to meet fans and sign their stuff (plus she takes requests for songs to cover during her encores in her own special style) ... and those are just the examples I can think of. Variosu artists over the years have thrown together some kind of free (or nearly free) show to play for fans after festivals got rained out too.
Oooo - how the hell did I forget all those sets Johnny Cash played at prisons too ... as have a pretty long line of well-known blues artists over the years :)
Very few would. They are, indeed, exceptional
Seen them live at Phoenix park in Dublin.. best concert I've ever been to.. the even done a cover of galway girl.. it's on CZcams check it out. Pure class band.
Going for 1 billion let's go this so deserved
How come this song and this band isn't THAT famous? They're one of the best.
All I want for Christmas is the existence of more bands like this one, they're magnificent 🙏
And this my friend, is what we call Mumford and Sons ... ❤️
and if I feel melancholic.. i listen to them, and if I feel great.. I listen to them. this is the good thing!
Damn it's been too long since I have listened to these gentlemen. They're some of the best talent the world has to offer now. Bravo Mumford and Sons. Please keep on writing your own material and proving that this world still has something beautiful left to offer.
Same here
The world needs this band back
Im not kiddin', this song so fuckin' GENIOUS.. Can't stop to hear this..
I love all genres of rap but seriously give these guys a ton of credit because they are the ones who have the talent to ACTUALLY PLAY THEIR OWN INSTRUMENTS
So this is what i love about Mumford & Sons:
1. I got chills everytime i heard their songs
2. I love how the lead singer never stands in front so he can shines and take all of the glory, but instead he stands beside them and sometimes he let them to stand in front of him (can everyonr understand? my english suck. lol)
ye
+Reiko Misaki lol ya
Reiko your English is perfect and yeah.....
+Suq Madiq thanks~~
+Mike Phillips yayyy!~
Cause I know my weakness, know my voice,
And I'll believe in grace and choice
I'm into heavy metal, grunge, thrash and alternative rock as well as blues and country. Mumford encapsulate all genres brilliantly. Great singer too.
Mood
Also a fan of metal and alternative rock, also like folktronica, house, folk and country
Great comment. Couldn't agree more!
Well I'm gonna tear, tear them down
'Cause I know my weakness, know my voice
And I'll believe in grace and choice
And I know perhaps my heart is farce
But I'll be born without a mask!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The 4/6 feel is crazy. The first time I heard this I was alright another 4/4 song with a triplet on the fourth beat. But the more I listened to it, I realized it was in 6/8. Love it!
Mumford and sons are just awesome great music that just gets you in the mood every time you hear them
Mumford & Sons is just how I roll..
These guys are the best thing to happen to the music world...
ummm ... don't think so. They really are awful
@@yahs808 and yet you're here
@@yahs808 shut the hell up bro
the way he carries the guitar in the end is so badass
So many instruments , so many WINS!
Who could thumbs down this?!?!
This song has honestly changed my life and I feel that this is the best Mumford and Sons song ever.
Coming back to listen after hearing them & falling in love with their music 8 years ago and for some reason I stopped listening.. Still SENSATIONAL, like the first time hearing the songs again ❤
Mumford & Sons is one of my absolute favorite bands:)! They have so much passion and speak the truth of our hearts that we are too afraid to say.
The banjo is an under rated instrument
The songs you can make with them...
And Winston is an underrated banjoist
100%
U rite
Patrick Townsend Oh my goodness yes!
great song! from Florence, Italy
So powerful. I had only heard a couple songs by them, but I decided to listen to more of their songs... I am NOT disappointed. They are beautiful
Wish I was in their concert right now. Can't stop tapping my feet, nor nodding my head while listening this...Can't stop the feeelin' !!!!
Never stop saying you are a inspiration to me you brought me out of my darkest days thank you

Never left
Hereee
He plays the living he'll put of that banjo. Great song
I have spent the past hour trying to find this band and this album happy I was finally able to remember them, brings back my teenage years
"I stretch my arms into the sky"
This song is what keeps me sane.
