Most of us down south lost things during Hurricane Katrina. This family gained something.... bees. This lady now has grand children living with her and she doesn't want to take any chances on them getting stung so she had us remove them (the bees, not the grand children). They now live at my house.
There is also a time lapse video of this entire removal. It can be seen here: • Katrina Bees Time Laps...

Regular honey bees and Africanized Bees are entirely different beasts. Regular ones are pretty chill and don't go into hive-defense mode. Africanized ones are much more aggressive and you should never get near them without a suit and lots of training.

I'm just amazed at how Bee Keeping is. When I was a little girl, there was a older gentleman that used to go to my Grandparents house. If he knew I was there, he'd bring me a jar of honey with a comb in it. And a beautiful Apple from one of his trees. I was sad when he passed on, I was really sad. But that Man made me fascinated with Bee Keeping. Where I live we aren't allowed to keep bees. But one day ... I hope I can.

@@arandomdude8584 Nothing unusual about that. Many amateur beekeepers do not wear any more protection than necessary for their particular bee strain and existing weather/flow conditions. I often work mine, during the May/June flow, without any sort of protection.
The professionals with thousands of hives do not have the luxury of slow and gentle handling or waiting for better weather conditions. They work to tight schedules so wear suits allowing them to pretty much ignore the bees and do the hive manipulations necessary to get their work done on time.

Every year, when I was young, my school would do that fundraiser where you send animal's to people in Africa. And every year I'd fight to send bees. I always lost to the people who wanted to send a cow. We'd raise enough to send maybe one cow, but the same amount could send several hives. My argument was always that sending a lot of bees did more good than sending one cow, cause you can eat and sell honey. And if you sent several hives, you're handing someone a business. Where as one cow could only feed a family for a while. I think I always lost because the bees were a lower cost and therefore seemed less prestigious. Every class wanted to be the one that raised enough to send a cow. I also think it was fueled by sentiment, a large mammal just seems more valuable, when to me sending as many bees as we could would do the most good for the most people. It still bugs me that I couldn't argue that point better. Ad that every year the perceived superiority of sending a cow won out.

Depends on where in africa you actually send said animal. Does the area have enough plantlife to sustain those hives? Same goes with a cow. Is there enough grass for the cow to eat? Oh well, i dont know, just a thought.

What this man shows is a calm heart calm mind an a slow steady hand. This is the basis of any good bee keeper. Dark colors tend to draw attention while lighter non highly brights tend to make them land an say hi. Bees are truly a wounder they can tell who is here to kill vs who is here to help. While i wish i had hives of my own i do work with a few bee an wasp types to try an help educate people i may end up making some videos on how to deal with wasps an how to make them your own personal guard dogs.

Sure, gloves can be worn. However, since they reduce your feeling capability, you are more likely to crush bees accidentally - thus causing the hive to become defensive. This in turn often means you now have to don a suit and veil. The full suit slows you down and makes working the bees more difficult.

+Justin Taylor +ItzCryrex The smoke actually tricks the bees into thinking there is a fire. Because of this, the bee's will try to eat as much honey as they can so they have food in case they have to move to a new home. A bee full of honey makes the bee very valuable and they become less likely to sting because, as we all know, when a bee stings it dies. Naturally the bee's don't want to die while carrying the food so they don't sting.

Absolutely love your channel. Just discovered it last night and have been binge watching all of your content. I'm personally terrified of bees, but it's absolutely fascinating to see a whole other side to something you can't normally see from a non-bee keeping perspective.
Thanks for contributing something worthwhile to CZcams. It's a welcomed change.
Also, just a side note, I'm more book smart than anything else, but even I can appreciate the amount of intelligence it takes to handle this sort of thing on the multi-faceted levels that obviously apply to safely and effectively performing this sort of job. Don't ever downplay your own intelligence or talents, and especially don't allow others to do so either. Your own far supersedes that of anyone who would dumb themselves down by criticize you for any reason.
Remember that, and keep the awesome content coming!!! ♡♡♡

I've always wanted to have beehives....just never had time. About 3 yrs ago I decided "let's do this".... I joined a local beekeepers group, went to meetings & a local keeper here was gonna help set me up at low cost...but, more I learned I figured my current life just wouldn't give me time to see after em...so I decided to wait...again... I'm facing retirement soon so perhaps then.. Your vid inspired me... NONE of those keepers would do what you do. . (no suit or gloves) you're the man! Safe travels... Subscribed

I worked with bees in San Diego, a huge honey producing area. Lots of lessons that you can learn keeping bees. It’s agriculture, which means it’s gambling! But we put up 600,000 lbs of honey (divide by twelve for the gallons) in 4 months. That’s a MELLOW hive! Maybe that’s why the homeowner put up with them so long. We only used smoke when we hit a hostile hive. This was just before the killer bees came in to the southwest. Beekeeping is an ancient and well respected vocation. There was honey found in 2,000 year old Egyptian tombs that was sealed in clay pots with wax. It was still edible, the enzymes that keep honey stable were still active. Maybe that’s why it’s prized for health benefits. But that’s totally raw honey. Enzymes are destroyed between 120 and 130 degrees Fahrenheit. I have many interesting stories about my beekeeping experiences!
