  • This tutorial will show you how to crochet an easy shell stitch cardigan / sweater. This cardigan is suitable for beginners.
    For size 0 - 6 months use a 3.5mm crochet hook
    For size 6 - 12 months use a 4mm crochet hook
    For size 1 - 2 years use a 4.5mm crochet hook
    For size 2 - 3 years use a 5mm crochet hook
    For size 3 - 4 years use a 5.5mm crochet hook
    For my cardigan I used a 4mm crochet hook and Drops Lima yarn (DK weight).

      @zahramoussavi6938 Před 3 lety +2

      Hi Carolyn, I haven’t done it but like you I’m going to make it for an 8 year old and based on my calculation of her size, I’m going to make 101 stitches to start then the pattern on the second row will be 14 double crochet (dc), 1 corner, 20 dc, 1 corner, 28 dc, 1 corner, 20 dc, 1 corner and again 14 dc; that adds up to 101 . And continue with what she says. You can size this first two rounds around one your daughter’s sweater and see if it is the right size; if not you can add or subtract with the same pattern. I haven’t tried it but I think that is how it should be done!

      @@vincelee256 I don't see why not but I don't know exactly how to do it either. I would have to sit at my desk and actually do the math to get the right stitch count since it would have to have stitches added in order to get the right fit. I just don't have the patience right now to sit and do it. I'm sure you too could do it same as I do if you give it a go. I taught myself how to do it. Heck I couldn't even read a written pattern or graft a year ago, still not very good at it at all but learning more all the time by watching tutorials on CZcams. I've been crocheting for over 40 years having been taught by my grandmother but honestly I don't remember her ever using a pattern so that must be why she didn't teach me that part of crocheting. She could make some really beautiful things too. Well, I sure hope you can get the answer to your question and if you do could you plz reply back here and tag me so I can hear what you did and how it turned out. God bless and HAPPY EASTER 🕊️🕯️💛🙏

      @bevf6750 Před 6 lety

      Sam Small I was unsure but having read through the comments somebody said she used about 250m of DK yarn for 3-4 year old size. I’ve just checked my DK yarn by Paintbox and the 100g ball is 276m of yarn so I’m hoping that a single 100g ball of U.K. DK yarn will be enough with about 10% left over. I hope so anyway because I’ve only got the one ball! Good luck with the project. I only taught myself to crochet a couple of weeks ago and this is my first big item of clothing. I have made a blanket, three toy octopuses and a child’s hat/bonnet so far. I wish I’d learnt years ago!

    I followed this precisely and I ended up with 133 stitches at the end of row 11, instead of 136. I even started from scratch, twice, and go the same. :-(

      i got 134... does it work if you figure out how to make your sleeves the same number of stitches? for example, if it is supposed to have 36 stitches per arm... make an extra 2 dc in however many stitches you need to in order to get 36 stitches on each arm?

      Yes I got 133 aswell which means you have a half shell on the edge of one front and a full shell on the other so it doesn't look right