They look like they're having a blast whilst they're making this video. I also saw the video for "I Will Wait", when they were at Red Rocks, and they were getting into it there, too. That's why their live shows are so electric. When they're enjoying it so much, you can't help but join in the fun.
Oh, and in regards to the "hipster" comments; I'm not a hipster, and neither is my dad (heck, he was a "greaser" when he was a teen), and we're both Mumford and Sons fans. He actually made a remark that they sounded like the Everley Brothers and called them the "Mumford Brothers".
Mumford and sons are awesome!!! Such talent!!
One of the greatest bands, and one of the greatest songs.
real music
Marcus strums so damn aggressively. Its great.
My mom played one of these guys songs and they’re now my new favorite band
This is littarly the best music to listen with family and playing cards at home
didn't realise how much power a song could have until now.
People that hate on this band I truly feel sorry for you. These four are modern musical geniuses and I will forever be a fan of their music. Looking forward to their next album!!!!!! Keep jamming Mumford and Sons!!!!
SO MANY DRUNKEN NIGHTS PARTYING AND LISTENING 2 THIS
I miss their banjo! This song will always be one of my favourites for the banjo!
My little brother, my bf(also his cuz), my mum, my dad and I all love your music
Man I miss these guys 😭
I am so addicted to M&S's! This is insane, unreal! Love it!
00:43 "There goes my string"
Good catch man!
wow i didnt see that until i played the video again
Did Marcus say that?
@@tabithaclapton6958nope
One of the best songs and coolest videos by arguably the best band in Britain in 20 years! Mr Mumford, I don't think you realize how important you are! ☺

Kenny Douglass
i should have known...
Yeah, that made me feel somethig
Man, this album was my childhood. I remember my parents hooking up their ipod to the car as i look out the window, into the horizon of corn.
you just can't beat this
So underrated!
" Press my nose up, to the glass around your heart
I should've known I was weaker from the start,
You'll build your walls and I will play my bloody part
To tear, tear them down,
Well I'm gonna tear, tear them down "
:) Great line
Yessssss!..Music is alive and well AGAIN!!
I always get that "YES!" feeling at around :45 when Marcus jams on his guitar so hard that he pops a string on camera. So much passion.
I can't wait to see them tonight!!!!
This has to be one of their best songs.
Zarah Geniva Never. Is horrible.
One of them, just go through sigh no more
real music just some guys and their instruments and voices what more could you want its how music should be humanities greatest invention!
too bad music is subjective and many people will disagree
+Maxwell Dendter Amen.
Maxwell what a pointless comment lol
I have 3 albums, I can load all 3 and put it on repeat and enjoy, and try to sing
Legend has it that if you listen hard enough, you can still hear the music being played in the building.❤
Press my nose up, to the glass around your heart
I should've known I was weaker from the start,
You'll build your walls and I will play my bloody part
To tear, tear them down,
Well I'm gonna tear, tear them down
I love this song so much.
It always makes my bones vibrate.
It's so visceral!
Wha tyou have to appreciate is how many times they played that to get allthsoe different scenes, and put the same energy and emotion into each time for it to blend properly, credit to M&S for that but also credit to the production team who put it together
I played (and sang this) to my husband after his liver transplant, and as he lay dying. It hurts still, but I listen when I need to cry it out now.
one of the greatest bands ever....
Wow ! This is music, I thought we've stopped few years back, so reliving
This band is just too good
Defiantly the best song these guys have
most influential artists of 2013
David Farrell and of all time it's 2018 now and they still inspire me
Beautiful as always
Happy 6 year anniversary, Babel!!
Saw them live back in 2013. One of my first concerts, they put on such an epic show!!!
love the way this song just takes off, and then falls again...only to fly again!!!
These guys jam super hard. I love to listen to their music while trying to come up with design concepts.
The banjo is a well known, beloved instrument
This song got me on Mumford and sons.
THIS IS MUSIC!!!!!!!
No, this is Patrick.
Jaime Durban and the other three;)
These guys love their music, it is a nice thing to see
This is definitely one of my favorites from Mumford and Sons.
