You are bringing back so many memories of helping my Daddy rebuilding and repairing things. Packing bearings was one of my favorite things to do. I still remember the way to do it. Thank you for sharing this.
P. S. Very nice job with editing the music to match the impacts lol.
Truly, I enjoyed this video, Tyler, even as a woman!! You make such educational videos that anybody can learn from, and if they don’t understand everything from watching your videos, they certainly can contact you to clarify something that they didn’t quite understand because your videos are so precise And made slowly. Some people rush through their videos so fast and they take the cameras off what they’re showing so quickly, but you don’t and I thank you for that.😊❣️
I used to watch my father in the shop, but it seemed like about the time I was handing him tools, or just enjoying watching him, I got called away to help my mom in the kitchen. I would’ve much rather have been helping my father. Like you, he was a calm, patient man, and while he didn’t necessarily talk about what he was doing, occasionally, he did explain it, and I could learn from what he was saying, but I could also learn a lot by observing. The difference is also, I didn’t know the names of things, like now I know what a HUB is. I wish now, I would’ve taken a mechanics course in high school. In fact, I think every girl should be required to take a mechanics course, and every guy should be required to take a combination cooking and sewing course so they know how to sew on a button and they know how to make a basic meal. Self survival of basic issues that can come up in our life.
Anyway, thank you so much for a great video Tyler. I am wondering do you by any chance play the music in the background of your videos?? I’ve been wanting to ask you that for quite a while.!! It truly is beautiful music, but especially today. I think you are after listening to this video, and hearing the pounding of the different parts of the hub mixed in with the playing as a guitar so that you’ve got the perfect timing of the “ drumming” sound from the engine components, mixed in with the guitar playing. It’s very well done, and very clever.❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️...just thinking it could be you
Keep on keeping on, Tyler !!
You are on a roll. Nice Job!
Just added a note to my future self in the box with an extra bearing set that I put on the shelf. "Use old race to help pound in new race." I had a larger disk (hub for a trailer) that would not fit into the tractor hub. By putting the old race in between, I was able to pound the new race down perfectly. I could hear when it bottomed out but used a wire "feeler" to make sure. Thanks for the video.
Thank you
Good job
enjoyed the guitar music in the video and the tractor content
Enjoyed the video brother. Blessings to you and your family.
☝️🙏🇺🇸💪🙌...
I could tell by the smile on your face, that any repair or upgrade you do is also an act of keeping your Grandfather near. God Bless
that is a super cool old tractor
Nice video
Sorry I’m late but I was the 1K like for this video. Your videos are entertaining and educational so I thank you sir. Take care and have a blessed week Tyler.
Well,,,,,!guys,l have been c 19, in rehab now, I did have my 85 th, birthday in the hospital, no CZcams to see you,Get that tracker going, love you guys
Awesome! Your grandpa would be proud!🚜
Thanks 😊
You got to love those old ford tractors they seem to never die and it's been paid for the last 60 years
Nice 👍 job on the tractor 🚜 but not the reminder of moving the wheels on the axle too change the spacing”will get over it 🤣
I used a 2 in ball in bottom of bucket welded in about 6 in. From the edge in the middle of the bucket . Cut the thread off of ball . Banged up. Then stuck a piece of heavy 4x4 tubing on the ball. Leaned the tubing that is a 4 inches taller than top of bucket back to touch top of bucket . Had 2 peices of flat 1/2x4x8 . Put on bucket and clamped 4x4 . Marked some holes . Then drilled 3/4 clearance holes through all . Then put 3/4bolt through all. Then put 4x4 with the flat bolted to it back on ball . Leaned it back in to postion and welded flat to top back side of bucket. Marked hay spear in tubing about a 3rd of the way up . Use torch to get correct level holes . Put in hay spear and weld taper in tubing. I will see if I can post some pics on Instagram for u . Forks on same bucket.
You changed up your music. Love your informative videos.
So happy to see the tractor working nicely for you.
Don’t forget that you’ll need some counter weight on the back. A 3-point ballast box or even a second bale spear so you can carry 2 bales.
I don’t know that his old tractor could even handle more than one at a time...I don’t know that it can even lift a single round bail.
