  • In this video, JOM of the Gravel Cyclist crew starts and ends a mixed-surface ride in the beautiful town of Madison, Georgia. Madison is located one hour (in favourable traffic) from downtown Atlanta. Ridden on a time crunch and wrapping up during the final minutes of the daylight hours, JOM's route is approximately 53 miles / 85kms in length. Due to its proximity to Atlanta, this route features a mix of 65% pavement, and 35% dirt / gravel / everything else. Route is linked below.
"Madison is a city in Morgan County, Georgia, United States. It is part of the Atlanta-Athens-Clarke-Sandy Springs Combined Statistical Area. The population was 3,979 at the 2010 census. The city is the county seat of Morgan County and the site of the Morgan County Courthouse." - Wikipedia.org
"The Historic District of Madison is one of the largest in the state. Many of the nearly 100 antebellum homes have been carefully restored. Bonar Hall is one of the first of the grand-style Federal homes built in Madison during the town's cotton-boom heyday from 1840 to 1860."
Downtown Madison, Georgia, is worth a look around, the beautiful courthouse is very worthy of a visit for a photo or two. The route passes through the communities / towns of Good Hope and Bostwick, Georgia.

I think I saw more cars in the intro than all your videos combined.

Indeed, not too pleased about it, hastily split from downtown. Admittedly, I was riding close to 5pm, so a bit busier than usual.

Hi David, Ravemen is the brand, the reviews are linked in the description below the video (linked to BikeRumor.com, where I have done some freelance work). I've reviewed two different models, both are excellent.

Impressive that you have a 40-hour a week job yet find time for travel route planning and rides. Plus testing bikes and other aftermarket equipment.

Thank you. I have no kids, and most of my spare time is devoted to GC, including bouts of sleep deprivation (not recommended). My regular gig provides a huge amount of vacation, that I carefully budget, along with excellent benefits. If all goes to plan, I'll be retiring in 5.5 years time!

@@GravelCyclist a good plan for future retirement. I'm a university professor with a few months off every year so I have a lot of flexibility to travel and ride. I still have my house there on the North side of Gainesville. Noted the Gainesville bike club is up to 800 members it was 500 members when I left in 2009.

Lara bars and Gu? LGC's weaning you off the gas station garbage.
Edit: spoke too soon. Hadn't reached 15:25.

This video was before LGC was riding with me :) I use Gu's and Lara Bars to this day, I just don't show them too often on camera. As for the Coke / other gas station garbage, that is still happening, haha.