Or just put on some weight . Why do you thing he butchered all the pigs :)
@@deplorablelibertarian you really have to, otherwise you can easily overload a spindly front axle like that
Totally agree, you need counterweight on back, either a piece of equipment or ballast box or another bale Speer. It will drive, stop and steer so much better
You guys are reading ahead haha! Yes a three point counter weight is the next project after the spear. Spoiler!
Completely off topic...but my name is Tyler to. Tyler gang 🤘
Your chipmunk voice is awesome! Also, did I hear a little bit of a new guitar picking clip? Great to see you having fun with your new project! 😎
Haha thank you! There is a couple newer guitar clips but no brand new ones in this video. And there sis one or two I haven’t used in a long time!
18:34 had me laughing with the timing strikes of the hammer with tempo of the music, nice
Followed by the shoulder shrug driving on the rd lol.
Also buy forged spears. We have tried machining nice points on axles and they never work like you want them to. On store bought spears they have a long taper and that is very important. They don’t tip the bales over spearing into them and the bales come off a whole lot easier!!
take a look on line at what tractor supply or other farm stores sell and base your design off of them!!!
Thats great bringing back grampas 8N, my old 9N still can do a days work.Thank you Henry Ford for your great engineering for the time.
The ending with the synchronized hammer strikes is very Indiana Jones-esque. We had a tractor on the last dairy I worked at that had a bale spear on the loader, and a bale spear on the 3-point. You could haul two round bales out to the field, and they would balance each other.
Thank you CMD! Yeah I’m definitely going to need a counterweight of some sort. I’ve got a few ideas in the works and this one of them
@@farmertylerranch4399 the counterweight I have for my New Holland is home built. I bought a 3-point drawbar, built a box around it, and filled it with concrete. Sure comes in handy! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!
Yaaaiiii. Fab!!!
Great Tyler!! Gramps would be proud of the change.
With that 3-point hook-up on the front you'll have to go with a 3-point hook-up spear. Not the strongest but it will get the job done. As far as ballast for the rear is concern; I would recommend tire ballast in the form of fluid or weights. You don't have to take the "ballast box" off and on all the time and it help balance the tractor with the loader. It's just my opinion.
made 4x5 bales for years, at 6ft 2in 300# I could horse them around when I had to, but go a load of 4x4 bales, and found that when I need to hand roll them for whatever reason much easier esp when a one man operation. I think you will find that is a better choice and seem to stack a little better, cause you are going to roll the occasional pineapple, lol
Comparing my gas 860 Ford to my dad’s 656D is like comparing a toy dog to a great dane. But that Toy Dog fires up ready to go, while that great dane waits to get warm.
Awesome work seems like it’s running almost in tip top shape for a hard days work Excellent!
You can lift with the three point hitch
It is wonderful too to have machinery that belonged to your family
Great job!
Very nice, it really runs smooth, great job
😂😂🙌that ending was GREAT!! So thrilled you got grandpa's tractor back and how it's gonna help you. Great job, FTR 🙌
Thank you!!
Man, you are a smart young man! Your Grandpa would be so proud.
You know so much great job. I'm not even into stuff like working on tractors but i like you and your videos. Watched the whole video!
Thank you!
Use 2 of the hardened spears . If you just use 1 it will break over time .
Use the old bearing race to install the new one instead of using a socket!
Talk to Wes Pandy At one lonely farmer on you tube about bail spears making his own really good bail spears .
You've done a really good job fixing up this old tractor. I'll say it again, your grandpa would be so proud!
Weld some foot pegs on the loader frame so you have something to push against so you can steer. The rear brakes won't help unless you pt a 600# counterweight on the three point. Upgrade your gym membership too
Tyler They are made by short line equipment companies You can buy one or get a picture . Look on a New Holland /Ford dealership .. There is lots in Canada probably made in Texas ?/
Nice little tractor ;)
Your videos are incredibly informative. Not sure I could do what you do but thank you.
We don’t use a bale spike for our hay bales. We use sliding pallet forks to haul hay bales. Can handle weight up to 4200 pounds, and forks can be moved to 42” wide. Fortunately, we have yet to break a fork (as I am knocking on wood)! Nice work on the wheel bearings Tyler. You were taught well!
Thank you!
Great job and explanation of the process. Yeah, the timing at the end was pretty amusing.
I've seen people that had two bars in the front for the bill loader and it looks like it made for a whole lot easier than just one enjoy your video glad you're getting all your grandpa's stuff back God bless you have a great week we sure have missed you
Missed me? Maybe your notifications aren’t working right? That does happen to some people but I haven’t missed any uploads lately. Thanks Sandra!
Cool, that was very interesting to watch. I enjoy your videos. Thanks
I made my bale spear with one centered and two 16 inch spears 16 inches spaced on each side of the center spear.
LOL..Loved your ending, made me laugh! Your doing such a great job..BRAVO .😎👍💪
Wish I was that handy. Looks great
Looks like you've made some good upgrades to the tractor. Can't wait to see how you built the hay spear.
Thank you Evan. Old equipment is cheap and has a lot of character but as you know takes a lot of work to bring it back to field ready condition!
Be careful lifting the big round bales with that. N series tractors we’re not meant to lift that much weight with a loader I have done it before but you will definitely wear out your front end quickly.
Agreed
Yes I know it’s a big ask for that tractor but I’m planning to roll 4x4 or maybe 4x5’s hopefully around 800 lbs or so, maybe up o 1000lbs.
Exactly it is going to kill that tractor
I would get a loader for my new holland. Much more hydraulic capacity and lift not to mention the tractor is alot beefier than a N series. The N series was never meant for heavy loader work other then doing scraping dirt or manure loading. Moving round bales will snap the front end it's not heavy enough to handle the speed and bouncing etc. You will have to go so slow. Its not worth getting hurt or loosing your life over.
Nice video! For the loader spike if it was me I would have a simple A frame with a center box spar and a socket welded in the middle. To be honest these day's we use duel spikes, so I would buy a second matching spike and two more sockets and put them on the lower box steel perpendicular to the center about 3ft or just under apart. That way you can pick up collapsing bales, two straw at once, if spaced right pallets as well.
I need to do the exact same thing to my Massey Ferguson 135. Replace all the steering ball joints and the wheel ball joints.
It made a huge difference!
I have 2 hay spear on each side
Love them old ford's. I'm jealous. Hows the jubilee running thanks for sharing.
It’s good but I’m pretty sure the head gasket is bad. As soon as I can I’ll bring it back in and change it. Probably just do rings and pistons and the whole 9 yards while it’s apart
Excellent job as always Tyler, they don't build tractors like that any longer. 😊👍👏
Tyler love your bringing Grandpa old tractor back to live. Tyler video, love seeing thinks of love in them these days. I’m sure you know it’s best to keep your round bale hay cover it till you put it out or you waste a whole lot.
My dad had one but it was on the back of his tractor for what that is worth lol enjoy your CZcams channel
Things are looking good. That tractor, she's quite mean looking. She looks broader and lower than I've seen before. Did it come out the factory like that. When you removed the bucket I thought WoW a bit of a beast. lol. All the best 👍👍🚜🚜🚜🚜
I think it’s standard but I agree it looks a little wider for some reason!
have you watched just a few acres farm he is redoing a farmall md and its kinda cool hope your having a safe time in all the crazy world hugsssssssss
Yes I’ve been watching that project. He’s going way more in depth than I plan to!
1- Pretty good percussion rhythm there at the end! 2- Good job on changing those bearings! 3- Nice haircut! Mine was as long and I was just letting it grow. But it is annoying on my neck and ears, so it’s time for it to go!
Thank you Craig! Yeah my hair was getting too long, actually was having to comb it! No more of that!
I have been using round bales for years. I have a four wheel drive, 50 horsepower tractor. My number one rule is that I never pick up a bale with my front end loader that I don’t have a bale on the back for counter balance. Lots of folks get killed each year in tractor accidents. You’re going to be pushing that tractor picking up round bales. Please be careful. You will have better luck using your New Holland with a bale spear on the back.
I would recommend on your hay spear that you do a double spear so you can use it like a set of palat forks, it has become very handy for me around the farm
Tyler best way to test the bearing put the wheel on but off the ground try moving it up and down if it dont move your done
A three-way spike take measurements of your Baylor first
The bale spear on my tractor is a rectangle built out of square tubing with two spears on the bottom, one spear will let the bale roll around too much when you pick up a bale . It used to have two smaller spikes on the upper part, but they kept getting bent making it harder to pull the loader out of the bale. With an open station tractor, you might want to make sure the frame comes up high enough to keep the bale from rolling backwards onto the driver when a bale is lifted higher off the ground.
I hope you packed those bearings a little more than just smearing grease on the outside of them.
Yes of course. I just didn’t think it made very compelling video!
consider the 'farmer' wedding ring the Welker Farms men wear, not metal. My auto repair guy was wearing his metal wedding ring when changing a battery and bad things happened.
Yes I know. I used to just not wear it but Mrs. FTR didn’t like that! I need one of those rubber ones
@@farmertylerranch4399 If I send you an amazon card will you make that happen, please. Again, my auto repair guy lost use of some of his fingers for a LONG time. That is the ONLY reason I recognized it on Millenial Farmer and Welker Farms guys.
I know I’m late to the party but definitely go with two long spears on the bottom. Space them out about 3ft apart. With the two long spears on the bottom you can spear and stack bales both laying horizontally and standing on end. Also you can carry bales around and then if you want to unroll them you cut the wrap off and spear it with a single spear and the bale will unroll as you back up! Put the spears on the bottom, I’ve seen them in the middle before and they are not as handy
You are 100% right! You are now 100% dependent on functioning, fueled equipment.
Theres also bail spears that go on the buket of the tractor
Wow, a threaded grease cap, who would've thunk it? Young man, I should show you how to pack those bearings passed down from the 50s when car bearings needed a lot more maintenance and changes. Great video
There are lots of spears you can actually attach directly to your bucket. I was going to do that on my 2010 JD. You can see a bunch of different ones on Ebay. If you don't want to put that money in to buy one, it may give you some ideas on building your own. Lots of luck to you.
Since you're building the bale spear, have you considered using a skid steer quick attach as part of your design? 👍
GREG JUDY BALE UNROLLER !!!!!!
It’ll enable you to move round bales with just a 4 wheeler and move carbon/nutrients back onto your pastures.
Yes but it won’t enable me to stack them in my barn. That being said I am planning to make one by next fall to feed out in the field for those exact reasons!
💖💖💖💖💖
Tyler you need a Facebook page. Can’t believe there’s 9 thumbs down 👎🏽 on this video 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
We have Instagram but no Facebook!
If you don’t have a socket that large, you can use the old race upside down to start the new race, and then finish installing it with a punch. 👍🏻
Does the ole tractor get a paint job when you are done with the mechanics of it? Nothing like a fresh coat of paint to finalize a restoration job😀
I don’t think so. Maybe one day? I’m going to work it so I’m not sure I want it too pretty or I’ll cringe every time it gets dirty!
Or have the one u have and have 2 little spear under the big spear
Great video...you’ll love feeding rounds. Sorry I don’t have any pictures of my spike. It’s jus a traditional Land Pride bale spike.
Maybe a grease zirk added to the wheel to keep the deteriorated axle steel dry and air tight
Your going to want to weld a couple foot long spears on the bottom rack to prevent the bale from spinning on the upper spear. Bc if you don’t there’s a chance the bale could break off the upper spear.
Never was a Ford man but they made some fantastic tractors that last Make sure the spear is long enough and I would think about a skid steer disconnect
I vote for a sideways H design or double square. Remember to figure in the amount of tilt you need. Look into ballast for the rear. I like the upside down T with a spear for the 3 point
Hello to Farmer Tyler Ranch and all others too!
Farmer Tyler....I believe you would do better using two bale spears on the front and a very heavy weight on the back of the tractor to use as a counterweight. If not, the weight of the bale will be top heavy. More spears equals a much better grasp of the huge round, heavy bale. And, also better traction. I thoroughly enjoyed this video !!!!! :)
Have you looked into putting a loader on the new holland?
Yes it would be really expensive but if the 8n won’t cut it I may revisit the idea
There is also bail spears for the three point hitch attachment but it can be hard to stack bails with one of those.
Ever try running a bead of weld around the inside of the race? When it cools, it will shrink the race and it will fall right out. Squatch253 just demo'ed it a few videos back. The 8N is really coming along nicely!
great tutorial!!! i cant stand gloves for mechanic work either.. slipperry cant feel!!
Why not use Gasoline to get the Grease off?
did you think of large Square Bales can stack them
Loved the end. How long did it take you to match the 🔨 with the 🎸?
Thank you! It didn’t take too long but longer than normal!
